Just watched his press conference in absolute disbelief. He's just blamed the air traffic controllers as apparently under the Biden administration they recruited people into the role who weren't intellectually capable. He actually blames diversity criteria and basically box ticking.... 'hiring people with severe intellectual and psychiatric disabilities' - that's a direct quote.

As someone with ASD, anxiety and depression who works in a high level, highly skilled role, I am angry on behalf of anyone like me.

The man is a dangerous liar.

He also mentioned people with missing limbs or dwarfism…he’s rambling. Americans should be confident to fly, in spite of it all.

I listened to it on the radio. Started off ok but then adding politics into a time of grief is awful. Trying to get political points by blaming previous presidents is just low. He literally blamed it on air traffic controllers, which to my knowledge is not founded.

@Lilifer I doubt anyone who is an air traffic controller has severe intellectual disabilities. That's what makes what he said so ridiculous.

Trump is an absolute disgrace. Trying to score points by capitalising on the deaths of these people. He just doesn't know when to pipe down.

Being an air traffic controller obviously requires a high degree of intelligence and is a very stressful job. However, what OP is very clearly pointing out is that Trump is using that language to make it seem like the Biden administration has hired people incapable of doing the job due to a box ticking exercise for diversity rather than people with autism, anxiety, depression can work as air traffic controllers, perhaps with reasonable adjustments but they can still do this highly technical work.

Don’t think every person with autism is incapable of having a highly skilled job?

I despise Trump, but air traffic controller is not a job for anyone with mental health issues. Sorry. The consequences of any mistake are just too catastrophic.

Trump is a disgrace. I watched it alongside my gay dd who is autistic and just wanted to turn the tv off. What message is he sending to everyone when he spouts nonsense and poisonous lies about diversity and equality? Trump should wait until the investigation is complete and then, if it is negligent actions by air traffic controllers, he can start to question if they were qualified but not now, it’s too soon and too generalised. He makes me so angry and the division he is seeking to create not just in the States but worldwide is truly frightening. I cannot believe that he included people with dwarfism as having “severe intellectual and psychiatric disabilities”! Maybe he hasn’t ever heard of Dr Jen Arnold, an eminent Paediatric doctor in America who also has drwarfism. He’s intellectually incapacitated if anyone is, and the way his secretaries of transportation and defence kissed his arse was cringe-inducing.

Until the accident has been investigated nobody has a clue what caused it, including Trump. He shouldn't be commenting any more than that he is sorry for the families and friends of the deceased and asking the Mayor of DC whether she needs federal help in organizing support for those who will no doubt be rushing to Washington to find out if their friend or relative managed to survive the crash. He is a real estate salesman not part of the National Transport Safety Board and he should remember that and stop making an abject fool of himself.

i am absolutely appalled and exclaimed out loud to myself when I heard this reported on the news just now. It’s such a dangerous rhetoric he speaks and blame game he plays.
I’m saddened and in disbelief that he can think such a thing is remotely okay to say, especially less than 24 hours after the tragedy.

I think it looked like he was scrabbling to blame anyone so the military activity isn't investigated too closely.

The man is clearly unhinged. I just don't understand how a felon who is mentally unwell was voted in. He was voted in because he is a white man with money behind him and the opposition was a black woman.

He's stopped benefits as well. So those voters are upset. He's sacking people so people who were relying on jobs to fulfil their dreams are upset. He's removing administrations so there's no oversight. This was all going to happen and Elon Musk and the rest of them are delighted.
