Who will win US Election - Gut feelings

EveryBiteinBangkok · 24/10/2024 13:00

I have been half following online and media coverage of the US Election. It is getting close now. What is your gut feeling on who is going to win?

About a month ago, I felt fairly confident that Kamala Harris would win (who I want to win). Now though I am not sure and the amount of rumour and almost conspiracy around it online seems to be reaching fever pitch.

If you had to place a bet (grand national style) who would you go for?

Patton Oswalt: “America is WAAAAAAAAY more sexist than it is racist. And it's pretty fucking racist.”
(I posted that quote on another thread. Harris suffers under both of these)

Sorry, that's just nuts. Trump's "achievements" have been a disaster for the country. Harris has had a distinguished legal career and it's the job of a VP to be largely in the background. She's far from a perfect candidate (there is no perfect candidate) , but I'd take her over avowed admiration for Hitler's relationship with his generals, narcissism, dishonesty and all-round meanness and lack of humane behavior any day of the week..

Think you have been brainwashed unfortunately

Could you please list some of her actual achievements? Thank you.

Trump will be a disaster for the whole world but that’s what we are going to get.

And he’s got dictator fantasies. He tried to hack the last election so we could see him in power for a while. Start digging out your bunker now.

Don’t be so bloody daft

That just means a higher turnout. He lost meaning he didn’t gain as many as Biden gained. Presumably they weren’t all brand new voters.

you posted a lot of Trump 2016 voters didn't vote for him in 2020

maybe but many still did plus a considerable number of new supports

Will Harris have the support Biden has in 2020 that is unlikely but hopefully enough for a clear win

She can’t string a sentence without her laughing like a complete manic

Must admit I don't love her high pitched voice but I have no idea why this would influence a vote for country leader.

I hope it is Harris but I feel Trump will get it simply because I cannot see enough of the US voting in a female president of colour.

She would make a great world leader but the political divide over there is too fragmented. She ticks some boxes for many but not enough for them to vote for her.

I do hope I (and the majority on here too) are very wrong.

I hope it is Harris but I feel Trump will get it simply because I cannot see enough of the US voting in a female president of colour.

Americans voted for a woman when H. Clinton won the popular vote.

Americans voted for a president of colour when they voted for Barak Obama. Twice.

Harris is not a good candidate.

Her only pitch is - he is bonkers and I am not him.

However, we need her to win!

Begsthequestion · 24/10/2024 15:20

But Trump is an actual maniac, so...

GameOfJones · 24/10/2024 15:24

Harris is not an inspiring candidate but I would vote for a potato over Trump any day of the week so I desperately hope she wins.

I think unfortunately, Trump will win in which case I won't be watching the news for the next few years. I have a visceral, skin crawling reaction to him and his cat's arse mouth.

I read one of the top US pollsters Nat Silver is now also predicting trump.

I read Alan Lickman still thinks it will go to Harris. Off to check Nat Silver now.

What about this reply gives you the impression it's a bot?

Maurepas · 24/10/2024 15:29

One may be forgiven for being disappointed that out of population of 345million these are the candidates.

discoballdave · 24/10/2024 15:31

I think Kamala will win the popular vote and Trump will win the electoral college. There'll be recounts, it'll be super close. I think there'll be another Trump presidency.

ladymactíre · 24/10/2024 15:31

Harris made me pray for Trump.

She can't speak, changes accents, lies, doesn't have anything concrete to say, repeats the same previously learned lines and blames Trump. She can speak about abortion and how bad Trump is. He's at fault for everything that's wrong in America, although she is in the government

"Well, Bill, the work that we have done has resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by, or a result of, many things, including our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region." What?!

The need to do things that 'haven't been done, but need to be done'

"We need to guard that spirit. We have to guard that spirit. Let it always inspire us. Let it always be the source of our optimism, which is that spirit that is uniquely American. Let that then inspire us by helping us to be inspired to solve the problems that so many face, including our small business owners,"

  • middle class, opportunity economy, dreams ambitions aspirations - they can make a drinking game with these.

I can't even imagine her trying to negociate peace with Putin, or talk to the Iranians

He's the only man to break my mother's vocal opinionating on all things political. When he won last time she said 'turn it off. He isn't president here and we don't need to look at him'.

pestothepenguin · 24/10/2024 15:34

Trump

I was aghast and in disbelief that he won last time.

This time I'm prepared for it.

RamblingEclectic · 24/10/2024 15:34

An authoritarian with a weak track record in politics, a personal history unwanted in leadership, and some concerns around their spouse. They will be managed by unelected government officials and be doing very little of what they claim so their party can dangle that carrot again in four years when we will again be wondering about why the parties put their power behind who they do.

No gut feeling on which one will win, it's this either way on the coin toss. My gut feeling is that either way the results will once against be contested, the question is only how bad it will be this time. I'm more worried about that than what either will do as President.

Waboofoo · 24/10/2024 15:37

Trump’s former Chief of Staff (John Kelly) said Trump is a Fascist who praised Adolf Hitler.

That is fucking scary.

LakelandDreams · 24/10/2024 15:37

Interesting how we are quite a few pages in and still nobody can list Harris's actual achievements other than she's been the VP.

mightaswellfaceityoureaddictedtolove · 24/10/2024 15:38

I'd love it to be Harris, but I think Trump.
