Do you have blankets downstairs?

Me and dh are polar opposites temperature wise. I'm always cold and would have the heating on full blast, he's in shorts and a t-shirt all year round at home and doesn't feel the cold.

I don't always want to be in layers. I fancy a small, warm blanket to snuggle under but ds laughed and said only old ladies do that! I'm 46!

We try to have a nice tidy lounge but I'm naturally a messy wreck so do think I'd need to get something smallish that I could fold over the back of the settee.

I crochet and have a couple of pretty blankets but the cat clicks them if I have them on my lap!

@NorthernGirlie I have several! 😂

Strokethefurrywall · 29/11/2024 22:18

I live in the Caribbean and we have blankets downstairs!!!

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 29/11/2024 22:18

Always, so comfy and cosy even if not cold. Husband hates them though and he packs them away, he doesn't like cushions either.

IveGotToGoToMeDads · 29/11/2024 22:18

39 here and I use a blanket when sitting in lounge sat with it now with the dog curled up next to me and he's got a blanket.

Hello113 · 29/11/2024 22:19

Always had blankets growing up, I found it weird when other people didn't! Have had blankets to sit under on the sofa in every house I've lived in. My most recent favourite thing is my heated blanket. It's the best. I'm also someone who will avoid putting on the heating whenever possible.

BiddyPop · 29/11/2024 22:20

We've had blankets on our sofa for years - DD has ADHD/ASD and likes to snuggle under them, as well as all of us liking to get under them on colder nights.

Dd likes fleecy types, but we also have a few more woven woollen types as they all move around the house over time....

When not in use, the downstairs ones are normally neatly folded over the back of the sofa and armchair.

LochNessy · 29/11/2024 22:20

I have a sofa duvet (double - thick winter tog and gets kept in a cupboard unless in use)
I have a thin fleece type blanket, and a thicker blanket that stay on the sofa, and I have a thick electric blanket also in the cupboard.

I also am usually wearing a thick oodie and slipper socks at all times.
i really feel the cold and once I get cold I really struggle to warm myself up and it makes me feel absolutely terrible and sometimes triggers a migraine.

drspouse · 29/11/2024 22:21

We've got about 5. The DCs have their favourites including one I made for them before we knew we were having them (they are adopted, it was very much an act of faith).

A/C? I grew up in the ME and we'd have the wall bangers on high and sleep under thick duvets. We weren't aware of sustainability then!

Schoolchoicesucks · 29/11/2024 22:22

Yes, sofa blankets in our house too. Did copy MIL who has had snuggly sofa blankets for years. DD15 and DS12 like to use them when watching TV in the evening as a family too.

Absolutefrustration · 29/11/2024 22:23

Yes but my giant house spider always hides in it so I have to shake it carefully each time and he runs off usually under the sofa or bookcase. He’s back in the blanket the next evening though without fail I think he genuinely likes it ? (Can spiders think?)

CeeCee2022 · 29/11/2024 22:23

Blankets all year round on the couch here.... currently have 4 blankets and 2 oodies dotted around my corner sofa. we sit on them, put them over our laps, use them bundled as cushion if lazing about and have always done this since I was a child, am 37 now and my 8 year old loves it too.

rayofsunshine86 · 29/11/2024 22:24

I've always had a living room blanket, since I was about 24. I hate getting comfortable on the sofa, feeling a chill, and then having to go upstairs to locate the right sort of blanket.

mandarindreams · 29/11/2024 22:26

Plenty of blankets in our living room, I've always had at least one in circulation since I was a student living in poorly insulated flats with no money to put the heating on.

Witchlite · 29/11/2024 22:26

Just call them throws for the sofa (blankets) and suddenly they are now accepted by all.

woffley · 29/11/2024 22:29

Doesn't everyone?
Even with the heating on all day and the fire lit we have blankets. When my adult DC in their 20s visit they always ask for blankets.

JawsCushion · 29/11/2024 22:29

I had a blanket downstairs younger than you @NorthernGirlie . My MIL bought me one for Christmas with a snowman on. I thought what the heck but tbh, best thing she's ever bought me. I've just bought a heated Sherpa one. I'm 52 now but don't care.

h7htj392 · 29/11/2024 22:31

Well, I live in a ground floor flat, so all my blankets are downstairs.

I do have a "living room blanket", though (large fleece throw on the sofa).

grapefruitnights · 29/11/2024 22:31

I'm 47. We've always had blankets around downstairs but for the last couple of years, I can't imagine existing without my electric throw on the sofa in the winter.

Namechanhedforthe1000thtime · 29/11/2024 22:32

I have blankets in almost every room 😅 even my pets have blankets 😅 I'm early 30's

Me and DD are always very cold, DS is always hot. Me and DD love having the heating on + our oodies or having a nice blanket, 8 year old DS is happy walking round in just a pair of shorts

woffley · 29/11/2024 22:33

I do like the idea of a special blanket box in the living room. I wash and change them frequently. Fluffy ones, crocheted ones, home made quilts, furry ones

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 29/11/2024 22:33

We’ve got 4 assorted warm blankets on the backs of the sofas. They’re there all year. You can have chilly evenings in summer, too.
And you can tell your dh it’s definitely not just old ladies! My Gdcs (9, 8 and 4) often snuggle under a blanket to watch TV, both here and at home.

FlamingFlamingoFluff · 29/11/2024 22:34

Yes I do….but I call it my old lady blanket!

HellofromJohnCraven · 29/11/2024 22:34

It's the ideal use for the summer duvet in my view!

AshCrapp · 29/11/2024 22:34

I'm 31 and have two pure wool blankets which I drape over myself every time I sit down.
