I’m scared now I’ve realised this

I was thinking that the US public wouldn’t vote for Trump now that it is so apparent he is such a fascist. It’s terrifying to realise that they already know that and that is why they are going to vote for him.
I’m scared for the world.

I was just looking online.

There was a study done this year.

It said that 64 per cent of Americans surveyed want the electoral college system to stop. They think that the winner of the popular vote should win

Bump3tyBump · 29/10/2024 16:34

Brexit idea of relying on the USA for trade as opposed to the EU seems even more foolish now. 😳

Nanny0gg · 29/10/2024 16:34

A very good read is Heather Cox Richardson's Letter from America.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heather_Cox_Richardson

She's on FB, Substack and you can subscribe to the above.

She's an historian who explains lots of how they got to where they are and discusses the current election situation very clearly.

What staggers me are the number of women that will vote for him

It's a weird one alright.

They all seem to ignore his many sexual assault accusations

sofialiliy11 · 29/10/2024 16:35

One of the more odious things about trump is when he said that he fancied his own daughter

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/10/2024 16:35

People who don't understand need to know:
religion and the Rep party are intertwined,
churches preach anti-abortion/pro-life and weave it with politics,
many church leaders outright say to vote republican, many people believe the Dems are evil (not rhetoric), this is said in churches,
people will vote based on the singular issue of abortion bans because that's what God wants,
people believe the US constitution is the word of God.
It's not just some. It's tens of millions of people.
They want prayer in schools. They ban books.
And they don't see or accept that it is utter hypocrisy for the state to control women's bodies despite the republican tenet of small gov't and less gov't control.
You cannot tell them otherwise because you are evil, co-opted, sheep, anti-christian, anti-God, non -patriotic, anti-American.

It is so deep and ingrained you can't wrap your head around it. The republican party has been laying the groundwork to get to this level for decades.
i've see interviews with seemingly average red state people who say civil war is needed/is going to happen and they're ready for it.
Many believe Trump is placed by God, a saviour, and him surviving the assassination attempts is their proof. Trump has alluded to this in speeches.
People defend Trump by saying it is his past, he's changed and fighting for them to do God's work.
You cannot reason, open their eyes, or make them believe otherwise because even if there is some doubt they can't go outside their religious beliefs, family, friends, community. Because what if God really does want Trump to succeed, to fight against evil and do His work?
It's One nation under God.
It is endless.

sofialiliy11 · 29/10/2024 16:39

And there are alot of families in the USA that will always vote republican , no matter who the presidential candidate is.

They vote out of loyalty to the party, without looking at the individual candidate

greengreyblue · 29/10/2024 16:41

OP they voted for him when they knew he was a mispgynist and not very bright.

Pickandmixmood · 29/10/2024 16:41

I’m not usually prone to over reaction but I am terrified about the implications for the whole world if he gets in.

I mean it would be hard to find a worst man out there than Trump.

Do you remember when he said all the sexual things to his own daughter.

I remember when an interviewer asked ivanka "what is something that you both like doing " she was talking about hobbies.

and trump said "sex!!"

Yes but now they know he is a rapist and a fascist and they still support him.

Because they support the republican party , not him particularly.

There are so many die hard republicans that will never ever vote democrat

As much as I don't like a lot of his views, as someone married to an American - our financial situation was great when Trump was in

Correlation is not causation.

COVID
Ukraine
Inflation

Pickandmixmood · 29/10/2024 16:43

No to give context if you hadn't seen that one, he didn't mean that she actually liked having sex with him.

The interviewer was saying something like :

"What is something you like doing, that you both have in common "

And trump shouted "sex!". He meant they both enjoyed it (not together)

It was so inappropriate

And ivanka, his daughter, said something like "I was going to say golf!"

HRTQueen · 29/10/2024 16:46

Its really interesting to listen to why people will vote for him they are no all white old gun totting southerners

Many believe he will not act on all he spouts about (even political commentators question this) I think this has really helped him that it is known he would rather be on the golf course than sitting in endless meetings

What we may view as a reason to absolutely not vote for Trump many will overlook or justify, this always happens in politics but rarely with such extremes

I really hope Harris wins and it is a clear win but the US I am not sure it will be such a clear win for her though

greengreyblue · 29/10/2024 16:46

He’s also broken the law! That’s what some love about him! Unbelievable that in that huge country, there is so little choice. I think Harris will get in. Please!!!!

sofialiliy11 · 29/10/2024 16:47

Surely they should have some rule, that if you're a convicted criminal you can't run for president

OneDandyPoet · 29/10/2024 16:49

Nanny0gg · 29/10/2024 16:31

What staggers me are the number of women that will vote for him

It is truly staggering. There are lots of women who are proudly misogynistic, and will stand behind, and support abusive and dangerous men, to the detriment of other women. That’s why, in many ways, the patriarchy and all its systems of control e.g religion, still dominates this planet.

FupaTrooper · 29/10/2024 16:49

Many, many people were absolutely desperate not to vote for Trump. Kamala has been an absolute shit show and botched what should have been a cake walk.

Her platform should have been almost singularly women's rights and abortion. She also needed to work seriously with coaches as she is incapable of getting through an interview coherently.

I wanted to like her so badly but my friends and I all say we are left shaking our heads and wondering how she got to where she is.

She also should have been humble enough to go on Joe Rogan and show all his fans why they should vote for her. She has fumbled at pretty much every turn and I can't figure out whether it is incompetence or shockingly bad advisors.

I despair...

Losing to Trump is such an embarrassment and I am pissed off that we have only had the likes of Hillary and Kamala to represent women. Put a great, talented, charismatic, intelligent, GOOD woman in the mix... But it seems to me like all politicians (on both sides) in both the UK and the US are unbelievably bad.

Seriously, how are all these people in the positions they are in? Clearly they are sociopathic and narcissistic, but it is the talent and intelligence that I am questioning.

The best the western world has to offer is apparently Trump, Boris and all the rest of these idiots? I hope the aliens aren't watching too closely. I would be judging us harshly 😂

Wheresthebeach · 29/10/2024 16:50

No good choice for women at all. Republicans will destroy reproductive rights, Democrats will destroy safe spaces for women, and let any man who says he's a women enter female spaces.

Frying pan and fire.

LaPalmaLlama · 29/10/2024 16:52

KizzyDora · 29/10/2024 16:22

What about all the black Trump voters? The Cubans seem to vote for him in high numbers too. Racist against themselves?

The Cubans in Florida vote Trump because they hate communism and basically want to vote “ as far away from that” as possible if you think of politics as a continuum. They also tend to quite socially conservative and view some Democrat social policies as too liberal.

I disagree. I thought Kamala Harris has come across very well, in all of her speeches and discussions.

Trump, on the other hand, has come across terribly as usual.

Do you remember when he was talking about people eating cats and dogs.

Actually the Veterans Association ran an awful lot better too and vets were actually listened to, so that was a big part for us.

But honestly, both candidates are awful for various reasons.

zxcvasdfqwer55 · 29/10/2024 16:55

When Biden stepped down I was temporarily optimistic that Trump was less likely to get in but now I'm not so sure. Kamala Harris seemed to get off to a fair start then waned, she's not clear enough on policies, seems a bit lightweight. Ultimately she's up against a very strong and unreasonable opponent with a bewildering array of supporters.
I'm not sure how Trump gets away with some of the things he says, he's truly awful and it's mind boggling that people he doesn't respect want to vote for him. I'm dreading him getting back into power but even if he doesn't expect him to kick off again about rigged elections etc!
