Went to bed at 9.30pm and woke at midnight, just me here tonight so I can do as I please so it’s tea and toast and a scroll.

this is becoming a bit of a habit waking up for a cuppa, a scroll, and then going back to bed, am I the only one?

The 3.30am cuppa. Was hoping for an uneventful night but the day’s shenanigans have caught up with the brain. DDog and I are in quiet reflection and I'm enjoying the peace of the darkness of night.

a dear friend came today and gave me potted daffodils and a notebook which I’ve already been scribbling in. Over the years id composed a fictional story in my head that I used to make up when I had trouble getting to sleep and im wondering if I can get it down on paper. My friends two sons are both just published and Im thinking why not, so perhaps my time awake can be put to good use as there’s only so many cupboards one can clean in the middle of the night.

Hi @Themidnightcuppa, Was lurking on this thread back in December and shocked to read your update. I'm so sorry for your loss. My mum died around now nearly 30 years ago and my sleep has suffered since.

You sound so uplifted and positive. I can hear that you are liberated from the horrible chains of illness. Notebook sounds such a lovely idea. I wrote 2 books in the still silence of the night, so am sure you can achieve that!

Urgh. I am finding torment in my early wakenings. I know the anxiety is in my head, but I need to find a way to achieve peace.

Loving this thread, despite the melancholic turns. Thank you. 🙏

Waved to everyone else, too. What a lovely group of people on this thread. I'm still getting used to the app/how to post quotes.

Hoping to find peace. Maybe I am now experiencing menopause, keep waking up at 1,2, 3 am with anxiety.

Thanks @Thevelvelletes I was quoting because I didn't know how to do replies, believe it or not. Only just noticed that where the reply button is.

I'm still getting used to it after being on for four years 😁.

Anotherduvet · 17/01/2025 04:36

😁 Logic dictates that it should be where the quotation marks are. I'm sure these 3.30 wakenings don't help!

Anotherduvet · 17/01/2025 04:42

@Thevelvelletes and that time I forgot the @ 🤦🏻‍♀️ I'm a mess!

Thevelvelletes · 17/01/2025 04:46

@Anotherduvet you will get used to it ,I'm still learning how bits and pieces work on here in the meantime welcome aboard 😁

Anotherduvet · 17/01/2025 04:55

@Thevelvelletes Thanks so much! Been lurking on/off a few years but it is nice to post & engage.

Wonder if I should try going back to sleep, or fight it out? I often fall asleep on my phone at 5 and wake up at 7, weirdly ready to go. Who need sleep, anyway. Pah!

Thank you. He’s been poorly for such a long time that life went on hold really for both of us so although I’m sad im looking forward to doing things for myself. I’ll unearth my watercolours and go to the canal and paint the narrow boats again.

Dear @Themidnightcuppa I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I hope that a new chapter in your life will emerge from the ashes. I'm glad you're looking forward. You are a dear lady and I wish you happiness.

Thank you. I went looking for painting stuff today and found my sewing machine. I was learning to sew a few years ago, might go see if my fabric shop is still doing get to know your sewing machine courses.

When you get round to doing a water colour would it be possible to show us if you're up to that.
I'm sure many on here would love to see your work.

Darn it haven’t been to bed yet. Well that’s not quite true. I’ve sat in bed with 2 cups of tea now watched the traitors on catch up and mulled over a few things about DH. Then went off to search in a cupboard for things I’d forgotten about but thought I actually should find. I found all sorts of things some of which were before we were together. I also found an unwritten anniversary card which made me cry because it won’t be long before we will have been married for 22 years. Unfortunately, he hadn’t written it.

It’s been suggested we put together one of those digital photo frames on a table at the wake and our eldest has been asking us all to email her photographs we’d like on it. It’s been a bit of a nostalgia trip and rather emotional. He was a bit of a Roger Moore look alike in his younger days and I’d sort of forgotten that.

Thinking of you OP Flowers

Themidnightcuppa · 19/01/2025 00:40

@Thevelvelletes omg, im sure that would be outing as I’ve a rather raw style which anyone that knows me would recognise. Im often very happy with my sploshing and DH loved to frame them but im only allowed to hang them in the downstairs loo 😂 along with the grandkids (who are all under five) paintings. DH often said that the kiddies were better than mine, cheek of it!

Not best pleased about being awake, I’m jolly knackered all day, fell asleep no problem and now I’m wide awake, I’m sure the dog farting has something to do with it. We went to mums for Sunday dinner and she gave him the left over gravy, ummmmmm, not letting her do that again.

I’m running out of room on the dining room table, that’s where I’ve put all the sympathy cards, I could just about squeeze my dinner plate on the other day but I’ve given up and used a tray since, feels very naughty, DH liked to sit at the table.

Wish I could find an empathise emoji. I had a similar situation - minus the farting dog.

Thinking of you.

Themidnightcuppa · 22/01/2025 01:02

This is seriously beginning to hack me off, I'm tired, I came to bed, I do not sleep, just been and got a cuppa.

I think I need to bring a tv into the bedroom, I never see the end of many a program I put on to watch.

Im supposed to be visiting DD tomorrow with the said farty dog, except she doesn’t know that bit, my name will be mud. I got said dog a new bed because his is a tad smelly but he won’t get in it so I’ll pop it in the car and he will have to sit on it then hopefully he might decide to use it at home.

right off to put something on the iPad on iPlayer and hopefully nod right off, take care all those still up, xxxx

I'm so sorry you lost your husband, OP. I'm another one who isn't asleep yet. Hope everyone has a good night.

WearyAuldWumman · 22/01/2025 01:26

Going to have a warm milk and then head for bed.

Wishitwasstraightforward · 22/01/2025 01:39

@Themidnightcuppa, @healthybychristmas and @WearyAuldWumman hope you're sleeping soundly by now.

I've only just come to bed. Staying up so late was a bad decision on my part- I have a huge amount to do tomorrow. Still, it's done now so all I can do is my best tomorrow.

I have a TV in my room @Themidnightcuppa. I honestly think it helps me sleep, although I know that the sleep experts would not approve. I use the sleep timer function so it isn't on all night.

Mulledjuice · 22/01/2025 01:52

I've just been up with the baby.

I saw a bit of Winterwatch earlier and saw that they have a 24 hour live cam on the BBC website which I imagine might be restful for those up in the night.

BumpyaDaisyevna · 22/01/2025 02:43

I'm doing it right now! Son and I went to the gym/swimming this late evening and so I woke up at 2am starving and buzzing with energy ... ah well.

Icepinkeskimo · 22/01/2025 03:18

I love this thread, op I’m so sorry to read about your dh. I am a great two (sometimes 3) part sleeper. I live on cups of tea and ginger nuts apparently. I should have finished work at 11pm, but I have a very poorly patient (no family) under my care, so I’m staying put till the morning.
Wishing you all a peaceful rest of the evening.
