I’m scared now I’ve realised this

I was thinking that the US public wouldn’t vote for Trump now that it is so apparent he is such a fascist. It’s terrifying to realise that they already know that and that is why they are going to vote for him.
I’m scared for the world.

Still getting your news off 538.

I get my news about the election from a variety of sources. Haven’t yet seen one talking about Harris flipping a load of red states to win comfortably. All sources are still talking about a difficult to call election with the swing states key.

Livelovebehappy · 05/11/2024 07:43

independencefreedom · 04/11/2024 23:52

I don’t know you so I don’t know who you support. I do know it’s a typical MAGA tactic to lie and be vague on specifics.

Why do you say Harris hasn’t worked hard and lacks integrity? What evidence has formed your opinion?

Why do you use the term ‘rag’? As I said I’ve an extensive network in the USA. I also lived there for many years and have graduate degrees in American history and politics. I follow numerous analysts and the vast majority believe she’s doing well and will win.

You clearly don’t understand American politics nor their electoral system if you think any one candidate can easily ‘wipe the floor’ with another if by that you mean a landslide victory. That hasn’t actually happened since Reagan v Mondale in 1984, 40 years ago.

Edited

You clearly, from your comments on friends and acquaintances campaigning for Harris, heavily support her. And that’s fine. We’re all entitled to our own opinions, right? It’s tedious though when people, especially those to the left in politics, always resort to personal attacks to get their point accross. I’m not for one minute saying my knowledge of American politics is better than yours or anyone else’s. But I know enough to form my own opinion. Which is different from your own. And you’re right, it’s rare that any previous presidential candidates have wiped the floor with anyone, but Trump is a maverick, and absolutely different from any previous candidates. He inspires very strong reactions on both sides. His campaigns are like panto. On paper he absolutely should not be doing as well as he is. We will see how today pans out. I’m sure Americans are intelligent enough to make the right decision. Currently the world needs a strongly lead America. There are too many rogue countries taking the piss at the moment, due in part to American politics and leadership being so poor.

Why would you say
'especially those to the left in politics, always resort to personal attacks to get their point accross'
when those to the right have actually engaged in insulting particular ethnic groups and taken arms against their opponents? The right have resorted to personal - and dangerous - attacks far far more often than the left.

Where exactly did I resort to any personal attack? Why use the term 'always' when you know that is not true? You're not 'just' offering an opinion, you're being dishonest. That's a different thing.

independencefreedom · 05/11/2024 09:20

It's such rubbish that Harris and her supporters are grievously insulting Trump and his supporters more than the other way around - and by the way, it's not working:

Vance in Atlanta on Monday:
“In two days, we are going to take out the trash in Washington, D.C., and the trash’s name is Kamala Harris.”

Nicole Wallace, former Republican on MSNBC last night:
“Oh, JD Vance, You just effed up in a way that I’ve never seen in my political life. And I worked for Sarah Palin.”

By saying I obviously dont know anything about American politics, is a personal attack. I haven't attacked your opinion. You've every right to form your own. I guess Biden saying trump supporters are garbage, is conveniently disregarded. Kamala likening Trump to Hitler. And I stand by my comment that the left will always resort to personal attacks when trying to get their points across. The left really don't like people having any views that dont align with their own.

I didn't even say 'obviously'! So you can't even be accurate and truthful on that 🤷🏾

Re. your other lies:
As you should know, Biden's spokesperson said he "does not view Trump supporters or anybody who supports Trump, as garbage"

Harris did not call Trump Hitler. In response to his comment that he wished he had generals like Hitler did, she said
"It is deeply troubling and incredibly dangerous that Donald Trump would invoke Adolf Hitler, the man who is responsible for the deaths of six million Jews and hundreds of thousands of Americans. All of this is further evidence for the American people of who Donald Trump really is."

So again these are not opinions, they're statements of fact. You may claim you don't support Trump and yet you repeat MAGA mistruths and as such I don't believe you're engaging in good faith.

I think there's a lot of wishful thinking now, NotBadConsidering - almost as if folk feel that declaring something to be the case will make it so - and in these days of social media they get more attention than they'd once have done

Oh come on, his spokes person was trying to retract the comment Biden made in regards to Trump supporters being garbage. The quote is out there, recorded and clear for all?!. He can't say something like that and then his people come along and say he didn't say it. It's pointless us engaging, as we both have totally opposing views. It's in the lap of the God's now. Campaigning done, and the waiting game has begun.

Oh come on, you know he was confused, it's why he's not the candidate. They clarified what he meant.
When has Trump/Vance ever retracted his comments about (for example) legal migrants being dangerous pet killers, or Harris being trash?

'Opposing views'?
In that I spread precise and specific information and you try to spread misinformation and vagaries ungrounded in any evidence as your 'opinion'? Right.

I hope you can deal with your conscience in continually promoting a racist convicted libellous sex predator and pretending you don't support him. For everyone else's sake, I hope he is completely beaten by the democratic process and then faces justice in the courts.

"We have the outside enemy, and then we have the enemy from within, and the enemy from within, in my opinion, is more dangerous than China, Russia and all these countries.”
He also suggested that the military could be called in to handle any unrest on Election Day from "radical left lunatics."
Trump doubled down on those comments during his Tuesday night town hall, also calling Democrats “evil” and “dangerous.”
“They’re Marxists and communists and fascists, and they’re sick,” Trump added. “We have China, we have Russia, we have all these countries. If you have a smart president, they can all be handled. The more difficult are, you know, the Pelosis, these people, they’re so sick and they’re so evil,” Trump said.

He also calls Democrats "vermin" and "scum."

Yet these crybabies whine about one comment from a doddering old man who doesn't know what he's saying half the time. It's pathetic how snowflakey they are when anything is said about Trumpers, but they roar with approval when Trump does far worse about both Democrats and immigrants.
Their hypocrisy in claiming to be offended by such language is off the charts.

He really didn't like Trump before. But he has Musk and Musk's people on a lot so I think that's where it's coming from
Sigh. Everyone keeps talking about the rise of the Nazis in Germany but it feels more analogous to the British East India Company and the Mughal empire.

Worth noting that initial results may not be accurate as it takes a while to count all the notes, including postal and overseas votes.

At least that monstrous Rachel Levine will go.

User14March · 06/11/2024 04:27

@biscuitandcake interesting analogy, can you expand?

biscuitandcake · 06/11/2024 04:44

Powerful Mughal empire. The East India Company come in and operate within their existing power structure, paying taxes bribes etc while establishing factories. Essentially a vassal. Then, when the Mughal empire hits a rocky patch and there's chaos suddenly the East India Company is in charge. And that's how the British got India - it was effectively a private company somehow outmanoouvering one of the most powerful and rich empires in the world
That's kind of how I see the situation with Trump/Musk/Thiel. Musk has absolutely exploited the very big existing problems in America with big business etc. But he isn't just another business man he is going to take power. Not in am evil fascist way. But using the tools America built. He is now the world's richest man, is central to the governance of the world's most powerful country, and has control of some of the most important social media sites AND sits at the centre of influence in silicon valley and influencers. I don't think newspapers should have to always endorse political candidates
But Bezos decision not to do so was absolutely because he was preparing to bend the knee to Musk. So the billionaire owners of other parts of the media aren't going to challenge him.
But he came into that situation as the smaller partner - the one asking for government contracts/subsidies etc. Now he's in the government.

The one saving grace is I don't think they like each other very much. And none of them have much self control or emotional regulation (and don't think this matters). Trump wants Elon to grovel to him and probably thinks he is the dominant person. They are competent in some ways and incompetent in others. But they aren't a sinister united evil organisation. So we will see what happens...
