Do you have blankets downstairs?

Me and dh are polar opposites temperature wise. I'm always cold and would have the heating on full blast, he's in shorts and a t-shirt all year round at home and doesn't feel the cold.

I don't always want to be in layers. I fancy a small, warm blanket to snuggle under but ds laughed and said only old ladies do that! I'm 46!

We try to have a nice tidy lounge but I'm naturally a messy wreck so do think I'd need to get something smallish that I could fold over the back of the settee.

I crochet and have a couple of pretty blankets but the cat clicks them if I have them on my lap!

Autumn signals getting out the heated throw. Actually don't ever need to plug it in but it's there if we need it. Lovely to snuggle in front of the telly.

Vaxtable · 29/11/2024 22:52

Got a lovely blanket from B&M I use bit folds up nicely and lies over a settee when I am not using it

olympicsrock · 29/11/2024 22:54

We all snuggle under blankets here. I am 46 too and use one every day really 12 months a year . I feel odd without one. DH was persuaded aged 30 when we met and the kids like them too.

katepilar · 29/11/2024 22:54

I dont see any issue whatsoever with using a blanket on the sofa if thats what you like.

EdnaTheWitch · 29/11/2024 22:55

H and I both under our ‘downstairs’ blankets at the mo. I’m in my 40’s 🤷🏻‍♀️

Pinkypup · 29/11/2024 22:56

I’ve snuggled under blankets on the sofa since a teenager….sooooooo!!!

kaysee01 · 29/11/2024 22:58

bryceQ · 29/11/2024 21:47

I actually think it's strange not to have them!

This. Not sure I know anyone who doesn't!

justasking111 · 29/11/2024 22:58

That reminds me son is home for Christmas I must dig one out for him. He snuggles up with the dog and they both sleep.

Sockmate123 · 29/11/2024 22:59

I'm 43 but have had blankets in living room cupboard since my teens. My kids also use them. It's cosy!

Jowak1 · 29/11/2024 22:59

Yes! I have blankets stored in the puffet and only tonight my 14 year old daughter surprised me and bought me a lovely Xmas pudding fleece one as a present after taking her and friend to get some snacks to Tesco! Currently snuggled under it watching tv ❤️

Jowak1 · 29/11/2024 23:00

Oh im 46!

TvToastBedPerfect · 29/11/2024 23:01

Yes. We have a blanket basket. The 3 dcs that like to use them all have a ' downstairs blanket' and there's also 2 plain small ones and 1 large one.

Wordau · 29/11/2024 23:02

We have a couple of nice woollen blankets on show, plus a couple of tacky but very warm giant fleece throws we use regularly. I also have a heated throw which I couldn't recommend enough. All of them are downstairs. We have a storage table the ugly ones fit into nicely.

Wildywondrous · 29/11/2024 23:04

I spend my evenings under a heated throw with a crocheted thick blanket over the top and then whatever blanket on top of those that I'm currently crocheting.

I use blankets all year round.

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 29/11/2024 23:05

I have hundreds of them. In my living room I have 8. I keep buying them. I can’t help myself. I even have them in the garden. Weavers Green do lovely garden ones.

I have a plug in blanket - one of those silent night ones that you can pop in washing machine. It’s brilliant. Instead of putting heating in, or having a fire in an evening I pop that instead. Costs about 4p a night so v cheap. It’s not an old lady thing - I’m your age but there’s loads of colleagues now bought one when I said how cosy it is - and most of those are females in their early to mid thirties.

It’s like a life sized hot water bottle!

Jellycatspyjamas · 29/11/2024 23:05

I have various blankets downstairs for me, the kids, the cat, the dog - everyone in my house loves to snuggle up.

SarahAndQuack · 29/11/2024 23:06

He's absurd.

I'm 40, and have snuggled up under nice throws since I was in my impecunious 20s and living in very cold houses!

These days I work outdoors full time; I am usually racing around in short sleeves and no coat and people think I should be freezing, so I know I don't run cold at all. Even so, you need something to snuggle under!

Hadalifeonce · 29/11/2024 23:07

We have a basket of blankets in each sitting room. We all use them, it's not always a temperature thing, DD and I will sometimes huddle under a blanket to watch a film, and she certainly isn't old.

Objectrelations · 29/11/2024 23:08

Can someone link to their nice heated throws?

PyongyangKipperbang · 29/11/2024 23:10

Heated throws are definitely the thing, and keep the bills down if you are on your own as I am because you just heat yourself and not the room (although going to the loo is a trip to the Arctic!).

Kids laughed when I got one, but fight over it when they are home and all asked for one last Xmas as (all at uni) they realised what a difference it makes financially!

Also highly recommend Hotbots! Not a brand name but the nickname we have given to the heat pads we have. they are about the size of a hand towel and are basically mini electric blankets. You can sit on them, have them over your feet or shoulders and are amazing if you get back pain.

Cost less than £20 and warm you up all through. Life saver and small enough to be packed to take away on trips too. As a fellow nesh, I would strongly suggest you get one

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 29/11/2024 23:13

I’ve had blankets in the lounge all my life! My mum loves a blanket too. So when I moved out in my 20s of course I had blankets on the sofa. My kids love them now too. Tbh I can’t believe you’ve lasted this long, it’s so uncomfortable sitting on the sofa cold and blanket less!

HereForTheAnimals · 29/11/2024 23:14

We have lots of throws that our dog makes his own, even though he has a perfectly, almost unused bed on the floor. He's come a long way though, because he doesn't chew them or the cushions to bits anymore 🤣

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 29/11/2024 23:15

Who are these people who sit about without a blanket?

These ones are lovely.

I'm in my late 20s and have an ottoman in the living room stuffed with blankets. My favourite is a cashmere throw.
