I can’t click

I’m another can’t burper! 🙋‍♀️

Auburngal · 23/01/2025 21:06

The Star Trek Vulcan salute - the one where there is a gap between middle and 4th fingers.

I also can't do those MENSA puzzles where you have to decide which picture is the given shape rotated through, say, 90 degrees.
Me neither. How are you at driving? I hate it because I find it really hard to tell where cars are coming from when I look in my mirrors. I think it is related!

I don't drive - I dare not!

Soubriquet · 23/01/2025 22:15

I can’t drive either. I did try to learn when I was a teen, but to be honest, I get distracted so easily it’s probably a good thing I don’t drive

I do have AuDHD though

I can't wiggle my toes properly or separate them. I can just about move them up and down but all in one go, so I can't for example just raise my big toe by itself. Been that way since I was a kid. I remember for some reason needing a plaster on my toe at primary school and the school nurse was really surprised I couldn't do any of that.

Wait what?
I can't move/wiggle my toes separately either. I just always assumed everyone was like that!

Can't open jars anymore

It really fucking hurts

Just tap the lid hard on the work surface, they come open really easily once the pressure has been released.

WilfredsPies · 23/01/2025 22:35

TheYearOfSmallThings · 23/01/2025 12:19

I can't belch Sad

I would go private and pay good money for Belch Enablement surgery, I can tell you.

My step brother taught me how to burp on command when I was around 13 or 14. I still remember how proud of myself I was when I did it for the first time. My mum wasn’t quite as impressed though. And I can still do it.

I can’t swim. If I go underwater I can’t open my eyes or not hold my nose. I can’t crochet (have tried so many different ways of learning, but I can knit). I can’t roll
my Rs (spectacularly unhelpful being married to a Welshman). And I lose the ability to tell my left from my right the second anyone puts me under pressure.

I can peel a banana with my toes. They are also freakishly strong. I’m a bit weirded out that there are people who can’t move their toes independently.

Also can't knit. When I gave up smoking I took an evening class, bought expensive wool, just couldn't learn, no matter how hard myself and the teacher tried

Have you tried German knitting?

Wait what?
I can't move/wiggle my toes separately either. I just always assumed everyone was like that!

I can pick things up with my feet. If I spill a liquid on the floor I drop a cloth over it, use my foot to move it then pick it up, bend my knee so my foot is under my bum and take hold of the cloth in my hand.

My carer calls it, "crazy monkey feet", I can crack them as well.

JanglingJack · 24/01/2025 04:14

Open a blummin black bin bag.

KohlaParasaurus · 24/01/2025 04:26

Make good scrambled eggs.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 24/01/2025 06:57

Poach eggs

Drive video games.
I can drive a car totally competently, but driving computer games baffle me. We're not talking about these.

the80sweregreat · 24/01/2025 07:08

What helped me with the left and right was when I started wearing a wedding ring as that was my left hand. I do have to check sometimes, but it definitely has helped ( plus I wear my watch on my left wrist )
( of course , any ring would have done, but I'm not into wearing jewellery much)

Prf · 24/01/2025 07:58

I can't wink.

haveyouopenedyourbowelstoday · 24/01/2025 08:04

Whistle
Remember numbers
Play chess
Knit or crochet although I can thread a needle
Skate (ice or roller)

godmum56 · 23/01/2025 13:10

I can't swim because I sink. I can't crochet.

I'm the other way...I float too well so trying to swim underwater or dive to bottom of pool is really hard for me!

ParksidePen · 24/01/2025 10:48

I thought of another one. Those recaptcha forms
where you have to verify you're human by filling in letters and numbers, I can never ever read them properly! I always get them wrong.

ACatAsleepInYourHat · 23/01/2025 12:20

Plaiting/braiding hair. Just can't seem to grasp it at all.

Isn't it strange how something relatively easy for some people, just doesn't process in others at all!

I get random "blind spots" mainly with tech/screens. It is helpful to know there are other people that can't do random stuff.

Great thread OP Also glad to find I am not the only one who can't blow up a balloon.

BlackeyedSusan · 24/01/2025 11:17

lopyrs · 23/01/2025 14:24

I do that too! If I’ve just had a shower (and now dry) I find it impossible to twist it round though, (so now have to stick a cloth under the back strap to help it swivel round).

Yes, post swimming is the worst!

Swivel it round lower down near your waist. Once it is round the right way pull it up.

Fellow bra Swiveller!

Also I can't vision things like how to decorate, what style to dress.
I just can't

I’ve tried to put mood boards together but it just turns in to an ‘eclectic’ mess. I can't make up my mind what colours or styles I like. I don’t know where to start. My house has no style, it’s just furniture placed in the usual places.

BunnyLake · 24/01/2025 11:37

Can't open jars anymore

It really fucking hurts

I use a vegetable peeler. The type that has a handle and a pointy blade. I find the bit of the lid that curves slightly and put the point of the peeler under it and gently push it up. You can hear a pop and the lid opens easily.

Hope that’s not too confusing an explanation but it works 100% of the time for me.

dynamiccactus · 24/01/2025 12:37

Seeing the comment about jars made me think of a similar one: getting the sellotape off tins of sweets.

I get a magnifying glass out to see exactly where the sellotape starts and ends. It shreds and it takes me a good 5 minutes to open the tin.

I know it's better for me and my teeth if I don't eat them.

But am I just missing a really obvious trick?

They should be banned.

My fingers are crap on touch screens! It's bloody essential for life these days, I can't even call the lift at work.

I've got the same problem. People look at me like I'm an alien - perhaps I am. It's so strange and really frustrating. Any ideas why it won't work for us?
