Just watched his press conference in absolute disbelief. He's just blamed the air traffic controllers as apparently under the Biden administration they recruited people into the role who weren't intellectually capable. He actually blames diversity criteria and basically box ticking.... 'hiring people with severe intellectual and psychiatric disabilities' - that's a direct quote.

As someone with ASD, anxiety and depression who works in a high level, highly skilled role, I am angry on behalf of anyone like me.

The man is a dangerous liar.

And you know this how? During his statement he has mentioned that he is aware of information that he will bring to peoples’ attention when appropriate. I do know that a lot of people are in jobs due to diversity and inclusion that might not be the best, due to fulfilling quotas. That does happen, and I believe people should be employed on merit, whatever their sex, race or disability. This isn’t too much of an issue with admin jobs, but would be a big problem if done at this sort of level where safety should be the priority and not fulfilling quotas. I guess we will see as it starts to unfold….

A sensible president would wait until the air crash investigation was over before making declarations as to reasons and causes.

If, after investigation, it turns out that any of the air traffic controllers were incompetent diversity hires who made fatal mistakes, then Trump would be within his rights to address that.

He blamed Biden, Obama, people with disabilities who are air traffic controllers, including people with dwarfism, the helicopter pilot... have I missed anyone out?? He also made garbled reference to 'the whites' but honestly I can't bear to go back and listen, or read it, again.

No class at all. Families have lost loved ones and he chose to talk about himself and the fact helicopters can go up and down. It was unbelieveably crass.

His spiel about DEI was also dreadful. There is no evidence that is the cause. He should shut his mouth until the investigation is concluded.

Oh, he also made protracted references to the cold, icy river - which I'm sure grieving families and friends really didn't need to dwell on.
My partner is a US citizen, he's in despair.

Air traffic controllers are federal employees. I imagine his speech will be exhibit 1 in the billion dollar lawsuit against the federal government lodged by relatives of the deceased, furious at the loss of their loved ones and needing compensation to support children and other dependents of those who have died.

I hope all the US air traffic controllers declare a day of inaction and stop working in protest at his comments.
