From Huddersfield to York. An eye opener.

OP posts:
ThistleTits · 13/03/2025 19:56

@Zenana who is she?

Darlingx · 13/03/2025 20:01

Didn’t she say she slept with Micheal Hutchence in his hayday and apparently he said Thank you for your support the next morning which was a bit of a blow but I suppose puts you in the groupie zone.

@Zenana who is she?

Google down yet again?

SkaterGrrrrl · 13/03/2025 20:07

I remember when she wrote for The Guardian, and she wrote about planning her wedding. I was only in my twenties and I was horrified at how she talked about her fiance.

As I was on this thread, I thought I would ask here.

SerenaSemolena · 13/03/2025 21:17

I've decided to summarise your thread for you, op. Sorry.

Op:
I've just been sat near Liz Jones from The Daily Mail on a train.

Posters:
Who is Liz Jones?
The train doesn't go that way.
How dare anyone read The Daily Mail.

Op:
I've got off the train now.

She has/had a house in N Yorkshire. Absolutely slated her neighbours

That was kind of them but then we Northerners are known for our friendliness

I met her once. It was horrible. I gave a few statements on something related to a story she was doing (I was only about 19, in my defence, I would never speak to anyone from the Daily Mail now). She acted nice to my face, then completely misrepresented me in her paper, inserted her own bias and made out I was either lying or hopelessly misinformed. She also commented on my personal appearance in a way that was superficially complimentary but phrased in a way to imply "its a good thing she's pretty because she's stupid".

She's horrible.

Edited

so NFN for the cliche of the typical tabloid journo then. Can't abide her myself. Neurotic, self absorbed, money obsessed

SuperGinger · 14/03/2025 06:06

Is she autistic? The eating disorder, over sharing, poor with money, difficult personal relationships. I suspect undiagnosed autism.

I have asked this before and got heavily shot down, people saying she is just a liar and an arsehole or similar.
she probably is but there’s something about her repeatedly getting it so wrong with people and her communication which makes me think it’s possible

Newearah · 14/03/2025 07:32

As a previous post mentions, Liz has indeed recently tried to reinvent herself as some kind of sexual adventurer.
she has always come across as asexual and all her depictions of sexual encounters have been cold, angry and awkward.
her original story about hutchence was that he interviewed her and propositioned her and she didn’t have sex with him and as she was leaving he said ‘thank you for your support’

since the reinvention and the release of excerpts of her latest ‘novel’, sexually graphic, offensive and incomprehensible, she has changed the story to make it sound like they had sex.
She has also written awkward graphic depictions of her recent sexual encounters, as with her novel, hinting at being extremely enthusiastic and less than vanilla, but not ringing true, it feels like she is writing from the perspective of someone very inexperienced but trying to impress their reader.
she is not following the advice to ‘write about what you know’

Gowlett · 14/03/2025 10:55

That’s interesting, Newearah. I’ve always found descriptions of her marriage / relationships / sex-life to be very awkward.

She’s deluded in general, about much in life, though she’s clearly an intelligent woman & a good(ish) writer. She obviously thinks there’s money to be made, going in this direction.

Lentilweaver · 14/03/2025 10:57

I met her ex husband at a litfest. He's quite a twat with a massive chip on his shoulder and a pretty awful writer ( Liz is a far better one).

kitchentablegardentable · 14/03/2025 13:39

This is the article I read.

From 2018.

The terrifying uncertainty of having to rent in your 60s.

She spent £59,000 renovating a rental cottage and was then evicted as the landlady wanted to sell.

This was the first time I'd really heard of her, and I remember being amazed that somebody so supposedly successful, who had clearly earned a huge amount of money over her career, could have been so stupid.

I can't believe she actually did this. It's crackers.

Wow, she's mind bogglingly financially illiterate. She could have bought several homes outright instead of all the fancy furniture and renovating other people's houses.

Zenana · 15/03/2025 11:40

I'm on a train to York again! No sign of the Liz though, not yet anyway.

Some of those articles were absolutely crazy.

@voubledision , thanks again, your tip has worked for me. I didn’t even know you could do this! Cheers x

What happened to David Scrace?

What happened to David Scrace?

He’s still around and usually Liz contacts him when things go to shit with her other prospects, tells him how crap he is, they argue, work towards a reunion then piss each other off again.
hopefully he has someone else now .

@MrsTigerface don't buy the MOS, on Saturdays google "Liz Jones Diary" you can read it then, if you get the adverts or asked to subscribe use "reader view" (if iPhone or iPad). That's how I do it!

Sorry to resurrect this post - I too enjoy reading her articles but not MOS - have cancelled subscription and just tried above to access her diary but can’t see how to opt for “reader view”. Trying on my iPhone…. any help would be appreciated! 😊

MrsTigerface · 13/04/2025 14:50

@biscuitlovers , what I do on my iPad is to click on the article. It then appears with the Mail Plus logo and isn’t readable. At the top of the screen, on the left of the web address, there is an icon which looks like an oblong box with two lines below it. Click on it and a blue box appears which says ‘show reader’. Then the article magically appears.

I seem to be able to read all subscriber only articles on the MoS and other sites like this. I am massively grateful to @voubledision for this tip.

Good luck!

RosaMoline · 13/04/2025 14:52

Nice to see this thread resurrected.
Some random has been sending her effusive, flowery emails.
She’s going to meet this bloke at the Tate Modern. Never seen a pic of him.
He sounds somewhat unhinged…
