Who will win US Election - Gut feelings

EveryBiteinBangkok · 24/10/2024 13:00

I have been half following online and media coverage of the US Election. It is getting close now. What is your gut feeling on who is going to win?

About a month ago, I felt fairly confident that Kamala Harris would win (who I want to win). Now though I am not sure and the amount of rumour and almost conspiracy around it online seems to be reaching fever pitch.

If you had to place a bet (grand national style) who would you go for?

Well with the massive numbers Trump got it sent Harris home very early. Even if they planned to put on a fight the race wasn’t tight at all.

And yet Trump got less votes in this election than when he lost in 2020.

Does that really matter when it's such a clean sweep of swing states, senate and popular vote?

Not sure about House of Representatives yet

But why are people still spouting that the 2020 results were suspicious? After all
the court cases surrounding irregularities were thrown out

Do you realise how that affected trust in democracy?

You should be thankful that Biden has reminded America what a peaceful transfer of power looks like.

So what? He won and Harris went home early. The margin was wide enough not to be a close race as Obama and the polls were calling for. That is what I am grateful for. I think your lot overdid it with the speculation about the race being closer and Trump absolutely denying your triumph.

@ChannelLightVessel
There HASN'T been a swing to the Republicans.
That is the whole point.
Same as there WASN'T a swing to Labour in the UK on July 4th

In the UK the Tory vote collapsed and was split by Reform.
In the USA 12,000,000 Democrat voters stayed home
they did not vote for ANYBODY

BlastedPimples · 08/11/2024 16:10

@Talkinpeace is that really true? Democrats didn't vote? So many of them?

Talkinpeace · 08/11/2024 16:15

@BlastedPimples
2016 : Hilary Clinton 65.8m votes ~ Donald Trump 62.9m votes
2020 : Joe Biden 81.3m votes ~ Donald Trump 74.2m votes
2024 : Kamala Harris 69.0m votes ~ Donald Trump 73.4m votes

Trump got less in 2024 than in 2020
Harris got MUCH MUCH less in 2024 than Biden did in 2020

Maggiethecat · 08/11/2024 16:15

@Talkinpeace - I know discontent with the Gaza/Israel position was also one reason but will wait for the breakdown on this group.

Well as DT doesn’t support project 25 why should they?

Or so he says. I wouldn’t believe a word emanating from his ugly duck lips.
Watch this space. 🙄

@Maggiethecat
The Exit Poll showed that foreign affairs were important to only 4% of Americans.
Foreign news is NOT a thing for the vast bulk of the population. They do not travel outside the USA, they are not really interested in other countries.

But I’d like to know the reasons that 12M Dem voters did not vote.

He did support it, before it started making him look bad.

He also implemented the same group's 2016 version of the document when he was last president.

31 out of 38 authors of the Heritage Foundation's Project 2025 plan are closely linked to Trump, mostly serving in his last administration.

Talkinpeace · 08/11/2024 16:51

@Maggiethecat
Indeed
Finding out the reasons for that is UTTERLY key

BlastedPimples · 08/11/2024 18:18

Yes. Really interesting why they didn't.
