Just finished building a stupid trike and wrapped the last of the presents. I'm not doing dinner but my contributions dishes are sorted.

Just now got to clean up and ive ran out of steam.

Say it every year but I really need to be better organised. I normally like wrapping presents on Xmas eve when kids are in bed but I'm getting too old for this 🤦‍♀️

Wide awake here with no presents under the tree and still some wrapping to do but DS6 has been awake in bed since 7.45pm and is wide awake.

Gifts in spare room right next to his bedroom and every time we move he is shouting and crying.

Really loosing our patience now mind as we are beyond shattered and have so much to do!

Oh wow that does sound hard. I should count my lucky stars mine are actually asleep.. I hope he falks asleep for you soon

I'm.awake as I had two glasses of wine and now have a headache.
The Christmas that Wilf was two his Dad decided to put his ELC tractor and trailer together at 8pm on Christmas Eve. The instructions for some unfathomable reason were in French.
At 10pm I cautiously opened the dining room door.
"How are you getting on darling?
" DO YOU WANT TO DO IT??? "
" Errrrr.nooooo!"
"WELL BUGGER OFF THEN!!"
I went to bed. It was nearly midnight when he came up.
Matters were not improved the next day when Wilf wanted the large empty box rather than the tractor!!! 🙊 🙊 🙊 🙊 🙊 🙊 🙊 🙊

Haha. This is so funny.

Why the he'll do they make them so difficult.

I had one part that just didn't make sense. Got there in the end but lost the will to live in the process.

I wish I had a DH that would do it for me but no the man went to bed at 9 without a care in the world. He's definitely had a good sleep.

I've finally cleaned up.

Finishing my drink then heading for bed. Hoping for at least 5 hours sleep.

Can get excited now.

Merry Christmas everyone.

I hope you all have a fabulous day 💜

Just managed to place the stocking.DH has been asleep since midnight and was not amused to clock how long the last job has taken. Why are both my boys such light sleepers?? Lord knows I'm not if I'm ever allowed to sleep!

I’m still awake. I’ve been googling how to cook the ham and have come to the conclusion that I should’ve cooked it today 🤦‍♀️

The ham was one of my jobs. I was worried about cooking it today tbh as thought might dry out.

I boiled it for 20 min with some carrots and onions and then cooked in the oven for about 50 min. I'm just hoping for the best.

Yeah whilst my husband sleeps soundly after acting absolutely put upon after doing a bit of washing up and bring two presents downstairs.
Went to an evening carol concert.. DHs face like a slapped arse 90% of the time. Stood in silence. Perked up a bit when I bought him takeaway... only to get in an arse when I asked him to do the washing up..
I have infected sores on my hands BTW and am on antibiotics and topical steroids..
Yet he still didn't complete the washing up. His version of doing the washing up is doing 80% of it then leaving a bunch of stuff on the draining board and in the sink. So I had to do the rest of it anyway.
Put the rest of the presents out.. am just waiting to go fill the stockings. I have 3 kids.. two primary aged and one 9month old. I've also got a cold.
I can hear him happily snoring away.
And I'll be labelled the grumpy one for being tired in the morning.

Omg why do they get more miserable the older they get.

I was thinking today as he was complaining again I'm going to leave it all to him next year but then the kids would get naf all and I just couldn't let that happen. So again it will all fall on me without an ounce of appreciation for the work that actually goes into it.

Still up. Drank a bit too much this evening plus had to wait up to 2 am to deposit stockings. But now I’m just standing in the bedroom scrolling through Mumsnet instead of sensibly getting into bed….

I just woke up and crept downstairs to fill stockings/put gifts under the tree and found young adult DC has filled my Christmas stocking, all our stockings go out as decorations when we put the tree up.
It’s our first Christmas since DH died, he always filled my stocking so I expected mine to stay empty, so now I can’t go to sleep as I’m all emotional 😢
Happy Christmas everyone 🎄

Aww that's so sweet.

So sorry for your loss xx

I have insomnia and it's very annoying. It's also a bit worrying as it sometimes means my autoimmune disease is flaring. If I can't sleep soon I'll probably cave in and take a sleeping tablet, which I hate. I've only needed one so far in 2024 so I'm being very precious not taking one!

DappledThings · 25/12/2024 01:45

Never heard of anyone wrapping on Christmas Eve until MN last year. Can't get my head round that one.

There are two types of people in this world.

Those who are organised and those who wrap on Christmas eve 🤣

I’m awake. Only because DS19 has just gone to bed and woke me up. Oh no, I hope he didn’t see Father Christmas 🎅🏻! Those days went so fast. I still can’t believe DS17 saw his pile of 2 presents before he went to bed. He was shaking a packet to guess what it was. Chocolate reindeers: not exciting at all when you are 17. 😂
With regard to the wrapping, I wrapped things at 5pm today with DS17 in the room and he didn’t even notice. On Christmas Eve I said I was going ito deliver some cards and he asked me “Oh is is today?” No, no one actually does cards in Christmas Day kiddo.

Lillixyng · 25/12/2024 02:37

I do not know why but I a never sleep on Christmas Eve. I am well into my retirement years and have nothing to do tomorrow except go to DDs. Still a big kid I suppose.

Yep, can't sleep here either. Just got up and loaded the dishwasher instead...

Thatcastlethere · 25/12/2024 02:41

Omg I totally jinxed it and my 6yo has just woken up! Asking for a drink. Luckily I hadn't done her stocking.. was just about to.. so I convinced her santa hadn't been yet abd she needed to go back to sleep.
I don't dare go back in there to fill her stocking now so looks like I'll be awake a while yet ffs

caringcarer · 25/12/2024 02:43

I've finally finished my wrapping and can go to bed. I'm a night person and terrible in the mornings. DH is the opposite he falls asleep if he tries to stay up but is great early in the morning. DH is getting up at 5am to wrap up my gifts and then finish the cleaning before we head off to adult DS1 for Xmas, then on to MiL for Boxing day before rushing back home to host on the 27th. Hence DH having to get up to clean at the crack of dawn.

ZippyCat · 25/12/2024 02:43

Up now fell asleep earlier now can't drop back off no children to get up for May well end up staying up now until my alarm anyway now I suffer insomnia so nights are a nuisance for me at the best of times

Seagullproofoldbag · 25/12/2024 02:47

Is this silly enough? I've never been so disorganised. All done now , but ridiculously late.

HollyKnight · 25/12/2024 02:49

I have man flu. Can't stop coughing. I miss the days when people wore masks instead of spreading their viruses around Tesco without a care in the world.

Cudz · 25/12/2024 02:52

Me! I was planning on putting the gammon on high in the slow cooker for a few hours at about 8am but i can't sleep so i have been laying awake googling and it seems that putting it on the low setting but for a longer time seems to make the meat nicer so I've just crept down now to sort that. At least ds didnt hear me creeping around. Now I'm back to being wide awake again so im back to the scrolling!!!

MissDicey · 25/12/2024 02:53

I've consumed a wee bottle of whiskey and I've work in the morning so getting the water into me haha. Happy Christmas

EmpressaurusKitty · 25/12/2024 02:56

I woke myself up coughing & I’m having a Lemsip, then staying up for a bit until I’m sure it’s kicked in.

The cat’s very confused & is wandering about complaining about the disruption to her routine.

Thatcastlethere · 25/12/2024 02:59

In other news I've just thrown a bunch of my husbands clothes in the bin because he left them near the tree and it's given me the rage
He often just puts the pile of clothes he wants to wear in a random place downstairs.. today it has been in the corner of the living room next to the tree where the presents go.
I've been putting out the presents abd I just saw red and chucked the pile in the bin.
Which was ott abd I regret it now but there we go. I'm not fishing them back out. He can do that. He's had a lovely nights sleep after all.

Lillixyng · 25/12/2024 02:59

Accidentallyrude · 25/12/2024 01:30

Children still bloody awake! I've had to set an alarm for 4am to do stockings.

That used ro me until I had a brain wave. I bought two identical stockings for each child. I filled one up and hid it a few days before Christmas. Then just swapped them over.
