Wynne Evans - another “incident” re: Strictly

Mittens67 · 27/01/2025 13:55

Have just read that Wynne had made an inappropriate remark on the Strictly Tour last month and is now taking time off his radio show.
Having rather dismissed the hand thing on Strictly this year and speculation that there were issues between him and Katya I am now having a rethink.

This week I saw a Rag Mag from my old university, I left in 2012, this mag was from the mid-70s and had a whole load of terrible jokes at women's expense, naked women cartoons, some were racist as well as misogynistic. Poking fun at the cleaners, depicting them as Hilda Ogden smoking themselves stupid. I am dismayed it is still going on in some form or other.

I mean, its grim but I watched it and it really isn't quite what's being reported

They appear to be squeezing in for a photo or whatever and he moves slightly and says 'ha, spit roast!' - presumably at being so close together

No one complained and it was just a stupid comment. He didn't say ' god I really want to spit roast you!'

However having said all that, this is a bloke who must know he's skating on thin ice and he should know better tbh. Does it hint at someone of the same ilk if gregg Wallace etc? Yes probably

You don't think it's odd that a gross sexual comment like that was his first thought rather than, say, sardines in a can?!!!

Confused
myplace · 28/01/2025 15:09

@BatChops why should anyone need to hear spitroast at work, just because it crossed a sleaze all’s mind?

It’s like saying ‘boobies’ whenever you see a woman. It doesn’t have to be a proposition to be inappropriate.

They need big signboards scattered around saying “THIS IS A WORKPLACE. BE PROFESSIONAL.”

Binman · 28/01/2025 15:14

I bet Katya is relieved and I dread to imagine the "banter" between him and GW on MC.

ChristmasPudd1990 · 28/01/2025 15:33

Hopefully that's the last of him on those annoying Go compare adverts 👍

I can't say how I know this as it was via a professional connection but it is entirely possible that his tax affairs may be set up in such as way as to screw over his ex wife.
I do not think he is a nice man in general

Likewise, I can’t say how I know for professional reasons, but the ‘woe is me’ stories he’s given about being destitute and his kids sleeping in tents are absolutely untrue.

The truth is, he bought a large detached house in a nice area, and redecorated it. That’s it. No tents or destitution.
Plus his kids lived mostly with their mum - their choice.

itsjustbiology · 28/01/2025 17:05

The BBC is not fit for purpose, again a member of their Talent pool has shown themselves to be less than .. Sack him off everything.

Tissuesandfluff · 28/01/2025 17:21

He said his kids lived in tents?

Watched it last night, and I'm afraid you now watch him on the alert for anything sleazy he might say, any signs of crossing a line...

He was clearly seasick, which may have toned him down a bit. It was also a rather dull programme because the producers had clearly put it together thinking their repartee and camaraderie would make a programme, but it was just going from one place to another and shrieking (Page) and making sad, seasick pronouncements (Evans). No enjoyment or information or, indeed, point was conveyed to the viewer.

I wonder if GoCompare have a clause in his contract about not bringing disrepute on the company? I wouldn't want to be his agent this month...

At least you'd never get this with those meerkats!

Oh I caught some of this show and it was dreadful. Just Joanna Page constantly shrieking at every little thing, and so inarticulate. What is even the point of the show?

Same with that one with Alison Hammond and her son/nephew? Lots of shrieking, gurning at the camera and followed by inarticulate ramblings.

It really is dross TV pitched at the very lowest intellectual denominator.

Mum thinks it’s the best thing she’s ever seen.
She lives in the area, so…

Tissuesandfluff · 28/01/2025 18:19

That's Alison Hammonds son I think she's trying to launch a career for him, like bradley walsh and his son.

I like AH she's unapologetically loud and gregarious , something I admire because I'm quiet and introverted I love her confidence.

Fatfreefatball · 28/01/2025 19:55

@InSearchOfMartin those shows you quoted - On the Buses, Carry On films, Benny Hill - were actually funny and it was pretty harmless stuff. I know because I watched them and wasn't offended. Unfortunately, younger generations have been brainwashed into finding everything offensive. You're pretty naive if you don't realise men think about sex a lot of the time.

However, Wynne's remark was crass and misjudged, especially with the husband there. I think we are seeing the effects of Internet porn in that a term such as 'spit roast' has been normalised and entered everyday vocabularly. Online porn has had a far worse effect on men's attitudes and really does encourage misogyny. The way women are objectified in porn is revolting and there is a real nasty edge to it which wasn't there in the 70's.

🤢 I had a similarly unpleasant thought. Still won't be surprised if TPTB and John Torode claim to have seen/heard nowt 🙄.

Blindedu · 28/01/2025 20:22

Is he the go compare man?!

He is, yes.

Maddy70 · 28/01/2025 21:23

What he said was disgusting and I'm far from a prude

Motharunner · 28/01/2025 21:37

I'm so disappointed to see this, I met him in real life, and he was genuinely lovely.

I can usually spot a red flag on meeting men for the first time, but he was honestly just so down to earth, funny and helpful! Not at all sleazy, and I have met sleazy male celebs. Looking at you Prince Andrew, as soon as he walked in the room I knew he was a creep, and that was years ago.

This comment is unacceptable, and the fact he said it publicly just beggars belief!

LizzieSiddal · 28/01/2025 21:45

I hope Janette is ok and Kataya. They shouldn’t have to put up with this in a work environment but they know if they made a complaint they’d be off the show. The BBc need to sort themselves out once and for all.

AllFurCoatAndFrillyKnickers · 28/01/2025 23:51

He is taking time out to prioritise his well-being. Usually it's to protect their mental health after they have been caught out over unacceptable behaviour.

Nat6999 · 29/01/2025 00:18

The system for picking celebrities needs looking at, maybe a psychological profile needs doing first. To me someone whose marriage had ended, had suffered mental health problems & contemplated suicide would probably not be the right fit for the show. To all the people knocking Wynne Evans please be mindful of what effect all this could have on his mental health now, I'm not saying what he has said & done is right but remember Caroline Flack, everyone knocked her when she was in trouble & we know how that ended.

Tissuesandfluff · 29/01/2025 08:30

What about Janette Manrara what about her well being and mental health? I think this thread is well balanced we are just wondering what posessed a man to say "it's a spit roast" to another male contestant why was that the first thing that popped into his head to degrade the woman. Standing next to him?

I'm glad he's stepping away for "self reflection" he needs to do better, and rein his sexual thoughts, language in.

Tissuesandfluff · 29/01/2025 08:35

Reading some article comments there,
is loads of support for him, everyone is too woke and sensitive apparently, it was a joke banter the list goes on.

I was horrified at the comments on the BBC article. From women too, just saying it was a joke and people should get over it. To others saying he is a BBC fall guy, not even sure what nonsense they mean by that.

ladyflower23 · 29/01/2025 08:53

When I saw the sliding hand and Katya's face I felt really sorry for her being stuck with him and wondered how she was putting up with him, but she was openly supporting him on Instagram last night so seems they are genuinely friends and she likes him. Bizarrely.

SassK · 29/01/2025 08:54

I can't believe strictly hasn't been canned.

It's been exposed, on several occasions now, to not be the one big happy family show it's sold as. The dancers who've been removed for bullying their partners, and the dancers who're willing to ignore and dismiss blatant sleaze (it seems clear now that the wandering hand clip wasn't a private joke), show how ruthless it all is. Ignoring/excusing shit like that makes you part of the problem.
