Be honest; if you’re a tall woman do you consider yourself superior to shorter women?

I know a few tall women who refer to shorter women as things like ‘short arses’ and I’ve seen the same thing said by taller women on the Style and Beauty boards here, too.

I’m 5ft 4, so am short myself, and have had derogatory comments made to me in the past by a few tall females. Yet I’d never dream of calling them an insulting name about being tall, or even really comment on their height at all.

I’m 5’2”, and many years ago I had a female friend who was 6’4”. Never a derogatory comment.

Also, I was stage manager for a show (as part of a tour) & we were doing the get in in Camden. My friend (and a recognisable actor at the time) has achondroplasia and is just under 4’ tall. I was 8 months pregnant at the time, but we were carrying a tall flat (bit of scenery) from the van, and a group drunk guys started calling us Mr Greedy & Mr Short!

Friend helped me put the flat down, ran over & gave them a bit of a telling off (very expletive laden), and one by one the guys walked across the road & apologised to me. To be fair, I just found it amusing.

DH is 6’2”, and is DD’s Dad, (DS’s dad is 5’10 and now adult son is 5’9). On scans we were told she had legs that were measuring 2 weeks longer than the rest of her. She’s 28 now and is… 4’11”!

Never a whiff of any grandiosity from my taller female friends nor have I felt superior to my shorter friends.

Ironically, my family are Dutch (known to be very tall) and none of us are over 5’10! We had a few children of our age who were the kids of my Grandma’s friends come over in the holidays when we were teens & they were much taller than us at the same age. We all just mooched around perfectly happily together doing what teens do, never a comment about height from memory, because it’s just not important!

GentleSheep · 08/08/2025 21:02

Absolutely not! At 5' 10.5" I always felt I stuck out like a sore thumb and felt very visible, which isn't great when you're shy. Plus all the physical awkwardness and bumping into things!

Kittybythelighthouse · 08/08/2025 21:02

I’m tall (ish) at 5ft 11. I have never in all my days heard a tall woman say anything like this about short women. And I come from a family of tall women. It’s not a thing in my experience. I don’t see that it would carry any real weight socially, because afaik society doesn’t disapprove of short women. Short women can be cute, dainty, delicate, and it’s seen as more feminine to be short.

Culturally it’s not easy being a tall woman. In my single days I’ve been called e.g a “tranny” by dickhead men that I didn’t want to snog/talk to. I was called Mummy Long Legs by some little bas*rds at school. There’s no superiority in my experience. Is 5ft 4 even particularly short? I definitely know shorter women and the only thought I’ve ever had about their height is that I wish I could wear those platforms/heels etc without looking like Herman f*king Munster going through a difficult phase 😭

Im 5ft 11 and absolutely not.

I instead have to put up with comments from everyone about being a giraffe/did i think about netball/all the usual tropes about being tall

Fellow 5ft 11er checking in. Solidarity ✊🏻

waaaaaah · 08/08/2025 21:06

@LaughingCat any stores in particular? I used to love going to Amsterdam and being able to find tall clothing easily! I’d love to try some new looks but the past few years just been in the same old LTS jeans and tees I’ve had for donkeys, because god forbid they ever change their tees range or styles 🙄

What?! Of course not!😂

Mistyglade · 08/08/2025 21:12

Nope, I’d hate to be tall I’m happy being 5.5, except at gigs and concerts of course.

Ashley911 · 08/08/2025 21:14

No I'm just glad I'm not short but I see that as 90 per cent of women

MounjaroBingo · 08/08/2025 21:14

Absolutely not. I envy the shortness…I have mainly petite friends (in height and stature) and I feel large and awkward next to them. Especially when we pose for group photos.

Im 5.10 my girls are 5.5 neither of them will grow any taller. Ive never judged anyone on height (i married a shorter man)

Im very self conscious - usually the tallest out of my friendship group, growing up i just always felt out of place with a group of friends :( if i could just be a couple of inches shorter to look like everyone else.

Now im older and fatter, dislike it as im now larger and tall.

RIPMTV · 08/08/2025 21:18

I’m 5’11. I’ve never commented on or even had any thoughts on other women’s heights?! I’ve never experienced any negativity from other women regarding my height, either.

This all seems rather…unusual.

Ashley911 · 08/08/2025 21:21

It's annying though finding clothes to fit. I actually tried using vpn and translate to find shops in north europe but it didn't really work

MrsTerryPratchett · 08/08/2025 21:22

Haven’t read the read but isn’t 5’ 4” slightly above average?

Ridiculous thread.

bungeejumper · 08/08/2025 20:32

haha! I am cackling at posts like this because as a tall woman with large boobs and legs that go on forever I have got whatever man I ever wanted. Like, literally, no man I've desired has ever said no to me. This isnt arrogance, it's just fact so sure, feel sorry for rme all you want. I'm sleeping with your partner btw 😂

You’re blessed with large breasts, of course you look feminine. I’ve got tiny tits. If I were tall instead of short/petite I would look less feminine. That’s why I’m glad I’m not tall. I don’t feel sorry for tall women, I never said that. Some of the most desirable women in the world are very tall.

21ZIGGY · 08/08/2025 21:43

Yes i think youd find it hard to get a truly tall woman ( say 5,10 and above) who arent envious of shorter women to some degree

limescale · 08/08/2025 21:43

Why would you hate it? What sort of problems are you imagining tall women have?

Odd odd odd. There is nothing non feminine about my tall body with small breasts.

Wolfpinkola · 08/08/2025 21:47

Tall person here, no I think men fancy shorter women more

WTF? This thread is nuts. I am 5 ft 10 and have never been envious of short women. Why the hell would I be?
