Our bedroom is currently 34 degrees im thinking about sleeping downstairs my partner says he's sleeping in the garden. Are you all going to bed as normal or sleeping elsewhere

Do you say that when people put their heating on in the winter?

And actually, the unit I have is extremely efficient and doesn’t use much energy.

But, back to my first point..it always amuses me how it’s somehow acceptable to use energy to heat your house when it’s cold and you’re uncomfortable, but not to cool it when it’s too hot and you’re uncomfortable.

this 100%

There’s no heatwave in Scotland. I’m under my 15 tog duvet and quite comfortable. We’ve hardly seen any blue sky for weeks and it has been raining & very windy.

Amyone want to swap? I hate the weather in western Scotland.

Yes. I’ll swap you for London in a heartbeat.
34° here 🥵. Bloody hate it.

Makes no difference at all in a tiny London terraced house

It really really does!

Keep windows open if it's colder outside and inside as soon as it levels up shut them keep curtains closed when the sun is hitting the windows.

My mum is from a hot country and always gets annoyed how English people don't do this!

springissprung2025 · 01/07/2025 10:47

I slept downstairs on the sofa. It was horrible as the cushion buttons poked me. But it was much cooler than my sweltering fourth floor attic bedroom. One pup decided to be needy and kept cuddling into me which is very unlike him. Must buy a fan

murasaki · 01/07/2025 11:30

Ah yes, the curse of the pet who is needy and cuddly in summer, yet won't be a hot water bottle in winter. I have one of those.

I do this all the time and it really doesn’t make a difference.

This is exactly what I been doing these past few weeks and my bedroom is still over 30 at night

I've only just seen this thread. I slept in my very warm bedroom. But with a wet duvet cover, straight from the machine and a fan. It makes night time bearable.

Are you another one of those posters commenting from Greenland ?? 🤔

Close enough...Northern Ireland.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 01/07/2025 14:38

in my bedroom, windows open with the fan on windowsill blowing the cool air directly on to me. Got a bit chilly about 2.30am so went under the covers.

GatoradeMeBitch · 01/07/2025 15:40

My main issue is dealing with a very upset cat who likes to share my pillow, but I just can't stand it in this heat. I have to shut her out of the bedroom and that makes the room stuffier. Quality of sleep ranks higher on my list of priorities than keeping the electricity bill down, so I have a tower fan that I aim at my shoulder, I let it run all night and it keeps me comfortable. Downstairs is two degrees cooler because of tree shade, but I can't think about sleeping on the sofa because I will have a furry hot water bottle making herself comfortable on my chest within minutes.

Flatbellyfella · 01/07/2025 15:47

27 degrees reading on the thermostat last night so just pants on top of cotton sheets.

LarrySherbert · 01/07/2025 07:16

Sorry, not the point of the thread but, you can get a shoulder replacement?! I did not know that.

I slept most of the night in bed with a fan either side. Still woke up at 5 because it was stifling and came downstairs to open the patio doors and let the cool in. I would have gone back to sleep but last time I did that, when I woke up there was a pigeon in the living room.

🤣

FunkySoulMedina · 01/07/2025 06:21

Open the loft hatch it makes a whole heap of difference, it makes it more bearable 😀

No necessarily. It can make it worse as the hot air from the lift escapes and makes the place hotter.

Daftypants · 01/07/2025 22:47

I’ve been sleeping my bed with a summer weight thin duvet ( because for some odd reason I like a cover over me just so the monster under the bed doesn’t get me 😂 ) my bedroom was about 23c which is ok but I did put a fan on a low setting so the room didn’t seem too stuffy .
tonight is cooler so I think my bedroom is about 19c .
i won’t need the fan

All in our beds as normal, I suspect it was about 30 degrees upstairs but it's OK naked. I don't mind the heat that much.

I do get climate anxiety though and everyone resorting to air con makes my heart drop. We're covering up issues by creating some more.

If you hate the heat, I urge you to take action, every little step helps.

As a side note, I recently discovered that it takes 15000 liters of water to produce one kilo of beef. I found that mind blowing and I've drastically cut my consumption.

How about if everyone getting Aircon had to get solar panels?

I'm looking into Aircon but I've committed to myself that if I go for it, I'll get solar panels and a hot water tank too!

Negroany · 02/07/2025 00:26

(I rarely eat beef!)

Mygrandkidsaregreat · 02/07/2025 01:49

Someone somewhere suggested using hot water bottles, filled with cold water and frozen to take to bed and placed wherever you think will cool you down.

musicalfrog · 02/07/2025 02:50

30.9 in my room tonight!!

I've resorted to getting a cold wet flannel to lay across my tummy. Ahhhhhhh.

considertheravens · 02/07/2025 04:55

When I was PG, I was told to put the sheets in the freezer all day and put them on the bed just before bed. I never tried it, but it sounds like it might be nice.
I have a fan that you can put ice cubes in with water to help cool things down. I got it off Amazon a few years ago. It wasn't expensive. It's more personal size rather than whole room, but definitely helps to have it blow on you.

Just got back from a hotel earlier after four day mini break with a group. My flatmate & my place if sweltering, so gonna crash at my BFs place with her as it's tiny but cooler.
He's also got a power shower to spray down if necessary. We'll crash on the sofabed and chill in our skimpies. He can be left in peace in his room. He's whacked his knee, so let's avoid knocking it. Trees outside shelter windows beside us from sun and keep privacy.
That's a plan anyway. See how it goes as been awake over twenty four hours now 😵‍💫

YourChirpyFatball · 02/07/2025 20:34

I'm keeping a flannel in the freezer to cool myself down at intervals during the day. Heavenly.

cheesycheesy · 02/07/2025 20:36

Much cooler today even in London. Warm but should be able to sleep

HevenlyMeS · 02/07/2025 21:02

Yes Completely comprehend & empathise wholeheartedly
My family & I are slumbering in our bedrooms but windows open no covers unless by our sides & yes when we go out of an evening can so feel much fresher cooler, lovely healthy difference
Like our friend recently reminded us, our homes are designed to keep heat in
So by the end of the day, it's like a Sauna indoors 🥵
Wishing you & yours all the utmost very best 💚🌼
