Do you have blankets downstairs?

Me and dh are polar opposites temperature wise. I'm always cold and would have the heating on full blast, he's in shorts and a t-shirt all year round at home and doesn't feel the cold.

I don't always want to be in layers. I fancy a small, warm blanket to snuggle under but ds laughed and said only old ladies do that! I'm 46!

We try to have a nice tidy lounge but I'm naturally a messy wreck so do think I'd need to get something smallish that I could fold over the back of the settee.

I crochet and have a couple of pretty blankets but the cat clicks them if I have them on my lap!

I have 3 and I'm 33, no shame at all! Be comfy!

hby9628 · 29/11/2024 23:35

We are a family of 4. We have 4 blankets downstairs at least. Possibly more. Also more on our beds. Love a blanket!

GoldenLegend · 29/11/2024 23:38

A throw: velvet one side, fur fabric the other.

mumda · 29/11/2024 23:39

I have lots of sofa blankets and a heated throw. Only one blanket downstairs on the sofa at a time though.

recipientofraspberries · 29/11/2024 23:40

I'm in my late twenties and I've been a devoted lover of blankets for as long as I can remember. I often pick up a nice blanket from the supermarket actually. I can see several of them rolled up nearby in my living room. Your DH is talking crapola!

Also, men tend to run hotter than women.

Not2identifying · 29/11/2024 23:41

I don't have anywhere to store my summer duvet so use it in the lounge in the winter. It's amazingly cosy.

Fizzygoo · 29/11/2024 23:42

We use the passenger blankets that have poppers so can wear as a cape

No one laughs if your cosy

Bleachbum · 29/11/2024 23:43

We have blankets all over the house. 2 or 3 in the sitting room, 1 in the kitchen in case lounging on the sofa in there. We also have blankets in all bedrooms alongside the quilts. Is it possible to sit on a sofa or in an armchair without a blanket??

Ours are all either folded and draper over the back or arms of the chair/sofa. But mostly they are strewn with various members of the family snuggling under them.

CactusPeach · 29/11/2024 23:43

I feel the cold easily and the heating turns off before bedtime, we have an ottoman in the living room with a selection of blankets, including a huge heated throw dh bought last year that's big enough for the whole family to snuggle under on the corner sofa. I'm 38, my kids including teen daughter have their own particular blankets they like to snuggle under.

Tangled123 · 29/11/2024 23:48

I wouldn’t be without some kind of blanket in winter and I’m 36. My mum bought me an amazing fleece one a few years ago for Christmas that I’m currently using, but I’ve always kept a blanket on my sofa ever since I moved out of my parents house.

Daisymae55 · 29/11/2024 23:51

33 here and have a basket of blankets next to our sofa. Have done since I moved into my own home in my early 20s

FiddlefigOnTheRoof · 29/11/2024 23:52

I’ve had sofa blankets and snuggled under them since I had my own place aged 23!

ThatWhiteElephant · 29/11/2024 23:56

We have one on each sofa.
I use them every day, the kids use them often.

Lavenderblossoms · 29/11/2024 23:56

I do indeed. I love a good sofa blanket. Especially in winter. I have to have a cover on me. I hate being cold.

AlexandraPeppernose · 30/11/2024 00:02

We have 5 that live on the backs of the sofa.

OrigamiOwls · 30/11/2024 00:02

I've got a heated throw... One of my best ever purchases

MissTrip82 · 30/11/2024 00:03

I’ve done this since moving out of home at 17. It’s the only economical thing to do surely.

CrazyAndSagittarius · 30/11/2024 00:04

Your DH is an idiot. I've had blankets in my front room since I was in my 20s. I like being cosy. As PPs have said though the best thing is an electric one. I am under line now 😀. My son and DIL who are in their 20s also have blankets and electric blankets downstairs.

Doitrightnow · 30/11/2024 00:04

Absolutely. DH has always had them and I got on board a few years ago when energy prices shot through the roof.

I am younger than you.

Onehappymam · 30/11/2024 00:07

Always!

We have a soft woven basket with a few snuggly blankets rolled up inside. We use them all the time. Can’t imagine life without blankets. Sometimes the kids even beg to take their duvets down!

When I was a kid my mam used to ask ‘do you want a happy up?’ which is a Scottish way of offering a blanket. To hap something means to cover it.

Try it! There’s no going back.

TheChosenTwo · 30/11/2024 00:11

Of course, Many! Currently lying under my
heated one in front of the fire 😂
they all get folded and put in a basket when not in use.
The heating isn’t on because it’s very warm in here but sometimes I have the fire going, heated blanket AND the heating is on. I run very cold (low iron) and need a lot of warmth.
Dh claims to ‘hate the blankets’ but I sometimes catch him with one, he always says someone left it on the sofa and it fell on him (and strangely manages to wrap itself round his legs!).

Wincher · 30/11/2024 00:14

My 14 year old DS has asked for a blanket for Christmas! Need to try to find him a non-nanaish one

coffeesaveslives · 30/11/2024 00:16

I honestly don't know a single person who doesn't have blankets for the sofa. We have an electric one plus Sherpa fleece ones and some lighter weight ones too.

Salad666 · 30/11/2024 00:20

I'm the same as you - always cold and my husband is also in shorts all year round, in Iceland years ago it was -16° and he was still in shorts!!

I have loads of blankets, I'm over 10 years younger than you and I couldn't care less if it's what old ladies do because they're clearly doing it right 😂 I love a big soft blanket to snuggle under.

Hope you enjoy your purchase when it arrives 😊.

cheesymashfortea · 30/11/2024 00:23

I’ve got loads of blankets in my sitting room and both me and my partner use them most evenings - in our mid 20s!
