Do you have blankets downstairs?

Me and dh are polar opposites temperature wise. I'm always cold and would have the heating on full blast, he's in shorts and a t-shirt all year round at home and doesn't feel the cold.

I don't always want to be in layers. I fancy a small, warm blanket to snuggle under but ds laughed and said only old ladies do that! I'm 46!

We try to have a nice tidy lounge but I'm naturally a messy wreck so do think I'd need to get something smallish that I could fold over the back of the settee.

I crochet and have a couple of pretty blankets but the cat clicks them if I have them on my lap!

I have got one, but in terms of age, I got mine long after my young adult dc.

All of them, their partners, friends, and my nieces and nephews have blankets to snuggle under in the living room - that 'young adult' generation far more then the 35 - 70 generation.

Ditto - I have a nice basket with blankets in it and these get washed regularly

RoseDog · 29/11/2024 21:53

We have 4 at the minute, none of them match anything or each other, the dog is currently hoarding 3 of them!

PuppyMonkey · 29/11/2024 21:54

My Silentnight heated blanket has changed my life. You will never go back to the cold old days. You can do this OP.

Mindyourfunkybusiness · 29/11/2024 21:54

I come from generation's of sofa blanket users, and proudly my children (eldest being 8) are also huge fans of the blankets.
We also sleep under some, as where we are currently is warm.
I grew up and still frequent London - so it was needed there, cold and unaffordable heating.

I have blankets here because you can take the girl outta the cold house but you can't take the memories of the cold house outta the girl 😂

Merrymess · 29/11/2024 21:54

Doesn't everyone have blankets in the living room? The shops are full of them.

Autumnlife · 29/11/2024 21:54

We have blanks and a heated throw each I love to be snuggled up on the sofa this time of year.

bringonyourwreckingball · 29/11/2024 21:55

And it is perfect because she is tiny and always cold, I am menopausal and unpredictable and it’s a big house for just 2 of us, why heat it all?

I don’t just have a blanket I have a selection of them Grin. We have a nice looking wicker basket down the side of the sofa they get folded up into when they’re not in use. No greater pleasure in life than being all cosy under a fluffy blanket while a cat snores on your lap.

Me too!! Haha

BeTealUser · 29/11/2024 21:55

My house is full of blankets - some are for just for looking at but most are for actual warmth 🤣

princessrapunzel · 29/11/2024 21:56

Yes!!! I cant sit on the sofa without mine now and im in my early 30s. My kids have copied and love a blanket over them too.
Like other posters have said it saves on heating and like you i dont always feel comfy in loads of layers. He doesnt know what hes missing!

Onlyvisiting · 29/11/2024 21:56

Yes, I'm 38!
It's way cheaper than heating.
Not something I grew up with though, mind you, didn't have a sofa either!

I'd find it a bit weird if I was was around socialising with people and they were all tucked up in blankets lime they were about to nap, but at home alone in the evening or early morning I'm totally under a blanket in my pjs.

teatoast8 · 29/11/2024 21:56

I need to get a blanket

Deadbeatex · 29/11/2024 21:57

I'm 42 and have several blankets all over the place lol I love an oodie and a blanket! You can get ones that heat up now as well. Go wild @NorthernGirlie and treat yourself in the black Friday sales, don't be waiting for Christmas!!

starrymidnight · 29/11/2024 21:57

I’m 43 and I’m snuggled under a blanket on the sofa right now! I love them. DH doesn’t use them, fine, more for me.

MillyMichaelson · 29/11/2024 21:57

Yes. DH also says I'm an old lady but I'm almost always freezing and he's always toasty. I literally just said to my son that blankets are the best invention in the world 😆

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 29/11/2024 21:58

We have a footstool full of blankets and three blankets of varying warmth folded on the back of the sofa... And a heated blanket over my end of the sofa... For nana naps. I'm in my 30s. I mean, for the dogs, when they need a cosy nana nap...

NewPinkJacket · 29/11/2024 21:58

Yes, we've got two lovely soft 'sofa blankets'.

However, I'd rather freeze than have crochet!

For some inexplicable reason, I hate most crochet things with a passion.

NorthernGirlie · 29/11/2024 21:59

Bloody hell - I'm definitely missing out!

I'm searching for one now. Dh and ds would never need one, they're always hot. I'm so jealous!

tunainatin · 29/11/2024 21:59

Yes one on each sofa and one on the chair, 2 of them hand knitted by my mum!

Ineffable23 · 29/11/2024 21:59

I have 4. I regularly sit under 2 at once. The house was never warm enough growing up to sit in the sitting room not under a blanket and the habit stuck. I'm 31 and I think almost all my friends would sit under a blanket to watch TV etc.

You think you want a small one, but you want a big one or the drafts get round it. I have a woollen one which is lovely and warm but I prefer an acrylic one for my bottom layer if blanket because the wool itches even through my pyjamas.

Saltedcarameltiramisucheesecake · 29/11/2024 21:59

I think you are in the minority OP, we have a couple of sherpa fleece blankets on the sofa here, plus I have a heated pad for my aches and pains, it's fantastic.

BoobyDazzler · 29/11/2024 22:00

Hell yes!

DeathMetalMum · 29/11/2024 22:00

Several, they are used all year round too. Sometimes it gets chilly in the evening during the summer and I don't want to get changed so will just use a blanket until bedtime. Mainly used by me and dd2 who is 11 but dp and dd1 will use them too.

We have a nice basket by the side of the sofa and have just bought a poufee/footstool with storage as we have filled the current basket and needed more space for blanket storage.
