Be honest; if you’re a tall woman do you consider yourself superior to shorter women?

I know a few tall women who refer to shorter women as things like ‘short arses’ and I’ve seen the same thing said by taller women on the Style and Beauty boards here, too.

I’m 5ft 4, so am short myself, and have had derogatory comments made to me in the past by a few tall females. Yet I’d never dream of calling them an insulting name about being tall, or even really comment on their height at all.

I'm about 5'2 and I don't think I've ever had a derogatory comment from other women. I've been called a short arse by men but it's always been said in a good natured, affectionate way. I'm not saying you're lying but I'm surprised you've had these kind of comments because 5'4 is rather average for a woman.

CrickityCrickets · 08/08/2025 18:23

I do look down on shorter women.

pokewoman · 08/08/2025 18:23

Im 5ft 11 and absolutely not.

I instead have to put up with comments from everyone about being a giraffe/did i think about netball/all the usual tropes about being tall

NerrSnerr · 08/08/2025 18:23

I am 5ft1 and have never had a derogatory comment from another woman about my height. Ever. 5ft4 is average height anyway- not short at all.

CommissarySushi · 08/08/2025 18:24

Absolutely. I look down on them all day.

Newname42 · 08/08/2025 18:24

I always was very jealous of shorter women, I was taller than 70% of the boys at school and they all preferred the petite girls.

Crunchingleaf · 08/08/2025 18:26

5 foot 4 is fairly average for a woman so I am surprised people call you short or joke about your height.
I don’t think tall women care what height I am tbh.

This is true. It's been hard work finding a man, who wasn't put off by my height.

Ebenezerscrogge · 08/08/2025 18:27

Not an issue for me , 5ft4 is pretty average , I have had negative comments from
someone petite but only once - I got the impression she didn’t think it was feminine to be tall .. I just ignored it

😂😂😂

TaupeMember · 08/08/2025 18:28

Im 5.10 and have never had problems attracting men, quite the opposite!

Don't look down on short women either...

Goady post

DeirdreChambersWhatACoincidence · 08/08/2025 18:28

No of course not. I'm 5"10.

And yes it's been hard finding men who don't mind me being tall.

QuaverQuanta · 08/08/2025 18:29

No. I was over 6ft tall by the time I was 12 and I don't think I've ever come across a woman taller than me. I don't think I consider myself to be more superior than anyone, regardless of height.

The biggest issues I've had in workplaces have been from the shortest women though. I had to raise a grievance against one colleague who was 4ft 9. It was only me she had an issue with, and no one else had an issue with me, quite the opposite. It felt as though she was trying to assert some weird kind of dominance 🤨

And the constant asking you to get stuff off high shelves🙄

smallsilvercloud · 08/08/2025 18:30

I’ve always been envious when younger that shorter women can wear high heels and still look normal without being too tall, more men to choose from, I don’t personally like towering over men.

Nousernamesleftatall · 08/08/2025 18:31

Ridiculous. What would any woman look down on another woman because of their height? Being short, average or tall is not an achievement.

Meadowfinch · 08/08/2025 18:31

What an odd question. No I don't think that.

I'm 5'8" and spent my early teens feeling like a giraffe until some of my class mates caught up with me. I wanted to be petite.

I like my height now, but it took me a while.

SriouslyWhutNow · 08/08/2025 18:33

WTF?!

  1. 5 foot 4 is not short, it's within the bell curve of average.
  2. The only time I've heard the term shortarse was when someone said it about themselves.
  3. See also "longshanks" for taller people.
HTH. Bizarre thread.
Ebenezerscrogge · 08/08/2025 18:33

I always used to attract shorter men for some reason .. not really sure why as most tall ladies here don’t sound like they had that issue

Oatsamazing · 08/08/2025 18:33

I'm 5'11'', I would love to be petite or just average. It is nice being able to eat a bit more than the little people though Grin

tinytemper66 · 08/08/2025 18:33

Who cares? I love being less than 5 feet…

NebulouslyContemporaneous · 08/08/2025 18:33

My lovely sister-in-law, who is close to six foot, told me how distressing she found it when people made comments about her height. In fact, it contributed (I think) to her eating disorder, because she somehow experienced comments about height as comments about being 'too big',

So, no, I don't think that tall women in general feel superior to short women. There may be individual tall women who feel superior to shorter women, just as there may be individual short women who feel superior to taller women. But there is no systemic disadvantage to shorter women in this respect.

I'm bang-on average, at around 5 foot 5, so I can revel in my perfect ordinariness and look down (metaphorically) on those taller and shorter than me.Grin

Look at for peri that skill disappears x

Iheartmysmart · 08/08/2025 18:34

I barely scrape in at 5ft and one of my best friends is 5ft 11. I like going shopping with her as she looks fantastic in all the clothes that would look bloody awful on me. We don’t really think of each other’s height when we’re out together though - we’re just old friends.

TheOtherAgentJohnson · 08/08/2025 18:34

Gosh OP, you’re so demure, delicate and refined. What a pity all those galumphing mean girls can’t leave you alone. They’re just jealous.
