Wynne Evans - another “incident” re: Strictly

Mittens67 · 27/01/2025 13:55

Have just read that Wynne had made an inappropriate remark on the Strictly Tour last month and is now taking time off his radio show.
Having rather dismissed the hand thing on Strictly this year and speculation that there were issues between him and Katya I am now having a rethink.

I wonder what the big cheeses at Go Compare are thinking right now.

They're probably thinking about claiming on their death and disgrace insurance, if they have any. It's not a good look for the Go Compare brand that people will now associate it with this sleazy s'leb.

@2025willbemytime maybe re read my post. I start by saying he is vile and I end it by saying he's the same at GW.

Of course I can bloody see it - the man is a liability. Am I absolutely up in arms about it? No. Does the need sacking? At this point, yes

I have reread your post and you're changing your stance.

BatChops · 27/01/2025 18:46

@2025willbemytime I'm not at all. You don't get to tell me what my stance is btw.

I'm clear in that this doesn't cause me to be offended on behalf of someone else and having listened to it, it's clearly a stupid comment. It's not my problem if you're hard of reading comprehension

But you froth away if that's your bag Smile

Hoppinggreen · 27/01/2025 18:49

I can't say how I know this as it was via a professional connection but it is entirely possible that his tax affairs may be set up in such as way as to screw over his ex wife.
I do not think he is a nice man in general

I've got fine reading comprehension and I don't froth. You said it has been misreported which sounds like you're saying if it was one set of circumstances it would ok and in another not. My point is there are no circumstances where saying that term is okay.

I wasn't saying what your stance was. I said you'd changed it. IMO.

There's a way to have a discussion without resorting to insults and nonsense.

rainbowruthie · 27/01/2025 19:07

Oh my life, I had no idea what 'spit roast' meant, wish I hadn't looked it up.
He really is a vile specimen

AnneShirleysNewDress · 27/01/2025 19:19

Why on earth has he been allowed to continue on the tour? The man is a disgrace. If he says things like that in a work setting and in front of everyone I can only imagine how grim he must be in private.

Sinkintotheswamp · 27/01/2025 19:21

Go Compare must have known what he's like for years. I very much doubt he started being sleazy in the last four months.

Endofyear · 27/01/2025 19:22

It was a completely unacceptable thing to say to anyone but to say it about a professional colleague in the workplace, in front of everyone (including her husband!) you've got to wonder what the hell he was thinking!! When I told DH about it, he said if that had happened in his workplace, he'd be sacked - no question. But the BBC allows him to make a feeble apology and carry on. Maybe because his new show is on tonight and they don't want to have to rejig their schedule last minute?

Mittens67 · 27/01/2025 19:29

I think if he says stuff like this in public, what on earth does he get up to in private?
I can’t believe the BBC. How stupid can they be?
It really seems that women are the bottom of their priorities.

Lyn348 · 27/01/2025 19:37

He surely can't apologise his way out of that, what an absolutely vile thing to say. The BBC proving it really doesn't give a shit about how women are treated. I thought the the Strictly stuff might be a misunderstanding - clearly not.

ThisIsMyYearToFindMyself · 27/01/2025 19:55

They don’t even look like they’re standing that close to each other so the excuse that they are is……weak.

Horrible little man.

That is pretty much word for word what was posted just over a month ago about Gregg Wallace. Considering the BBC is meant to be a bastion of British life it's really disheartening to see them turn their face away from this crap over and again.

MrWise · 27/01/2025 20:08

Oof. Just seen the footage. He clearly thinks he's funny and it's Bantz, when it's just boorish, juvenile misogyny.

mandarinchocolate · 27/01/2025 20:19

Unbearable man. Full of his own importance.
How dare he speak like that!
Come on BBC, listen to your audience and get rid of him. And any other organization that employs him should do the same.

HJ40 · 27/01/2025 20:31

Bah. Had to bloody google it too. That's just grim. And even if he didn't direct it and Janette, and even if was meant to be generally funny based on huddling together, it wasn't. There is no place for such language in any environment, and certainly not in a professional workplace.

The lechy old bastard is scheduled on BBC1 primetime tonight - some travel programme. Would be nice to see a last minute change to acknowledge the Beeb don't condone this bullshit?

I expect this is why the BBC won’t take him off the tour. Because if they do that they’ll have to take this show off too.

Im so fed up with the BBC covering up and protecting sleezy men and letting women be abused and hurt over and over again.

Radionowhere · 27/01/2025 23:38

Can't say I'm surprised. Can't warm to Katya but always felt there was more to it. He's a creep

It was shown, I saw the end of it. Should have been pulled imo.

myplace · 28/01/2025 08:25

The thing is, we live in a society where this is ‘just Bantz’ a lot of the time. Which is in itself an issue.

Where the celebs go wrong, imo- they forget they are at work, that the people around them have no choice but to be there. I can choose not to socialise with Neanderthals. When they show themselves in the workplace it’s harder to walk out.

Which is why the line has to be drawn hard, imo. Everyone within earshot was exposed to sleaze they had no way of avoiding. They were stuck working with him.

But I can understand why celebs might forget they are at work. People are probably molly coddling them and making sure they are having fun.

Wallacewhite · 28/01/2025 08:48

That comment in any professional context is completely unacceptable but the way he says it to the other man, over the woman's head is disgusting and deeply, deeply misogynistic. The fella he said it to clearly needs some kind assertiveness or bystander training too given he didn't challenge Wynne in the moment.

I had a sexually explicit/ sexually violent comment made about me in a professional setting and it surprised me how much it floored me. It's as if all your professional achievements, accolades and the gravitas that you think are your 'armour' are revealed to just be a thin veil that some disgusting man can whip away in a split second leaving you feeling naked and exposed.

Tissuesandfluff · 28/01/2025 09:07

Wallacewhite I'm sorry that happened to you, reducing women to nothing but an object is horrific I still don't understand why he thought it was "hilarious " or "banter".

Fooshufflewickjbannanapants · 27/01/2025 14:18

It was something about a spit roast

That's not inappropriate. That's revolting. Imagine being the woman he was talking about.

Doloresparton · 28/01/2025 09:38

He was recently promoting a programme with Joanna Page on The One Show. They appear to be great friends and I thought how can you stand working with him?
