How many countries have you visited?

Florally · 28/05/2025 21:28

My kids were playing around with AI and learned that the average person on earth has been to less than one country (other than their country of residence..)

And for the UK specifically, 9. (Point something…)

I’m just being pointlessly nosy, mostly because I thought it would be much lower. (For example, a lot of people I know go back to the same destination year on year..)

How about you?

I’m on twelve in my 40s. Mostly in Europe but also US and Indonesia

Bitteralmond · 28/05/2025 21:39

Twenty-four (not counting the 10 unpleasant minutes I once spent in Bulgaria). I used to work in a sector where people were very well-travelled, so this doesn't seem a lot to me. I have lived in three of those countries, and also returned multiple times to others. I am not including the devolved nations of the UK either.

OneFootInTheDave · 28/05/2025 21:41

17 not including UK - which is technically 4 countries - so 21 in total.

MerryPortas · 28/05/2025 21:43

I have done:

Canada
America
Spain
Italy
France
Belgium
Portugal
Luxembourg
Germany
Ireland
and the four nations of the UK

wishIwasonholiday10 · 28/05/2025 21:43

Around 60 but no new countries since having DD.

Wow, over 60 is amazing. I’m very jealous!

Do you travel for work?

A couple of them were for work (conferences) and I have lived in 3 countries but mostly just travelling. I used to travel a lot pre-baby and pre-mortgage but not so much anymore since having DD 3 years ago.

Takeoutyourcow · 28/05/2025 21:47

16 I think. Have lived in four of them.

PeriMoan · 28/05/2025 21:49
  1. It would be more but I don't like flying so these were largely over land. DH has visited many more than I. Probably 35-ish.

So far DCs have been to 14.

Lisbeth50 · 28/05/2025 21:52

9 plus Wales and Scotland.

firsttimemom99x · 28/05/2025 21:53

I’m 26 and I’ve just hit my 40th country

Jjff89 · 28/05/2025 21:55

9 countries I'm 35...I'd say it is only in my 30s really I had enough money to start travelling to places more reguarly.

I've been to:

Ireland - Dublin
Greece - Malia
Turkey - Dalaman
Bulgaria - Sunny beach 🤣 some parts nicer than you think
Spain - Barcelona, Majorca, Tenerife
Germany - Cologne
Hungary - Budapest
Poland - Krakow
Scotland - Port Patrick

3 weeks planned travelling all over Portugal in September - can't wait!

drspouse · 28/05/2025 21:55

Total 34 countries.
20 in Europe (just remembered one more plus the three other nations of the UK
7 in Africa
4 in the Americas
3 in Asia (I used a map but couldn't find Singapore so tapped on Malaysia instead!).
I might be going to a new European country next year for a work meeting but this year will be repeats of France and Germany.
I'm not counting a couple of plane changes.

JustAnInchident · 28/05/2025 21:56

I’m 32 and live in England;
Wales
Scotland
Ireland
France
Spain
Italy
Austria
Bulgaria
Belgium
Luxembourg
Andorra
Switzerland
Germany
Monaco
Turkey
Greece
Croatia
New Zealand (lived here for a while!)
Australia
Samoa
Fiji
Singapore
Canada
America

So 24, based on that, and if the ‘four nations’ count! Most of the European ones were when I was a child/teenager. Lots of camper van holidays, and latterly, and into adulthood, ski holidays!

PeriMoan · 28/05/2025 21:57

Oh I didn't include the Vatican and Monaco. Not sure if they count, but if they do I'm up to 19 😊

My kids counted Vatican City - I think you can have it 😉

Nearly 50 and I make it 24 countries.

DelphiniumBlue · 28/05/2025 22:01

17, plus Wales and Scotland. Haven't done much travelling since I had DC, 30 years ago now, only one new country with them, and mostly UK and France in recent years.

drspouse · 28/05/2025 22:02

I also forgot Vatican City and Monaco so that's 36!

itstrue · 28/05/2025 22:03

41 at 50 years old.

vincettenoir · 28/05/2025 22:03

I’ve been to 24. I went on two long trips in my early twenties where I visited a lot of places. But most often I go to Spain, France or Greek islands.

AllAroundMyGarden · 28/05/2025 22:04

11 . We mostly repeat holidayed in France, Spain and Italy for many years, and we’ve never been outside of Europe

Chocolateorange22 · 28/05/2025 22:05

I didn't fly for the first time until I was 19. Travel insurance is incredibly expensive for DH so we didn't make the most of travelling pre kids unfortunately. I haven't renewed my passport since it ran out last year as not planning on going anywhere until the kids are older.

ohmondew · 28/05/2025 22:06

I'm in my 30s and I've been to 35. I'm counting the UK as 1 (am Irish) and I've lived in 3 of the countries. All Asia, Europe and North America- am off to my first African country this summer! Can't wait.
