I’m scared now I’ve realised this

I was thinking that the US public wouldn’t vote for Trump now that it is so apparent he is such a fascist. It’s terrifying to realise that they already know that and that is why they are going to vote for him.
I’m scared for the world.

It is frightening. A Trump win is a green light for Putin to take Ukraine and then do whatever he wants, and that could be invading part of the EU next.

It's also worrying that there will be people with a regressive agenda in charge and it could have effects on free speech all around the world if, say, a GOP legislature decides that mentioning anything on social media about being LGBTQ+ is 'obscenity' or that seeking social justice is 'anti-American' and demands that platforms clamp down on them.

And that's before we even get on to the abortion ban, and it is a ban, however the phrase it. The 'exceptions' are worded so that a woman has to be at extreme risk of death before medics dare intervene.

It is still possible Harris will win and even if she does, this may only postpone an awful RW US government by another 4 years, so I hope she does. But I fear she won't.

Put a great, talented, charismatic, intelligent, GOOD woman in the mix.

How is Kamala Harris not like that?
Respectfully, your post shows a sentiment that is quite prevalent in the US: no Dem woman candidate will be enough. Ever.
Harris, and Clinton for that matter, far exceed Trump yet the criticism levied against them is quite disgusting. It wouldn't matter if they walked on water, would it?

Harris is very clearly not intelligent. Nor charismatic or talented. Don’t make me laugh😂😂😂

I don't think we are in any position to judge another countries election outcome given the shower of shit we've fielded the past few times.

When America sneezes the world catches a cold.

Of course we are within our rights to speculate, and judge. The outcome of this election will affect us all, directly and indirectly. It’s unlike any other.

KnickersDown - you sound like exactly the sort of woman Trump would approve of - you’re taking the piss?!

SlowPonies · 29/10/2024 18:01

Kamala Harris is a formidable, talented, intellectual and high achieving woman.

Whatever your politics it’s pure sexism not to agree. Just look at her CV. Even just looking at her legal career as an attorney, this is true. Never mind her career as an elected politician. She’s the highest ranking female official in US history. Hate to see women calling her.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 29/10/2024 18:02

Oh yes, I'll give you that. He absolutely does understand people. He understands how to appeal to the very worst in people. He is very skilled at that.

KizzyDora · 29/10/2024 16:22

What about all the black Trump voters? The Cubans seem to vote for him in high numbers too. Racist against themselves?

Punching down. Simple Schadenfreude.
Like WC Tory voters who vote for benefit cuts to folk poorer than them. Or hate asylum seekers and refugees and want to see them knocked out of their small boats.

I've been listening to a few podcasts regarding the election, one focuses on the lies he and his team tells. It is absolutely astonishing the amount and seriousness of the lies and yet no main stream media reports this or questions him. The future of women in America is going to be very dangerous if he wins. It's also very frightening because he has said he will go after those who haven't supported him and I believe that includes other countries. His relationship with Puten and Musk is terrifying.

CNN consistently fact-checks his speeches. I’m sure other mainstream outlets do, too. The trouble is, it doesn’t make the slightest difference, because his supporters don’t get their news from respectable media.

How is she not intelligent?
Please.

You clearly know nothing about her beyond the superficial. Her record as a prosecutor is absolutely awful. She’s a terrible terrible lawyer. If it were not for identity politics, there is no way in hell she would be where she is now.

Could say the same about Trump but x 100, yes ?

Please list the legal cases, so we may review and assess.

Im scared for women in the USA

The frightening things is that women vote for him.

Americans will do what they feel best for them. They have two useless candidates, and have to make a poor choice. But, up to them.

You know there will be an impact on the rest of the world, yes?

For a start he is pro -Putin and anti- Ukraine

WoolyMammoth55 · 29/10/2024 18:16

PortobelloToad · 29/10/2024 16:26

I wouldn’t vote for someone racist and misogynistic just because I’d be financially better off. How abhorrent. Taking away women’s reproductive rights? But you pay less tax so yay!

I'm personally massively pro-choice, but significant numbers of US voters think abortion should be illegal even in cases of rape, incest, and risk to life of the mother.

It's a truly frightening belief but people hold it. And will vote for it.

I don’t understand these types of comments - not particularly aiming this at you, but I see this on lots of threads on this topic. Someone says something negative about Harris and someone always pipes up ‘but Trump is worse’. Yes we all know that, but Trump being awful doesn’t make Harris the good guy. Two things can be true at once.

Choosenandenough · 29/10/2024 17:54

I’m scared for anyone who thinks that Donald Trump would actually be running America. I cannot wrap my head around the fact that people still think the presidential face of any party means anythng.

Depends who he picks as his Chief of Staff

EasternEcho · 29/10/2024 18:21

Victoriancat · 29/10/2024 16:24

As much as I don't like a lot of his views, as someone married to an American - our financial situation was great when Trump was in

Yes, that's because he inherited Obama's economy which he left it in a much better shape than Bush. By the time Trump left he had raised the national debt by almost 8 trillion dollars.

What's your definition of intelligent?

DisabledDemon · 29/10/2024 18:23

We were in Washington the last time he won. People in the city thought that Hillary Clinton would win - even though she wasn't much liked, she was the logical candidate ... and then look what happened. Thing was, outside Washington, she wasn't popular at all and Trump ran away with it.
