He’s had a stroke following a number of open heart surgeries to repair and replace his heart valves. I can’t breathe, I overheard them say terminal stroke. I love him so much.

Withdrawing good and water is not something that I have ever seen done unless someone was unable to swallow. And I’m a nurse looking after end of life patients ver frequently.

I’m afraid this must happen more than you admit to. My late husband had a bleed on the brain and it was decided there was no hope of recovery. He was unconscious so obviously could neither eat nor drink. He was being fed intravenously. I asked what the point of this was if there was 100% guarantee that he would die eventually. I couldn’t see the point of keeping him alive when there was no hope, and he could carry on existing for weeks in this vegetative state. They asked me if I was asking them to stop treatment and I said I was. It broke my heart but I had to do what was right for him. It was agreed that his lips would be kept moist but that was all. He died peacefully a few hours later and just before he took his last breath, a single tear trickled down his cheek.

I'm so very sorry my heart goes out to you. I'm glad your children will be with you tomorrow. ❤️ I know we are on mumsnet but sending hugs your way.

My heart goes out to you and your children

I lost a lovely friend to stroke a few years ago, while she was doing chemo.

Life is so unfair sometimes.

xx

TheHerboriste · 16/05/2025 01:34

How awful for you all.
He is suffering least of anyone, if that’s any consolation.

@Ilikeadrink14 your post made me sob. I’m so sorry for your loss.
i lost my mum so suddenly from a huge bleed on the brain just over 5 years ago I was heavily pregnant with my first baby. She was everything to me. The speed of it all was harrowing plus throw Covid in I couldn’t even go to the hospital. Awful awful sadness on this thread .

so sorry OP to you and your children

TotemPolly · 16/05/2025 06:19

So sorry to hear this , and he is still such a young man . Lots of people think a stroke is just an elderly persons thing when even a baby in the womb can have one.
Take care of yourself in the coming weeks and accept all help from those that can offer help .

KarmaKameelion · 16/05/2025 06:46

I’m so so sorry. There’s nothing else to say. X

Oneearringlost · 16/05/2025 06:48

I am thinking of you, OP. I wish I could take your pain away. I will hold you in my thoughts and prayers. There are no words I can think of to express how painful this must be for you, but there are many people on here embracing you. Xxx
