Our bedroom is currently 34 degrees im thinking about sleeping downstairs my partner says he's sleeping in the garden. Are you all going to bed as normal or sleeping elsewhere

In my bed, with the electric blanket on.

It's been cold here today.

In bed in my brushed cotton winter pyjamas with an extra blanket on top of the duvet and the windows closed. Contemplating getting up to fill a hot water bottle for my poor freezing feet, I can't sleep with cold feet.

Are you another one of those posters commenting from Greenland ?? 🤔

localnotail · 01/07/2025 07:45

To the people who say they "love heat" and sleep under the duvet in a 34 degree bedrooms - how? I'm literally melting. Its gross. I had to change my bedsheet, it was so wet. I think I lost a couple of kg in the last few days just from sweating, my body is really not liking this heat. How come you dont sweat?

minnienono · 01/07/2025 07:49

My bedroom was about 20 degrees, perfectly pleasant with a light duvet. Trick is to keep curtains shut until the sun isn’t on that side of the house

Myblueclematis · 01/07/2025 07:52

I live in a chalet house and the bedroom gets really hot, hot, HOT! I still sleep ok when the weather is like it currently is, better than most people who say they can't sleep at all.

I do have a duvet on but just chuck it off if I get too hot but overall, I sleep pretty well in heat. Tonight looks to be very warm too looking at the night time expected temperatures.

Still, should be cooler tomorrow night, rain expected in the morning.

minnienono · 01/07/2025 07:52

And yes I’m in the U.K. - Bristol. Only got to 29 in the day

Makes no difference at all in a tiny London terraced house

34° here yesterday. I had a cool bath, slept under a sheet not a duvet and had the fan on. If any light sleepers want a recommendation for a quiet fan I have one, it wasn’t cheap but it has 26 settings and the sound level starts at 13dB. Finallyyyy I can sleep with a fan on! I used to sleep with a frozen water bottle wrapped in a tea towel or a frozen hot water bottle which works well if no fan

Further contributing to global warming 😡

Do you say that when people put their heating on in the winter?

And actually, the unit I have is extremely efficient and doesn’t use much energy.

But, back to my first point..it always amuses me how it’s somehow acceptable to use energy to heat your house when it’s cold and you’re uncomfortable, but not to cool it when it’s too hot and you’re uncomfortable.

HollyIvie · 01/07/2025 08:13

Id love the hot weather if i had air con at night to sleep!

Sunshineandrainbows34 · 01/07/2025 08:15

All in our beds as normal, I suspect it was about 30 degrees upstairs but it's OK naked. I don't mind the heat that much.

I do get climate anxiety though and everyone resorting to air con makes my heart drop. We're covering up issues by creating some more.

If you hate the heat, I urge you to take action, every little step helps.

As a side note, I recently discovered that it takes 15000 liters of water to produce one kilo of beef. I found that mind blowing and I've drastically cut my consumption.

Downstairs on the sofa here too. Everyone else is unbothered upstairs. I have a stupidly big glass panel in my bedroom - paying the price for that decision whenever we get a heatwave 😢

I live in Cyprus, where temps at the moment are at around 31ºC in the daytime, a bit lower at night, but we have air-con and fans in all four rooms so can cope (apart from arguments as my H and my assessments of comfortable temperatures/coverings are wildly different). But @Trueloveneverdies, your post prompted me to mention a house we can see on the hill behind our ordinary little cement bungalow - it is two storey, with glass from floor to ceiling all the way through. Looks bad enough in winter, but I don’t know how they bear it in summer. I think they must also have floor to ceiling blinds, but then that must mean they live in semi-darkness in these temperatures Grin

I slept with a fan on all the time, was fine. Rain in predicted for tomorrow, lower temperatures thereafter.

YesHonestly · 01/07/2025 07:35

Not quite the same though, is it?

I love Turkey, it got to 47 degrees last year but there was a pool and air con in the rooms.
I didn’t have to catch a train, or work in an office, or tackle rush hour.

We are not built for this heat over here, our buildings are designed to keep heat in. Very few people have air con in their homes.

Surely you can see the difference?

Exactly this i could of cried yesterday putting socks and trousers on to go to work. I love the hot weather when im not at work or trying to sleep.

Yes please! What fan is it?

It’s the Duux Whisper Flex smart standing fan. I’ve happily slept through the first 10 speeds so far and a couple of times have accidentally left it turned on all morning on the lowest speeds because they’re practically silent. Definitely my best buy of the year!

I’d rather have air conditioning and stop all these Ai severs and the wasteful energy from factories abroad.

I drove around for an extra 20 minutes after work today just to enjoy the air con in the car it was so nice.

Am going to drive to the supermarket today for that reason 😂😂

It does!

I keep all our curtains and windows shut at the front of the house in the day, then in the evening the sun come round the back so I shut those. As soon as it's cooler outside than in I open all the windows and by the time we go to bed it's cool in the house! Put a fan next to the window to draw the cool air in

There’s no heatwave in Scotland. I’m under my 15 tog duvet and quite comfortable. We’ve hardly seen any blue sky for weeks and it has been raining & very windy.

Amyone want to swap? I hate the weather in western Scotland.

Me.

Pick me.

I have two portable aircons and two fans.

Its ridiculous. I have ONE air con unit in my house.

We don't have central heating. We have 2 heaters that we use on cold days.

Yet my neighbour wanted to judge my air con. She drives a old diesel land-rover and drives it 2 mins up the school.

I barely leave the house due to disibility.

Anyone judging needs to get a grip.

This really doesn't help when the south facing window gets 33 sun in it all day. I mean it takes off about 2 or 3 degrees....but that's it
