Be honest; if you’re a tall woman do you consider yourself superior to shorter women?

I know a few tall women who refer to shorter women as things like ‘short arses’ and I’ve seen the same thing said by taller women on the Style and Beauty boards here, too.

I’m 5ft 4, so am short myself, and have had derogatory comments made to me in the past by a few tall females. Yet I’d never dream of calling them an insulting name about being tall, or even really comment on their height at all.

Fuck no. What a weird question. Most people can't do anything to change their height either way, it's weird to care about other people's height tbh

It's people shorter than me that often make comments about my height. I was brought up that it's rude to comment on people's appearance but some people missed that memo.

Growing up and as a young woman I was always self -conscious of my height. It's taken years to accept myself.

K0OLA1D · 08/08/2025 18:37

I look down on most people actually. There aren't that many men out there taller than me either.

But no. I don't. I struggle getting things to fit me properly and I could never fit in any girlie shoes when I was little and I was jealous of all my friends that had them

JurassicPark4Eva · 08/08/2025 18:37

Are we going to have this drivel all night?

Alliana · 08/08/2025 18:38

The opposite really OP. I’m not even particularly tall (only 5’8 or so) but always felt a bit large and lumpen next to my daintier friends. Going to concerts when younger they’d be up on shoulders etc, but I always felt like I’d crush the poor guy to death, even though I wasn’t overweight or anything then (as I am now unfortunately), but just bigger.

cantpullthetrigger · 08/08/2025 18:38

Never heard of women judging women in this way.

The only thing I don’t quite get, as a reasonably tall women, is when I hear short women say they couldn’t possibly imagine dating a man less than 6’2”… 🤷‍♀️

Gosh OP, you’re so demure, delicate and refined. What a pity all those galumphing mean girls can’t leave you alone. They’re just jealous.

This.

JamesMacGill · 08/08/2025 18:39

5’4 is perfectly average and not short. Why do you think you’re short?

Snorlaxo · 08/08/2025 18:39

I don’t know what you mean by tall.
I am 5 foot 8 which is taller than average but I wouldn’t call tall. I’ve never had a comment about my height tbh
I suspect that tall women (say 6 foot) will have had more negative comments about height than short women (say 5 foot) because being tall is considered more “masculine” The irony obviously being that supermodels are tall and very feminine. Men will probably have experienced it in reverse where short men get negative comments.
I’d imagine that short women get “short arse” but
also comments about being cute and tiny which are comments that definitely don’t apply to me. I understand that cute is not necessarily a compliment but I imagine that the “tall” equivalent is even worse.

slightlydistrac · 08/08/2025 18:39

I'm nearly 5'8" and I would never in a million years denigrate anyone else on their difference in stature or any other element of their physical appearance.

If people are being unpleasant on MN threads, then you can report their posts. If you see remarks like that anywhere else, ignore them.

I think you’re the jealous one! I didn’t say anywhere that I was demure, refined or delicate.

take a look on some threads on Style and Beauty about getting clothes in longer length and you’ll see derogatory comments right there

I do look down on shorter women.

🤣🤣

Seawolves · 08/08/2025 18:41

I'm 5'8 and for years felt I was inferior to shorter women (because I was bullied at home and school about being tall and manly) so absolutely not.

WorriedRelative · 08/08/2025 18:41

No one thinks height makes them superior!

People may joke about height, but it is normally good natured and a two way street.

I've joked with a friend about how we need to sit on the bar stools to even up our height, and she jokes about speaking to my boobs because they are on eye level, or getting suffocated when we hug.

My sister (who refers to herself as a short arse) and I regularly make height jokes to each other (we're VERY different heights), but she also used to tease our Mum for being short despite being just an inch taller.

My husband calls me a short arse though, which is much better than boyfriends who haven't liked me wearing heels as they make me taller than them.

SunflowerTattoos · 08/08/2025 18:44

CommissarySushi · 08/08/2025 18:27

This is true. It's been hard work finding a man, who wasn't put off by my height.

Tall men always seem to pick petite women, my OH is shorter than me, I've never actually dated anyone taller.
No, I don't make comments about women who are shorter, but I often receive them. Often they use the word big, which I hate, I'm tall but not overweight. My DDs get this too... "Oh! you're a big girl" 😡

pokewoman · 08/08/2025 18:45

Devilsmommy · 08/08/2025 18:29

And the constant asking you to get stuff off high shelves🙄

Yep!

SnackAckerTack · 08/08/2025 18:52

Oh for goodness sake - most people (women/men) dont feel superior due to an accident of birth

Wadadli · 08/08/2025 18:53

CrickityCrickets · 08/08/2025 18:23

I do look down on shorter women.

But do you look up to taller women?

arcticpandas · 08/08/2025 18:53

I think it's worse for the tall women tbh. I'm 5'7 so really average so have no personal experience but I have a really tall friend and a really short friend and it's only the tall friend who's complaining because men find her height threatening wheras the petite gets a lot of attention...

itsmeits · 08/08/2025 18:55

I'm 5"2 sis is 5"8
She is the only one I've ever heard derogatory comments from - these are light hearted, I am guilty of doing it back.
As loves to call me her PLP public leaning post😂I will ask her what she weather's like up there.
I'm envious of some of the dresses she can wear that I can't pull off as I look like a super plum fairy 😳 and she looks like a princess 👑
@Iheartmysmart I know how you feel

DabOfPistachio · 08/08/2025 18:57

I'm very tall and no? Why would I? Odd question. I do sometimes feel uncomfortable about my own height because I feel huge next to short women but that's it, really.

I’m 5’4 too and everyone always calls me short even though it’s average. People also somehow always think my best mate and my sister are both taller than me… they’re barely 5ft and I can rest my chin on their heads.

Bizarre.

DabOfPistachio · 08/08/2025 19:00

I should add that I often get comments on how tall I am but I don't mind. Theyre never ill-natured. And I like being asked to get things off super market shelves! It's nice to be able to have the tallness good for something 🤣

5ft 7 is tall not average… it’s 4 inches above the worldwide average height

indoorplantqueen · 08/08/2025 19:01

I’m 5.2 and never had a derogatory comment about my height. My dh and teen dc joke that the teen is now taller than me lol
tbh I’d love to be a few inches taller, mainly so that I can wear a wider range of trousers.
