Went to bed at 9.30pm and woke at midnight, just me here tonight so I can do as I please so it’s tea and toast and a scroll.

this is becoming a bit of a habit waking up for a cuppa, a scroll, and then going back to bed, am I the only one?

I love this thread, op I’m so sorry to read about your dh. I am a great two (sometimes 3) part sleeper. I live on cups of tea and ginger nuts apparently. I should have finished work at 11pm, but I have a very poorly patient (no family) under my care, so I’m staying put till the morning.
Wishing you all a peaceful rest of the evening.

How lovely of you to be there for your patient. We need more people like you in this world. I hope you manage to get some sleep xx

Themidnightcuppa · 22/01/2025 23:49

Said farty dog didn’t fart but was spectacularly sick on DD kitchen floor, fortunately it wasn’t the carpet.

im having a cuppa now and then I’m going to setup the iPad on bcc iPlayer on some random tv program. Im hoping farty dog sleeps tonight as this morning I was still in my dressing gown at 11.30am when unexpected visitor arrived when I was on my second cuppa trying to find the energy to get my bum in gear.

@Icepinkeskimo I’m in awe of your dedication to your patient and I hope you are ok 💐💐💐
when DH was last in hospital it was awful how short staffed the ward was and I did ten hours a day or so caring for DH because he often needed one to one continuous care, a doctor asked me if I’d had a medical career on one occasion, and was surprised I hadn’t but I’d just picked up so many good tips from nurses and caring staff over the years and I was proud to give my all to my DH.

ok, im off, happy sleeps everyone, hope your night is restful xxxx

Just had my cup of tea and setting my alarm for 5.45, I had the greatest sleep this morning literally I walked through the door and freezing cold and so tired. I am so in love with my hot water bottle it just takes that awful chill out of the bed. My patient is doing better, oxygen levels are up and infection markers moving in the right direction. My registrar is overseeing my patients tonight with strict instructions regarding this particular patient, extra tlc and to call me immediately with any concerns. OP you are spot on about the shortage of (good) staff, I see a lot of lovely kind relatives and friends helping out their loved ones and tbh they do a better job than some of the nursing staff. When I first started my career the system was different, now it seems to be a “tick box” mentality. That being said, this seems wide spread across the board. Wishing you all a peaceful and restful night.

RogueFemale · 23/01/2025 01:33

I'm looking forward to my electric blanket!

Themidnightcuppa · 23/01/2025 16:04

It would seem the trick is Lucy Worsley’s history programs, nodded off within ten minutes, I’m going to watch the rest tonight because it was very interesting. All about 1066 and the Battle of Hastings (which I actually thought was the Battle of Senlac hill, which basically is now where Battle (near Hastings) is. )

Farty dog has a yeast infection, I kept wondering what the beer smell was, I now have to shampoo him every day for three days, he wasn’t impressed and the neighbours roared with laughter at me chasing farty dog round the garden in my wet suit in the pouring rain, I kid you not gentle reader that was exactly what I did!

I've loved reading this thread the last few nights (especially farty dog), though I was very sorry to read about the loss of your lovely DH OP.

Why do our furry friends always vomit at the worst times and in the worst places? Recently I was staying with my sister while we had renovations done, and the cat decided to vomit on the lovely, spotless, couch. My extremely house proud BIL was not impressed, and I really don't think he believed me that the cat had never vomited anywhere near soft furnishings before! Previously said cat has vomited on the reception desk in the veterinary office, covering all of the stationary belonging to the perpetually grumpy receptionist.

Wishitwasstraightforward · 23/01/2025 22:55

@Themidnightcuppa I am delighted to hear you may have found a TV programme which is both interesting and sleep inducing. Best of luck over the next 2 days shampooing farty dog!

@CatCaretaker I absolutely agree. I think cats in particular have a knack for having 'accidents' at the worst possible time. I'm a dog walker and also offer cat care whilst owners are away. Recently a customer had organised a painter / decorator to repaint their kitchen. This decorator told me he hated cats because they wee and poo everywhere indoors. I assured him that he was wrong, cats don't do that unless unwell, and that these cats had never done that in the 5 years I've cared for them. Lo and behold I arrived the next day to find an apoplectic decorator- cats had weed and pooed all over his dust sheets.

CatCaretaker · 24/01/2025 03:08

@Wishitwasstraightforward his dust sheets shouldn't so well resemble a litter tray then 😆

Themidnightcuppa · 24/01/2025 07:20

Oh dear, she smiles, to all funny cats and dog stories.

well I think that may have been my first full nights sleep, I did wake at 6am but that was my body needing a wee wee. I started Lucy’s Bloody Mary episode and don’t think I got more than five mins in, and the turn it off worked as it was off this morning.

farty dog is very soft and fluffy, can’t decide when to inflict shampooing on him (and myself), I have a few DH arrangements appointments today so might leave farty dog to watch BBc1 this morning, as DH said as I’d ask farty dog what he’d like to watch, “farty dog is very discerning and only likes BBC1”, so that’s what it will be.

there’s a storm raging outside and it’s lashing with rain, not looking forward to this afternoon’s antics in my wet suit 🤦‍♀️

Feeling exceptionally sleepy so hoping for another good night, just about to take farty dog and the iPad to bed. Well farty dog actually sleeps on the floor on a huge luxurious padded dog bed.

enjoyed the final episode of the traitors and then uncloaked, im going to miss the entertainment it’s kept me feeling normal. Tomorrow though is time for a mahoosive tidy up, id been feeling overwhelmed at where to start and I’ve got a week now to get the house ship shape for guests, which includes finding the beds which are buried under large amounts of clean laundry I couldn’t be arsed to put away.

I also need to find my Christmas presents because I lobbed them in bags and haven’t looked at them since I threw them under the spare bed.

day three of the shampooing tomorrow, wasn’t quite so traumatic today as we both knew what was happening and the extra biscuits helped. Im going to buy him a huge chew tomorrow to make up for the trauma. (I might buy myself one of those huuuuuge toblerones for keeping calm and carrying on).

This is seriously beginning to hack me off, I'm tired, I came to bed, I do not sleep, just been and got a cuppa.

I think I need to bring a tv into the bedroom, I never see the end of many a program I put on to watch.

Im supposed to be visiting DD tomorrow with the said farty dog, except she doesn’t know that bit, my name will be mud. I got said dog a new bed because his is a tad smelly but he won’t get in it so I’ll pop it in the car and he will have to sit on it then hopefully he might decide to use it at home.

right off to put something on the iPad on iPlayer and hopefully nod right off, take care all those still up, xxxx

Do this, so lovely to watch a good film whilst being in a nice warm comfortable bed, trouble is staying in bed / going to bed early then becomes a bit of a habit but I suppose there are worse habits to have!

RogueFemale · 25/01/2025 00:45

I would love to know farty dog's name, if you're willing to reveal?

My cat is called Edward. Ginger tabby tom, age 7 so a little portly now.

RogueFemale · 25/01/2025 00:46

The rain is pouring down here, I love the comforting feeling of heavy rain.

Heavy rain battering off the windows when you're tucked up safe and cosy in bed, lovely.
Commiserations to anyone having to venture out in it.

Themidnightcuppa · 25/01/2025 22:46

Farty dog is called Dave, DH named him, for some odd reason he’d always wanted a dog called Dave. I find it embarrassing shouting Dave Dave at the park, im always worried a man called Dave will come running towards me.

i managed to find the garage floor and had a big poke around in the freezer, I think I’ve got enough food to feed me for several months if I buy a few greens,

I unearthed my treadmill from the laundry that’s covered it for over three months and had a two minute jog and am planning on trying to get back to couch to 5k, when DH fell ill id only managed to run for 45 seconds at a time but I think im a lot fitter now so it will be interesting to see what I can manage.

right im off for my cuppa and to decide which episode of Lucy to attempt to watch. Did anyone see Michael McIntyre and the prank on the lady who loved Olly Murrs, made me laugh which was nice.

Didn’t see that - must check out Iplayer.

Have some kind of bug. Worst seems to be over.

Spoke to NHS Scotland nurse at about 2pm. Got call back from doc just after midnight, while sleeping.

Now having a cuppa.

I love the idea of a dog called Dave.

Sourisblanche · 26/01/2025 03:51

So sorry to read your update op. I read this thread back in December and found the two sleeps theory comforting. I remember this theory if I do wake up and stay awake for a few hours - usually every other night for me.

Hope you find comfort in ddog and friends Daffodil

@WearyAuldWumman I do hope you’re feeling a lot better now.

Farty dog who I probably should stop calling that had a peaceful night.. I woke up at 6 am but did go back to sleep until 8 am. I’ve just had a sausage sandwich for breakfast so next stop is the treadmill

today’s job is the airing cupboard, I may be a while!

OP posts:
WearyAuldWumman · 26/01/2025 18:33

Sausage sandwiches are excellent - and sorting out the airing cupboard is satisfying.

Themidnightcuppa · 29/01/2025 21:50

Farty dog is definitely no longer farting but im scared I am going to have a bald dog. His fur is falling out in alarming clumps, he’s due back at the vet who thinks it’s probably stress related. (Jeez I lie, he’s just trumped at my feet, urghhhh).

we’ve had a couple of decent nights sleep with just one needing to go for a wee around 5am.

I’ve not been on the treadmill and have been resisting hanging clothes on it again, I’ve had every intention of getting on it first thing in the morning but my brain is resisting. lol

Themidnightcuppa · 05/02/2025 04:36

I hope everyone has been having some good night sleep.

I’m up because I had to set the alarm. Dave the Darling dog unfortunately had another accident and he’s now on spaced painkillers which mean I have to get up at 4 am. Sometimes I think if I currently wrote my current life down and published it, people would think it had to be that fiction and there’s no way it could actually be real.

My dad came today and sat with Dave while I went shopping and whilst looking for and ends in the supermarket I came across what my dad fondly calls babies heads, sounds rather hideous and grotesque, but basically it’s a beef steamed pudding. My mum used to make them years ago and we called them suet puddings so I got one each and my dad was glad he came to watch over Dave.

Hello OP, I'm up having fed 5 week old dd. She's snoozing on me now, hoping if I get her sleepy enough she'll let me put her down.

What accident did poor Dave have?

He didn’t look before he jumped in a place he normally jumps and crashed into an outing object which shouldn’t have been there and hurt his leg.
