Our bedroom is currently 34 degrees im thinking about sleeping downstairs my partner says he's sleeping in the garden. Are you all going to bed as normal or sleeping elsewhere

Also in bed with ice packs and ac and fan on.

TranceNation · 01/07/2025 04:08

Yep in bed. Woke up at 3am and have been and dragged the AC unit from downstairs. It's a bit noisy, well it's not exactly noisy but I'm a light sleeper but it's got to be better than sleeping in a muggy room.

Brightstar5 · 01/07/2025 04:16

Still awake, toddler found me in the spare room so got in here for an hour and now she’s gone back to DH again. We usually wouldn’t let that happen and DD usually sleeps through the night but she’s so hot bless her. I feel like I’ve been awake all night

reversegear · 01/07/2025 04:17

How does everyone know the temperature in their rooms? I’ve just woken up as the birds have kicked off here but I’m in a thatch in a north facing downstairs room, so it’s cool, and I have 2 windows so a small breeze is coming in. It’s actually nice but no clue on temperature, I’d be curious to know.

musicalfrog · 01/07/2025 04:18

All those garden sleepers will be regretting it now it's getting light so early!!

It's 28.3 in my room. It was only 26 when I went to sleep last night. That little difference is bothering me a lot now. Sigh. I can't have the fan directly on me either.

Shedmistress · 01/07/2025 04:18

It was 44°c here in the shade today. My cat has just gone out so in bed, windows open, fan on, naked. With one of my mega ice cubes which is a bottled water bottle refilled and frozen. It usually lasts all night but has completely melted tonight.

All our outdoor semi feral cats are so over this heat. Poor buggers.

One more hotter day tomorrow then I think it cools down a touch.

Sorry to be smug but a weird advantage of living in a house with a thatched roof is that it's super cool in summer. On the south coast and I didn't even realise it had been a hot day till I went to put the washing out at 5. It's like a lovely cave in here 😎

Fellow cave dweller here! I just posted my bedroom is a north facing lower room with small windows, it’s cool and breezy in here.

Thermostat on the wall @reversegear

28c in my room currently, managed some sleep but just woke up with an extremely dry mouth!

Zanatdy · 01/07/2025 04:40

In my bedroom and it’s 28 degrees, fan blasting. DD is sleeping on the sofa bed as got an air con in living room. It’s just one of those portable things, but the room is large so it still is hot in there, but it’s better than the bedroom. This flat is boiling.

@alexalisten you sound just like me with the monsters and murderers… I think we watch too much true crime!

Hope you all get some sleep tonight. It’s a tough one.

I definitely watch to much true crime 🤣🤣

What an awful night, hot, muggy and woken up at 3.40 by banging and popping, looked out of the window and there is a house on fire down the road!

Crocsforlife · 01/07/2025 05:11

I don't know how you guys are coping I'm in Scotland and finding it unbearable to sleep and I think we are only about 20 degrees.

My husband and son and weirdos and love sleeping in the garden though do it regularly surprised the neighbours haven't complained about the snoring.

@OneRealOchreHiker I hope everyone is ok in the fire x

I've got those little portable hygrometers in most rooms. They measure humidity and temperature

justasking111 · 01/07/2025 05:17

I rem a thread in a previous heat wave where a garden trampoline was recommended for sleeping on.

Wolmando · 01/07/2025 05:20

In bed, portable aircon was on yesterday evening before bed, then Dyson fan when in bed as aircon noisy so room was about 20-26 overnight.. Just woke up and it says 26 in house so opened doors and windows as air is slightly cooler outside.

Wolmando · 01/07/2025 05:23

We have those little temperature gauges in all rooms and the fridge and freezer, the fridge and freezer also needed turning up, freezer in garage is struggling a bit.

OneRealOchreHiker · 01/07/2025 05:29

@Crocsforlife i hope so too, awful thing for them x

Catsinaflat · 01/07/2025 05:37

I slept in the living room last night on the sofa and dh on a futon mattress on the floor. We have an air con unit in there. Just woke up and it’s 28 degrees but still cooler than the rest of our top floor London tiny flat. When I got home yesterday it was 34 in here. Dreading my office today.

Bookloveruk · 01/07/2025 05:41

I slept downstairs. Upstairs was suffocating. I couldn’t bear it

In my bed, with the electric blanket on.

It's been cold here today.

Whereabouts are you? I didn’t think anywhere was cold today.

Vates · 01/07/2025 06:07

I live in a small first floor flat and it has been hideous. I sleep weird hours anyway (7pm until 3am-4am) but it was just so uncomfortable, even not doing anything just laying still. I felt the early stages of a panic attack brewing when I first woke up as felt like I couldn't breathe properly.

I really feel for those that have physical jobs to do in this heat.
