Shit i hope everyone inside is ok

Oh no, the whole house? Anyone outside? I do worry about having the fans on 24/7. It’s 28c inside already. I feel awful and have a huge day ahead

Thomasina79 · 01/07/2025 06:10

I love the sun but think of us yesterday, I accidentally left one of the burners on the stove on! We had been out all day and house felt like a furnace and so dangerous, as for sleeping I’m naked (too much information) under a sheet.i can’t sleep anyway atm because of bad shoulder pain. Hurry up shoulder replacement!

KateMiskin · 01/07/2025 06:12

Slept 4 hrs maybe. And I have to take the Tube today. Please let it cool down.

FunkySoulMedina · 01/07/2025 06:21

Open the loft hatch it makes a whole heap of difference, it makes it more bearable 😀

TizerorFizz · 01/07/2025 06:23

In my bed as usual. Windows open and fan on. Just woken up after an uninterrupted nights sleep. No problems.

EleanorReally · 01/07/2025 06:25

had a shower before bed, busy day yesterday, i slept a full night

Lndnmummy · 01/07/2025 06:29

In bed with ds2, fan on. It was awful but worse for ds1 who has a loft room and dh who slept in the living room.

DreamTheMoors · 01/07/2025 06:30

It’s +94F (+34C) where I live in California. It was over 100 today, 101 I think. And that isn’t nearly as hot as it’ll get as the summer progresses.
I leave the air/con off during the day but I can’t handle the heat at night. I turn it on so so I can .get some sleep.

What an awful night, hot, muggy and woken up at 3.40 by banging and popping, looked out of the window and there is a house on fire down the road!

Omg! Hope everyone is OK. That's definitely a worse night for someone than for all of us 🙁

musicalfrog · 01/07/2025 06:33

@reversegear there is a temp gauge on my clock radio. In winter the dc like to snuggle under the covers, bring it in there with then and watch it rise!

Crucible · 01/07/2025 06:33

Slept upstairs. I just needed my mattress for my back for the night. Airbed killing me downstairs. It's cooler down there but I'm in agony.

I absolutely hate fan noise. Have earplugs in but the high setting still hurts my ears with plugs in. Roll on Autumn.

That’s awful. Everybody’s worst nightmare.
I hope they’re all safe and sound and injury-free.
Every time I hear about a house fire, I think about the homeowners in California who are uninsurable because of where they live - and they don’t live in risky places, either.
The insurance companies have just decided that they aren’t going to insure great swaths of people for fire any more.
Bastards.

Omg im so jealous of everyone with air con right now.

Further contributing to global warming 😡

Penguinslove · 01/07/2025 06:52

I’m so jealous of all these people who love the heat!!! I can’t stand being warm, I then start to feel sick and sometimes vomit. I just coughed and gagged.

We actually rule out places on holiday above 30C because of how much I hate the heat

Loloj · 01/07/2025 06:54

Slept in our bedroom with French doors wide open all night and window open in front bathroom so a lovely cool breeze pulled through. I’m sure I got bitten in the night as I could hear a mosquito but it was too hot to have doors and windows closed.

LillyPJ · 01/07/2025 06:58

In my bed next to double windows wide open and curtains open. In the early hours there's a beautiful cool breeze coming in.

Insuring something that's a huge risk just isn't financially viable.

OneRealOchreHiker · 01/07/2025 07:03

So it’s not their house, it’s the garage and they were storing chemicals in there. The flames were higher than the house next door. Luckily no one injured and their house seems fine. Is a strange smell of rotten eggs around though…

lovemelongtime · 01/07/2025 07:16

What a melodramatic lot on here. I bet you said she up each year to go on holiday, probably somewhere hot, to get some sunshine and bask in it. But if we have one week of decent summer here everyone's complaining of heat stroke. Makes me laugh

Sorry, not the point of the thread but, you can get a shoulder replacement?! I did not know that.

I slept most of the night in bed with a fan either side. Still woke up at 5 because it was stifling and came downstairs to open the patio doors and let the cool in. I would have gone back to sleep but last time I did that, when I woke up there was a pigeon in the living room.

Christmasbear1 · 01/07/2025 07:23

can't cope with this heat. Didn't think I'd get any sleep but I was so tired I managed a few hrs

Houses in hotter climates don’t tend to keep heat in like uk houses and hotels often have air conditioning. It’s completely different to London at 30 odd degrees!

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 01/07/2025 07:34

Our bedroom did not drop below 32° all night but as soon as you open the door to the landing its like the rest of the house is easily 10° lower.

I've got heat reflecting window film on, black out blinds, windows shut in the day and open at night, and I can't make it make sense.

DS tried to hug me this morning and I couldn't bare being touched.

Not quite the same though, is it?

I love Turkey, it got to 47 degrees last year but there was a pool and air con in the rooms.
I didn’t have to catch a train, or work in an office, or tackle rush hour.

We are not built for this heat over here, our buildings are designed to keep heat in. Very few people have air con in their homes.

Surely you can see the difference?

Zone2NorthLondon · 01/07/2025 07:38

Hotel suite has it covered
air con a go-go
