Just like the UK is a union of 4 countries with home rule, the US is a union of 50 states with home rule (Amendment 10 of the Constitution.)The electoral college is part of that home rule, and it isn't going anywhere. The smaller states would secede, with all that implies, before that ever happened.
People are voting for Trump because of the economy. Inflation is rampant due to government overspending. Fedgov is on course to borrow well over a $trillion (yes, with a T) this year over and above tax receipts which are at an all time high. The 10 million migrants that have come through our wide open borders is costing Americans hundreds of billions of dollars that we don't have. So are all the foreign wars that we are endlessly involved in. Our national debt is $35T and rising every day. This is unsustainable, yet Kamala's still promising new government programs that we don't have $ for, while Trump is running on cutting the size of gov't. Meanwhile, all the gov't borrowing is affecting US credit markets and interest rates to the point that rates actually increased rather than decreased when the Federal Reserve lowered them. Mortgage rates increased along with bonds, so the housing market is essentially frozen as people can't afford the interest rates to buy. That's a brief synopsis, but the bottom line is that average Americans are feeling the pinch of high prices and high interest rates every day. Under these circumstances it was always going to be hard for the incumbent, which Harris is, to win.
American women are more worried about feeding their babies than terminating them, which is why the abortion issue is only #8 on American's priority lists, yet it is Kamala's singular issue. Other than that she is running on Biden's record which is abysmal.
It's a shame that Trump is the Rep nominee, because Biden/Harris were always going to have a hard time being reelected. His policies are not popular at all, and she has not denounced them, instead saying there's nothing she would change, while at the same time saying that she's a "change" candidate. Biden people have been running her campaign and it shows. they won't let her separate herself from him or she's not smart enough to do so.
All the early indications are pointing to a Rep blowout, but it's not because Trump is such a great candidate, it's because he's the only alternative, and people will vote for the devil himself if they are hurting and believe he will make things better.
The Dems shouldn't have sucked. That's the bottom line. They've thrown this election away with both hands and have only themselves to blame.
