its one of those things where that is great advice if you can do it!

Exactly. I've not been able to do it since I was 16.

mossylog · 23/01/2025 17:31

I can't whistle while exhaling, I can only do it inhaling.

I can't scream. I am a freezer/underreactor anyway but only realised I couldn't scream when I was in a play in which it was required. I really tried hard to practise in private but all that I could manage was a low growl.

I can't do it by choice or on cue. When I have done it in genuine shock it has given me a massively sore throat. If I try all I can mange is a squeak.

fingertraps · 23/01/2025 17:33

BuzzieLittleBee · 23/01/2025 17:12

Yes! That's the 'right' way to do it, according to...
Bravissimo, who have a vested interest in making sure you wear a bra properly (many people don't)
A radiographer friend who spends her life looking at breast tissue and says twisting bras around under your boobs isn't a good thing
A physio friend who says doing a bra up behind you is excellent for keeping a good range of mobility in your joints, and manual dexterity.

Well, I’m another one who just can’t do it!

the80sweregreat · 23/01/2025 17:36

I struggle with items of clothing that have hooks that are intertwined ( such as on bikini tops )
I end up in a twisted mess

MifsBr0wn · 23/01/2025 17:40

Golf. It never goes where I'm trying to send it. It's so frustrating.

EmeraldDreams73 · 23/01/2025 17:40

I can't turn the right way out of shops! Always forget where I am. Terrible sense of direction in general.

Go under water without holding my nose. Can't dive or do front crawl, but I'm fine at the other (basic) strokes.

ElderLemon · 23/01/2025 17:45

Hoochyvida · 23/01/2025 12:56

I can't dive either. My dad taught my other siblings no problem, I just can't do it. I used to do a bomb jump into pools, now I'm a grown up I do the walk down the steps. It's very dull.

I can't knit. At all. I even bought knitting for dummies. Still couldn't do it.

I can't use those big printers/photocopier machines. I just can't get my head around them.

I struggle with excel. I can do simple things but no one seems to be able to show me what it's capable of. I've been on courses, read books but I just want to be shown what I can use it for.

I also can't follow aerobics or dance sequences.

Also can't knit. When I gave up smoking I took an evening class, bought expensive wool, just couldn't learn, no matter how hard myself and the teacher tried

the80sweregreat · 23/01/2025 17:45

My sense of direction is so bad it's legendary!
I have learnt to do landmarks and sat nav is a god send, but I have been lost on more than one occasion!

EmeraldDreams73 · 23/01/2025 17:47

fingertraps · 23/01/2025 16:12

Are there people who do their bra up from behind? Mind blown.

I can do this! Both my dds still twizzle it round though.

dynamiccactus · 23/01/2025 17:50

lopyrs · 23/01/2025 13:35

I can't do up my bra from behind. I have to do it at the front and rotate it around to the back. I've always done it this way, and when I try to do it the grown up way I just can't 😩

I am the same.

That has sparked many a discussion on MN (not with me personally but I have read them). Although now I have a few (sports bras particularly) that I put over my head like a crop top.

I can't whistle with fingers in my mouth and I have to blow my nose one nostril at a time. And I have to swim with a nose clip.

ImWearingPantaloons · 23/01/2025 16:15

I can't read music either. Just dots on some lines....

I have just started to teach myself to play the piano again. I have a bit of muscle memory but have forgotten most of it. So I started from the very beginning of my piano lessons book one :)

I have no idea what I am doing with the bass clef. I can read the treble clef ok.

I was never that good at reading music and once I knew a piece used to play it from ear.

Auburngal · 23/01/2025 15:36

I’ve not reversed into a car park space since passing my test.

Ditto. I've tried a couple of times but I'm just not going to bother now.

Staffyneedinghome · 23/01/2025 17:53

TheYearOfSmallThings · 23/01/2025 12:19

I can't belch Sad

I would go private and pay good money for Belch Enablement surgery, I can tell you.

I can, but very, very VERY rarely. Could probably count on two hands the number of times I have burped. It's odd. Is it a thing? Can some people just not do it?

dynamiccactus · 23/01/2025 17:53

BusySittingDown · 23/01/2025 13:54

I can't roll my Rs, which is a nightmare for learning Spanish.

Me neither, I can't pronounce the R correctly in any language other than non rhotic English Grin

EggandStress · 23/01/2025 17:55

I do my bra up from behind @fingertraps Well at least I used to. I have a rotator cuff problem at the moment. My goal with the physio is to be able to do my own bra up again.

jotex · 23/01/2025 18:02

I was 20 when I learned how to tie my shoelaces.

+1 for being unable to roll my Rs…a nightmare for someone living in Italy and having to speak Italian!

Iloveyoubut · 23/01/2025 18:05

I can’t swim.
When I want to say green I say blue and when I want to say blue I say green. I’ve learned to correct it to the point I say gree’blue and blu’green.
I also cannot recover from having my heart broken and I can’t dance for too long without losing my balance. I know… I’m killing it at life. 😂

EggandStress · 23/01/2025 17:53

Two the both of you, this has actually given me the confidence to get driving lessons again because I’ve suddenly realised I won’t have to do this in real life! Thank you!

mossylog · 23/01/2025 17:31

How many people read that then tried it! 😂

Auburngal · 23/01/2025 18:10

Thread a needle. Then when I manage to do it, the thread falls out after 2 stitches. I can blame my eyesight now as thread too small to tie a knot.

4dcsExhaustedMuma · 23/01/2025 18:11

Swim
Whistle

I never knew anyone else who had this until now!
For me it's orange and green. I don't do it any more, I think it was a problem until I was in my thirties. It was just like my brain short-circuited when I first learnt the colours, and it took decades to fix.

Kneeboobs · 23/01/2025 18:23

I can't click fingers, whistle, dive, drive, knit crochet or speak another language.
But i can change a plug, change a barrel in a door lock and a barrel of beer, pull a pint and change a tyre though.

LaurieFairyCake · 23/01/2025 18:27

Can't open jars anymore

It really fucking hurts
