Why is everyone so angry at Labour?

From what I understand they tried to cut (essential) benefits and put the money somewhere else. And what happened was labour MPs got angry, threat of resulting poverty in the population etc. So labour backtracked.

My questions are

  1. they backtracked so doesnt that mean they get it?

B) weren't they trying to find money to fill a hole that must be filled?

C) How else could have they raised the money? High taxed- bad people get very annoyed NHS cant handle more cuts.

I'm guessing they thought that forcing people off benefits would stimulate the economy by forcing people 'back into work'.

Because many of these people are perfectly capable of affording a car, they just don't have one because they're getting a freebie!

I give up. It's this grabby, entitled attitude that's fucked this country.

They are not getting a freebie. They are exchanging part of their PIP for it. They also never own it as it is leased.
If they didn't have the car then they would still get the PIP. It would make no difference to the budget.

Well who's paying for it then?!

These are the people who should not be receiving PIP in the first place and why this particular benefit is so problematic

People who can get a car on PIP are on the enhanced rate and have severe disabilities.
They will have been assessed as being eligible for that rate of PIP based on medical evidence and assessment. It is not down to to say they should not be receiving it. It sounds like you are jealous of them having a car. Have their car but have their disabilities too.

I'm not debating that (try reading my previous posts), but people who are capable of working full time in high paying, WFH roles are not in need of this benefit.

The 'you're jealous' argument is so lazy. No, I'm not jealous, but we simply cannot afford to keep bankrolling benefits to people that don't need them! All the while, carers who have given up their lives and prospects of earning money to look after children or partners are paid less than minum wage!

How many high earners are on PIP? I expect if their PIP was removed it would not make much of a dent on the overall amount given out.

I see you're just going to keep defending this to the death so there's absolutely no point in continuing.

CBATRTFT.

People are down on Labour because Labour’s been proved to be a pack of liars, hypocrites and incompetents.

They are - yes, they are - even worse than the government they replaced.

How many high earners are on PIP do you reckon?

I WFH 3 days a week and my DP takes me to the office for the other 2. We could use the motability scheme and DP would use the car to take himself to work.

So that's apparently wrong too?

Actually, whether they are worse than the previous shower remains to be seen. How can you possibly know after only one year?

You asked if something was wrong. I explained why it was wrong.

It has demonstrably failed.

EDIT: Holy shit that got taken down fast. For anyone reading there was nothing personal in that post at all. It was just another explanation why, if you take from one group of people and give to another, the latter group increasingly join the former.

It isn't wrong. You didnt need to explain anything.

EasternStandard · 05/07/2025 09:24

It looks like more people are about to be angry with Labour. Tax rises due to welfare rebels according to Reeves.

You asked if a state subsidised new car to get you to work was wrong. I explained why state subsidies are wrong. It was a direct response to your question. And it was generalised not personal. If you don't want something explained to you, don't ask for it to be explained.

Raising taxes is easy. Raising revenue is hard. :(

You re revelling in this aren't? every thread, every opportunity!

Yet unless you work in no11, you haven't a clue which taxes "might" increase.

Quite likely no GE promises will be broken at all, Reeves can easily cover extra expense with so called hidden tax rises, not least on changes to un earned income rates.

I wasn't asking for anything to be explained because its not wrong. You took it as an actual question, but the only answer was no.

Yeah, becaise the government definitely made a nightmare politically catastrophic (but correct) attempt to get spending under control when there were "easy" alternatives with no consequences. 🤦‍♂️

Anyway when you start lying about stuff that actually visible to everyone it's time for me to stop giving you the attention you're seeking.

Yes and as I have stated, the only answer to that was NO.
