He’s had a stroke following a number of open heart surgeries to repair and replace his heart valves. I can’t breathe, I overheard them say terminal stroke. I love him so much.

Sending hugs. My DF had a massive stroke. If it's helpful this is how it progressed. They stopped food & water after 48 hours as there had been no improvement in his GCS score. They said it was difficult to predict how long it would take but they kept him comfortable. He eventually passed away a week after they withdrew food and water. I gather that this is the longer end of the spectrum, it might be much quicker. They did encourage us to keep talking to him as his hearing may have been one of the last things to go. Hopefully you will all get time to say whatever you want to say. Thinking of you.

Yes, my mother had a massive stroke and we were also told that hearing might be one of the last things to go. I found it very comforting to think that she could possibly still hear me.

I am so sorry OP. You do what you need, whether that is being at the hospital or with your children. They can always accompany you back there if you want.

Here to offer a hand hold. My Mum died following a severe stroke a couple of years ago. The hospital will make your darling husband comfortable. Hopefully you can gather your family round you and spend time with him. We talked to my Mum, brushed her hair, played her favourite music and generally just reassured her. Wishing you the strength to get through the days ahead, and sending hugs.
