Oh god i absolutely detest fancy dress and often just decline the invite 🫣 which is a shame as i love socialising!
Easy enough theme though, just a cheap cape over your normal clothes. If anyone asks who you are, just say you’re a generic superhero.

How about an all-black outfit, with a small cobweb drawn on your cheekbone/by your eye? You could be a spider!

You’re going to get hundreds of responses from people complaining about how much they hate fancy dress and it is an evil thing to make people do and giving you scripts to use to refuse to wear it. I’m not sure that is going to be helpful for you though. You sound like you’ll be OK if you can just come up with a good costume.

My suggestion would be the Scarlet Witch as you could do a fairly drapey skirt and the headpiece is quite distinctive.
