Just finished building a stupid trike and wrapped the last of the presents. I'm not doing dinner but my contributions dishes are sorted.

Just now got to clean up and ive ran out of steam.

Say it every year but I really need to be better organised. I normally like wrapping presents on Xmas eve when kids are in bed but I'm getting too old for this 🤦‍♀️

That used ro me until I had a brain wave. I bought two identical stockings for each child. I filled one up and hid it a few days before Christmas. Then just swapped them over.

That's genius!!

WearyAuldWumman · 25/12/2024 01:47

Agreed.

Back in the '60s, my mum used to put the presents from Santa inside a pillowcase - or staged outside if (like a blackboard and easel) they were too big for the pillowcase. In those days, we didn't normally have special Christmas stockings, so Dad's work socks were used!

Same here

I was woken up about 1.30am by DS 23 coming home from Xmas night out. He's still clanging around downstairs and I need to put the stockings out! May need to set the alarm for 4am...

Put the alarm clock under his pillow😃

I am def part of the "those oral on Christmas Eve " and I'm not proud of myself for it lol

Elphamouche · 25/12/2024 03:14

I’m finally in bed!! DH is doing my presents now. Looks like it’ll be 4.5hrs sleep if the baby sleeps through and I fall asleep in the next 16mins. At relatives for 10am tomorrow so all a rush!

ShinyWellies · 25/12/2024 03:15

@Thatcastlethere @oakleaffy

New territory for us as both DC have always been fab sleepers.

Has been trying he says but can't sleep. We've shut his door and just having to get on , worried the very obvious noises will ruin the magic but at 3.15am we're hitting a wall! DC2 will be up in a few hours!

sunflowersngunpowdr · 25/12/2024 03:16

I just watched the jason bourne trilogy - well the first and third because I couldn't find the second dvd. Love those movies, worth losing the sleep.

Lillixyng · 25/12/2024 03:21

I love the fact that a whole army of women are still awake in the small hours to give their families a wonderful Christmas. Sleep tight everyone and hope you have a lovely day tomorrow.

glittereyelash · 25/12/2024 03:21

Yep. It's been a very rough few days. Staying up to have a little cry before my chap wakes up. Il have my Christmas face ready by then.

Armychefbethebest · 25/12/2024 03:22

Me and DH has got a really nasty virus and he is is 2 days further on and is very poorly, we hosted 12 Today for our xmas eve dinner always done it then xmas day is all relaxing, we just about did it but I was washing my hands every 2 minutes and kept well out of the way as 1 of our guests is immune compromised so really didn't wasn't her getting I'll.
Everyone had gone by 6 and me and Dh went to bed , my 17 and 15 year old just chilled thankfully they are OK for now. I woke up at 1am DH has taken himself off to spare room , I got up and sorted all the presents into piles as my older 2 and my dgd will also spend time her tomorrow, after presents I'll make a fry up and then everyone should be OK till late on. I'll probably need another sleep by then. Whatever it is has knocked us clean on our arse 🙄

Lellamir · 25/12/2024 03:26

I wrapped everything, as it arrived, as everything has had to be bought online this year, due to my recent surgery, and being unable to get about.
So, I had nothing to do, and just one teen, who will likely not wake up early.
Yet, here I am. Awake. Because I ate too much dinner, and have bellyache! I am so, so bored. And I have nothing in the house, for indigestion. No Rennies etc. Any ideas? I'm currently drinking squash, which eased it a bit, but only for a few seconds. Gah. Why did I eat so much cauliflower?

That is appallingly selfish that you hosted (and so many people, too) when you were both poorly with a contagious virus. No amount of handwashing and 'staying out of the way' prevents virus spread when groups of people gather in a home of any size. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

VegTrug · 25/12/2024 03:27

@Armychefbethebest You've just put that immunocompromised guest's life at risk

AlpacalypseLlamaggedon · 25/12/2024 03:27

Teen DC came down at midnight to open the stockings and ended up staying up for a bit chatting.

Everyone has now gone to bed but I'm still awake. Contemplating staying up a bit longer to start the beef off in the slow cooker TBH.

TartTartin · 25/12/2024 03:29

I declared to my husband, daughter that I did not want any Christmas present this year, but buy me gifts when we move to a new house in February (hopefully). Having said that, I wonder if I get any token gifts..... My turkey is ready to go to the oven at 10am!

sweetydahling · 25/12/2024 03:29

I'm up binging Gavin & Stacey before the finale tomorrow. Tidy.

TartTartin · 25/12/2024 03:30

OMG, I fogot to fill my daugter's stocking!

windysocks · 25/12/2024 03:30

Merry Christmas to everyone who is up! I'm on day 11 of a horrible flu virus thing. Hosted family today and went to bed with a horrendous headache at 8.30. Just woke up and did stockings for DS & DD. Hope to start to feel better tomorrow 🤞

NeedSleepNow · 25/12/2024 03:34

I'm finally off to bed after wrapping every single santa present for 3 children, cooking a ham, prepping the veg and tidying up etc ready for tomorrow. I'm a single parent so have no one to help with it so had to stay up late. I'm now in bed but wide awake and my youngest is likely to be up at 6ish. My ex is then coming over at 9 to see the kids which is not how I want to start Christmas day but hopefully he won't stay too long. Can't wait to put a film on for the kids in the afternoon tomorrow and have a nap on the sofa!

DappledThings · 25/12/2024 01:45

Never heard of anyone wrapping on Christmas Eve until MN last year. Can't get my head round that one.

It doesn't seem like a good plan! What if you're struck down with flu or something?!

Everyone one was aware and made the decision to come thanks , we wore masks we were next to the open kitchen door everything had been disinfected and she was at the other side of the the house no that I need to explain myself to you so kindly fuck off merry Christmas

thefairytaleofnewyork · 25/12/2024 03:40

It's 3.40am and I'm off to bed!

Threeboystwocatsandadog · 25/12/2024 03:43

I’m still awake - and I took a sleeping tablet at midnight! My ds2 and ddil are driving 3 hours south for Christmas dinner and home on Boxing Day. The road is notorious for accidents and I can’t help worrying. I know I have to get a grip and hope they enjoy themselves and I will, but ….!

Ddog has just got me up to let him out for a pee. Dgrandog is staying over tomorrow so that will be extra fun. Sorry to those that are feeling unwell at the moment. I’ve had two previous Christmas’ like that and it’s the worst. Hope you all get a sleep soon.

Happy Christmas 🎄

Trainstrike · 25/12/2024 03:51

My primary children both woke at 2.30am and asked to open stockings 😭 one of them is still wide awake so looks like my day is already going to be long and tiring!

frozendaisy · 25/12/2024 03:52

Will have to function on coffee tomorrow
