Who will win US Election - Gut feelings

EveryBiteinBangkok · 24/10/2024 13:00

I have been half following online and media coverage of the US Election. It is getting close now. What is your gut feeling on who is going to win?

About a month ago, I felt fairly confident that Kamala Harris would win (who I want to win). Now though I am not sure and the amount of rumour and almost conspiracy around it online seems to be reaching fever pitch.

If you had to place a bet (grand national style) who would you go for?

A month ago I would've said Harris, but now I'm not sure. I've just watched the 'I'm a nerd' clip, as her explanation for not being able to answer questions until she's researched the subject (followed, of course, by her laughing). She just comes across as so uncomfortable, like she has a massive dose of imposter syndrome, which doesn't really inspire confidence. Good luck to her, though.

HRTQueen · 24/10/2024 14:29

a few weeks ago I would have said Harris

now i am not so sure and in 2016 and 2020 Trumps support was underestimated

The attacking of Trump makes no difference to his supporters and those who are not overly impressed by Harris will largely dismiss this as well we know this about Trump its nothing new

Harris needs to step up and rather than attack or make people fear Trump show the country what she can do for the country rather than what Trump might do

MorrisZapp · 24/10/2024 14:29

Trump. And I'm still traumatised from the last time - DP literally woke me up to tell me.

Trump (hopefully)

Why do you hope for that?

Hazeby · 24/10/2024 14:31

Harris.

Because there’s a lot of 2016 Trump voters who didn’t vote for him again in 2020. Nothing has changed so why would they go back to him?

ThatsNotMyTeen · 24/10/2024 14:32

Trump sadly

I heard a video may drop soon showing Trump being in appropriate with a young woman. But even if this is true (there is so much rumour online), I am not convinced it would hurt him at this point- with his civil conviction and all the other allegations not seeming to bother his followers.

More inappropriate than Biden pinching that primary aged girl’s nipple in full view of the press?

Trump received nearly 63 million votes in 2016 in 2020 he received over 74 million votes and this was after he had been president

in 2020 after Biden's 82 million votes Trumps was the second highest ever recorded

If Trump lost voters he certainly gained a huge number of voters

Devilsadvocat · 24/10/2024 14:43

Trump and he will piss off Starmer.

VeryQuaintIrene · 24/10/2024 14:44

Praying for Harris with all my heart. I think it's too close to call and everything will depend on turnout. Loads of people are early voting where I live, which is historically better for Dems.

Not just Starmer, we'll have a government full of people pretending that they didn't really mean that thing that they said not so long ago.

That just means a higher turnout. He lost meaning he didn’t gain as many as Biden gained. Presumably they weren’t all brand new voters.

His swearing in ceremony.

BrandyandGinger · 24/10/2024 14:53

I still think it will be Harris. I think that American women won't give up their reproductive rights easily.
Hillary Clinton didn't campaign hard enough in the swing states at the end of her campaign, and the Democrats learned from it. They have the big hitters working hard this time, they'll campaign to the bitter end.

Onand · 24/10/2024 14:58

I hope it is Harris but I feel Trump will get it simply because I cannot see enough of the US voting in a female president of colour.

She would make a great world leader but the political divide over there is too fragmented. She ticks some boxes for many but not enough for them to vote for her.

I do hope I (and the majority on here too) are very wrong.

OnlyYellowRoses · 24/10/2024 15:00

I really hope it's Kamala

Earlier this year Biden was also really creepy to the 12 year old daughter of one of the US hostages who were released in a prisoner swap. At the White House he pulled her in for an uncomfortable hug, and told her “Remember, no serious guys until you're 30” !!

MonkeyToHeaven · 24/10/2024 15:01

Putin

alwaysflyingoff · 24/10/2024 15:03

Please, please let it be Harris

LakelandDreams · 24/10/2024 15:04

Hopefully Trump. I wouldn't say I'm a fan of his but Harris is actively incompetent and he does have some good things he's done. I've been shocked by her word salad interviews and the fact that nobody can name anything she has actually achieved.

Ponderingwindow · 24/10/2024 15:05

I am afraid we are going to be screwed by the electoral college yet again. There is no doubt in my mind that Harris will win the vote by strict count. it’s going to come down to a state by state decision.

I really hate our setup. It was built for another time when communication was limited and the sheer size of the continent was significant.

3ormorecharacters · 24/10/2024 15:06

My pessimistic side says Trump and that's what I'm mentally preparing myself for, but I wouldn't count Harris out. There doesn't seem to be as much enthusiasm for Trump now. Plenty of people switching from R to D but virtually none in the other direction and I imagine undecideds are more likely to vote D or abstain than vote Trump. Polls are notoriously unreliable and there's good evidence that they're being actively manipulated by the Republicans. The Democrats have been targeting Texas and to a lesser extent Florida in a way which suggests their internal polling says they might be winnable. If they do pull that off, the classic Swing States won't matter and it will be game over on election night.

Sorry, that's just nuts. Trump's "achievements" have been a disaster for the country. Harris has had a distinguished legal career and it's the job of a VP to be largely in the background. She's far from a perfect candidate (there is no perfect candidate) , but I'd take her over avowed admiration for Hitler's relationship with his generals, narcissism, dishonesty and all-round meanness and lack of humane behavior any day of the week..

I think Trump unfortunately. I think he’s a very dangerous man to have in charge of a country.

Really? Why?
