Wynne Evans - another “incident” re: Strictly

Mittens67 · 27/01/2025 13:55

Have just read that Wynne had made an inappropriate remark on the Strictly Tour last month and is now taking time off his radio show.
Having rather dismissed the hand thing on Strictly this year and speculation that there were issues between him and Katya I am now having a rethink.

OP posts:

When I saw the sliding hand and Katya's face I felt really sorry for her being stuck with him and wondered how she was putting up with him, but she was openly supporting him on Instagram last night so seems they are genuinely friends and she likes him. Bizarrely.

Do you not think that dancers in a very precarious position need to play nice?

Why would she need to play nice now that the tour is over (for her now he's gone)? She could just not say anything.

ExtraDisorganised · 29/01/2025 08:58

The tour isn't over, it goes on for another couple of weeks. I'm sure they won't drop Katya as well as Wynne even if they have to reformat things.

Because the pro dancers need to be seen as friendly and smiley at all times otherwise they get a reputation. And Katya already is in danger because of her Sean Walsh thing, plus rumours she is oj the chopping block.
Women should not be blamed for pervy men.

ExtraDisorganised · 29/01/2025 09:06

The pros have to toe the line, their contracts are up for renewal every year, it's precarious.

And they earn peanuts outside Strictly, so they have to cling on.

Craftysue · 29/01/2025 09:09

He's lucky Jeannette's husband didn't knock his lights out. I know people are concerned about keeping their jobs but I wish one of the dancers or celebrities had called him out at the time .

The system for picking celebrities needs looking at, maybe a psychological profile needs doing first. To me someone whose marriage had ended, had suffered mental health problems & contemplated suicide would probably not be the right fit for the show. To all the people knocking Wynne Evans please be mindful of what effect all this could have on his mental health now, I'm not saying what he has said & done is right but remember Caroline Flack, everyone knocked her when she was in trouble & we know how that ended.

I don't think we should accept bad behaviour just in case the perpetrator harms themself.
Its not just the sleaze, he does not seem to be a nice man for a variety of reasons and while I don't advocate online bullying or any other kind I certainly would not hesitate to comment on someone like him just because he claims to have MH issues.
MH issues are not a get out of jail free card for mens shitty behaviour

pizzaHeart · 29/01/2025 09:11

mashingwachine · 27/01/2025 14:22

The worst part of this is that Katya probably got into trouble for reacting to him on live TV, then was expected to tell people it was a joke and continue working with him as if nothing had happened. Fuck the BBC. Honestly.

Have we learned nothing Sad

I agree with this ^
I wasn’t watching Strictly this year - I don’t know if I will ever see the show in the same sight but I heard about hand moment with Katya and yesterday watched a video of it online. She wasn’t happy at all and it clearly wasn’t a joke.
I’m not surprised that these sort of behavior as WE presented still exists in real life, I’m not naive, but to think that the show producers still think that it should be covered as opposed to be challenged…. WTF???

There is no excuse for such behaviour. Mental ill health is not an acceptable excuse.

I hear what you are saying, I do. Witch hunts are also not acceptable either. If he's genuinely suffered mental health problems in the past, I agree he shouldn't be on the show.

It's fake, is what it is.
If strictly is genuinely as devoid of principle as all it's controversy suggests, then it needs to be canned.

I was horrified at the comments on the BBC article. From women too, just saying it was a joke and people should get over it. To others saying he is a BBC fall guy, not even sure what nonsense they mean by that.

It's just bizarre just dismissive of what he said 😳

I'm not blaming her for anything. I was just saying I think she is genuinely friends with him based on what she said on her Instagram last night. I don't think she would be under any pressure to defend him now that he has been thrown off the tour so I think she must genuinely like him. Which I find odd, but I'm not throwing any shade at her!

Lottapianos · 29/01/2025 09:28

I wouldn't blame Katya if she's just trying to put a million miles between herself and any accusations of being the woman who ruined some poor man's career. The women on the receiving end of this shit behaviour don't come out of it well. Too many people are determined that it can't be the man's fault no matter what

Throw shade if you want! Anyone defending him (and she's did it twice now) is part of the problem (man OR woman). I've no sympathy whatsoever for people in the showbiz industry for whom ambition overrides integrity.

Exactly. She got immense flak the first time around
So did Zara.

She is doing what she is told. Fearful for her job.

Lentilweaver · 29/01/2025 09:50

Indeed. Amanda's career may well have been destroyed because she spoke up.

I am SO done with blaming women for predatory men.

Exactly the same as eight weeks ago with Gregg Wallace, he had loads of supportive women posting about people not being able to say anything these days. Same wording too. Maybe its always the same people posting every time, wonder if they have a file of outraged responses they cut & paste every time one of these stories all too regularly appears.

CarefulN0w · 29/01/2025 10:03

It's starting to look like when the BBC select celebrities for group shows, they have to have at least one creepy bloke to be representative.

We need better standards.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 29/01/2025 11:21

Not just group shows, any show. Saville, Harris, Jenas, Edwards, Wallace, Evans and probably more that I can't currently remember. All employed by the Beeb, who each time is gobsmacked because they had no idea apparently.

Smallsalt · 29/01/2025 11:22

Fatfreefatball · 28/01/2025 19:55

@InSearchOfMartin those shows you quoted - On the Buses, Carry On films, Benny Hill - were actually funny and it was pretty harmless stuff. I know because I watched them and wasn't offended. Unfortunately, younger generations have been brainwashed into finding everything offensive. You're pretty naive if you don't realise men think about sex a lot of the time.

However, Wynne's remark was crass and misjudged, especially with the husband there. I think we are seeing the effects of Internet porn in that a term such as 'spit roast' has been normalised and entered everyday vocabularly. Online porn has had a far worse effect on men's attitudes and really does encourage misogyny. The way women are objectified in porn is revolting and there is a real nasty edge to it which wasn't there in the 70's.

People have not been brain washed to "find everything offensive".
Women have been EDUCATED that they don't have to accept every shit innuendo or misogynistic comment with a smile. They dont have to play nice to mens entitlement.

I think we know men think about sex. Big news....... so do women. This does not mean that verbal incontinence where you voice your every sexual thought to work colleagues is acceptable. Generally women are able to restrain themselves😳

You slate porn, but think a back lash against crass comments to and about female colleagues is “brainwashing"?
