How many countries have you visited?

My kids were playing around with AI and learned that the average person on earth has been to less than one country (other than their country of residence..)

And for the UK specifically, 9. (Point something…)

I’m just being pointlessly nosy, mostly because I thought it would be much lower. (For example, a lot of people I know go back to the same destination year on year..)

How about you?

I’m 36 and I’ve been to 4 countries:
France (twice)
Portugal (twice)
Spain
Wales (if that counts)

Never went abroad as a child and I hate flying now as an adult.
I have autism so I don’t like travelling, as it’s all too stressful for me.

45 according to the been app, thats still only %23 of the world!

HairsprayBabe · 29/05/2025 13:04

I'm 33 and I'm on 10 if you count the four nations and the Vatican!

I only had UK holidays as a child and I haven't been abroad since before covid.

My 4yo says his "lifes dream" is to go to Japan I would like to see if we can do that for him if the desire remains longer term.

Badbadbunny · 29/05/2025 13:11

I'm on 29 countries aged 60. Most of those were done in my 20s and early 30s. We used to travel 3 times per year before we got married and had kids.

More than 28 different distinct "places" as I've only counted Spain once but we've also been to 3 Canary Islands and 2 balearic Islands, likewise only counted Greece once but we've been to 4 different Greek Islands as well as the main land.

Hoolahoophop · 29/05/2025 13:14

25 I think, I didn't leave the UK until I was 21 and stopped travelling much when the kids arrived at 30. But had quite busy 20s!

JudithOnHolidayAgain · 29/05/2025 13:16

UnderratedCabbage · 29/05/2025 13:18

If people count parts of UK separately, shouldn't they count parts of USA, Emirates, Germany etc the same way?

iamjuneosborne · 29/05/2025 13:22

65 ish including the UK. Aged 55. Did a lot of travelling in my 20s!

The different countries in the UK are different countries - the UK is a group of countries, not a country.

In the USA, there are different states, but it's still one country.

This thread is about countries.

mamaduckbone · 29/05/2025 13:35

England
Scotland
Wales
France
Belgium
Netherlands
Germany
Switzerland
Poland
Spain (inc Canaries)
Italy
Greece

So that's 12 including UK countries, all in Europe - I'd like to venture further afield but not sure when that will happen.

generalday · 29/05/2025 13:38

there is an app ‘been’ that helps you keep track if that interests anyone . . .

How many countries have you visited?
Nicole621 · 29/05/2025 13:45

39, there's about another 22 I want to visit before I die though!

Nicole621 · 29/05/2025 13:50

I didn't count Cyprus because it's Greek/Turkish, but for some reason that reminded me that I'd forgotten Malta which gives me a nice round 40!

BrianWankum · 29/05/2025 13:52

Live in England, have been to another 15 (North America and Europe) plus Wales and Scotland.

Probably won't do more, I'm trying not to fly.

CiaoMeow · 29/05/2025 13:58

I think it's 16 + Scotland and Wales

LandSharksAnonymous · 29/05/2025 13:59

I probably have an unfair advantage (foreign policy job). Most of the below was less than a week, with one of the countries being 9 hours on the ground, other than America where I did two weeks because I had no choice:

Iraq
Iran
Syria
Saudia Arabia
Qatar
Kuwait

Egypt
Mogadishu

America
Canada

France
Germany
Spain
Portugal
Belgium
Norway
Finland
Sweden
Croatia
Czechia
Slovakia
Slovena
Austria
Poland
Italy

Russia
Ukraine
Moldova
Azerbaijan
Armenia
Georgia (just to transit to Azerbaijan)

China
Hong Kong

That's all for work. I haven't travelled overseas for holiday for more than twenty years.

steppemum · 29/05/2025 14:03

20
plus 4 UK nations
adding a new one this summer, and another one this autumn!

I lived in:
Saudi Arabia
Indonesia
The Netherlands
Kazakhstan
Scotland
Wales
England

So that's the next thread, how many places have you actaully lived in?

StampOnTheGround · 29/05/2025 14:23

15 countries not including any in the UK, I didnt go abroad until I was 11 so I don’t think I’ve don’t too badly over 20 years with visiting some numerous times!

My just turned 3 year old has done 4 in the last 1.5 year, so I’m sure he’ll be way ahead of me at my age!

TulipTuesday · 29/05/2025 14:30

Age 45.
Outside of the UK - 0
But I have been to Scotland and Wales.

My total will go up to 4 countries by the end of the year 😊

Mollysocks · 29/05/2025 14:35

40s, England

Wales
Scotland
Ireland
France
Germany
Netherlands
Belgium
Austria
Luxembourg
Spain
Sweden
Italy
Denmark
Latvia
Czech Republic
Greece
Poland
Malta
Turkey
United States
Canada
Japan

So I’m not very well travelled out of Europe but planning an Australia/NewZealand holiday in near future.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 29/05/2025 14:46

25 including Vatican city and Monaco, 23 if not counting these.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 29/05/2025 14:46

With DDad's job we lived in the Netherlands for a year, and the USA(Houston) for 6 months, but I have returned to both these places several times as an adult. I also once spent 6 weeks on the Isle of Raasay (Inner Hebrides)

I have a DB and a DSis who both travel extensively for work. I always feel badly travelled next to them, but this list isn't too shabby at all.

Im 54 and have, at minimum, had a meal and stayed the night in:

Live in England
Scotland
Wales
NI
ROI
(Orkney, Inner and Outer Hebrides)
France
Switzerland
Spain
Holland
Belgium
Germany
Austria
Turkey
Greece
Monaco
Italy
USA
Mexico
Canada
Norway
Denmark
Finland
Iceland
Kenya
Tanzania
Uganda
Zaire
Zimbabwe
Malawi
Rwanda
Botswana
Namibia

TheBig50 · 29/05/2025 14:47
