The midnight cuppa

Themidnightcuppa · 09/12/2024 00:45

Went to bed at 9.30pm and woke at midnight, just me here tonight so I can do as I please so it’s tea and toast and a scroll.

this is becoming a bit of a habit waking up for a cuppa, a scroll, and then going back to bed, am I the only one?

I read about that sometime before, it’s jolly interesting, sometimes when I wake up I have a cuppa and do a job, my life is a lot lonely at the moment as DH has been in hospital for weeks, that probably doesn’t help, normally I’d sneak off quietly for a cuppa and then creep back to bed. Having the house to myself I can do as I please.

Hope your DH gets well soon, but your two sleeps habit sounds really nice and medieval! I tend just to go to bed too late and miss the first sleep. But I always have the house to myself, well, just me and the cat.

I don’t think I’ll urinate on the fire but I might start brewing something, actually I’ve some chicken I think I’ll marinate, then I might wrap a couple of Christmas presents. Hopefully after that I’ll be ready to go for my second sleep.

Cuppa at midnight will keep you awake

(Baby not partaking of the tea)

My dog had to go to friends as I can be out of the house up to 7 hours with travelling and being at the hospita. I went to see him yesterday and he was ecstatic to see me but after two minutes was following my friend around and ignoring me.

Strangely it doesn’t, I like a full on dose of caffeine, my body finds it comforting for some strange reason. I’ve tried to kick the toast though.

I have a poorly child in my lap and a cuppa beside me. I tend to wake for a while during the night when life gets a bit stressful. Although tonight I haven't been to sleep yet as I was sorting of waiting for her to wake needing me. Annoyingly DH is a very light sleeper and I can't potter about doing little jobs. However tonight poorly child means we can be noisy if we want.

Craftymam · 09/12/2024 01:04

That is fascinating about the two sleep! I have been exhausted recently so have been doing this by accidental falling asleep at 8, waking up about 10/11, and then now just sitting about. I will go back to sleep in the next hour or so and probably wake up again about 10.

Many moons ago when my DC was a newborn her dad worked away so I slept when she slept etc, I did a lot of jobs during the night, we had neighbours at the back who’d worked odd hours and would wave at me and sometimes pop in for a cuppa at 2am.

hope poorly child is soon better

I loved it as a kid but find it too sweet these days.

Me and OH propped up in bed having a cup of tea.

I woke up as I needed painkillers as I'm post surgery, OH was downstairs watching kitten videos on YouTube 🤣🤣 as couldn't sleep as I was snoring (sorry!!!).

I made us tea and we've come back to bed.

I hope the surgery went well and the cuppa is comforting. I can’t remember the last time I had a cuppa in bed. Years ago when DH was well he’d bring me one in the morning and pull back the curtains and the nets and I’d look out the windows and watch the birds on the roofs of the houses opposite.

I'm in my mid-60s and I've regressed! I've only started drinking it again recently.

TrippTover · 09/12/2024 01:18

I’m up too, can’t sleep for some reason. Phone isn’t helping but I keep getting ideas I need to write down. I’d go down for a ‘sleep’ tea (twinings) but I’m lazy and also scared of the dark. Just wrote a pretty good poem though.

Oh and I mean to say I hope your husband is well again soon.

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 09/12/2024 01:19

I read about the 2 sleeps thing in a book by Lucy Worsley.

I'm not in bed yet. I regret it every morning but always go to bed too late.

This is a wonderfully calming thread, like the R4 shipping forecast.

And tonight’s forecast

all now calm now in Dover, the chickens done, two gifts wrapped, night night

It's been a few years since I could go to sleep and not wake until 7 or 8 hours later. I now have two sleeps every night! Waking up after a couple of hours is annoying but nothing I can do about it. I'm lucky I don't have to get up early so manage to get enough shut eye. It may be an age thing (am over 60) 🙄
