What is on your kitchen counters?

Just that really. I’m asking because my friend thinks it’s odd to keep a toaster on the counter at all times. But I find it odd that she keeps her toaster in the cupboard when it’s not in use…

On my counters I have, a sink caddy, hot drinks station (kettle, Hotel Chocolate Velvetiser, tea, coffee and sugar canisters), a utensil jar, toaster, microwave (with a storage basket on top), a rotating herb/spice rack and a fruit bowl…

I have a toaster, a tea tray (kettle, tea bags etc on), a marble slab next to the hob with a few (pretty) utensils and olive oil on.

I don't like too much on the counters - it feels cluttered! I would 100% have appliances hidden in my next kitchen, either in a pantry or in the cupboards with the lift up platforms in.

Crockpot, bread maker, Alexa, a wooden tray, cacti, succulents, moka pot, bean grinder.

sueelleker · 20/10/2024 20:13

Kettle, bread machine, air fryer and Instant Pot. All lined up at the back of the worktop.

One cup boiler, kettle, AeroPress stand thing, microwave, toaster, Thermomix, knife block, airfryer.

Edited to add: food waste bin, salt and pepper grinders and olive oil

Pascha · 20/10/2024 20:15

Too fucking much. In my ideal world I would have nothing bar a small breadbin and a couple of aesthetically pleasing jars filled with pasta and coffee.

In reality from left to right:
Large breadbin
Toaster
Egg box
Flapjack tin
Charging station complete with vomiting wires and random charging electricals

Kettle
Knife block
Collection of tea, coffee, sugar, hot chocolate, salt and pepper cellar, cooking oil

The windowsill has herbs in various states of sadness growing in pots, washing up liquid, sponge and cloth pot.

I am not a tidy person by nature.

Isitfridayyetsophie · 20/10/2024 20:15

On the worktops we have toaster, air fryer, coffee machine, kitchen aid and tea/coffee/sugar canisters. No kettle as we have a quooker tap, otherwise that would be out too.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 20/10/2024 20:16

Most days it feels like my entire life is on the kitchen counter...

MinistryofThyme · 20/10/2024 20:17

Coffee machine, small dish with washing up liquid and hand soap on it, kettle on the hob, fruit bowl. I don't like things being out. DP thinks I'm mad 😂

ETA things like air fryer, KitchenAid, toaster, instapot, blender etc are in drawers / cupboards.

hopeishere · 20/10/2024 20:17

Oil on a ceramic plate thing
Kettle
Toaster
Coffee machine and pod holder
Thing for the dish brush and washing up liquid
Breadboard
Bluetooth speaker (never used actually told DS he could move it up to his room today)
Empty fruit bowl
Plant

It did a big long counter top!

Clearinguptheclutter · 20/10/2024 20:17

Too much. Kettle, toaster, coffee machine, bread in (usually with bits that don’t fit piled on top). Food waste caddy. Various other bits that shouldn’t be there really.

however it’s definitely normal to have a toaster on the worktop. Odd to put it away and bring it out.

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 20/10/2024 20:17

Probably a load of crap at the moment. The whole place looks a mess, but It's taken me 2 days to be arsed to even get out of bed to have a shower. Although I did empty the bin at the same time ready for bin day tomorrow.

MissAmbrosia · 20/10/2024 20:18

Toaster, kettle, coffee machine, breadbin (with tea and coffee containers on top), kitchen roll holder, cooking utensil holder, fruit bowl. My kitchen is not that big but plenty of worktop space around these things.

StarDolphins · 20/10/2024 20:18

I have kettle, air fryer, a bottle of mulled wine from last year. A squishmallow, 4 pens, 3 shopping lists & a tub of hubba bubba and an empty bottle of Prosecco

My DD really needs to clean up after herself!

Ozgirl75 · 20/10/2024 20:18

I have an air fryer, knife block, kettle, utensils pot, pasta jar and a fruit bowl. I have one of those hidden cupboard things (can’t remember what the kitchen designer called it) for my toaster, microwave and soda stream.

ElsaLion · 20/10/2024 20:19

I try to keep the kitchen surfaces free if clutter, so not much beyond things we use regularly, such as the kettle, bread bin, knife stand, utensils pot, stand aid mixer, bialetti and milk frother.

Wiaa · 20/10/2024 20:20

A sink caddy, a fishtank, tea coffee sugar caddies, olive oil and balsamic vinegar, scales a utensil pot and an air fryer, toaster and panini press

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 20/10/2024 20:20

Things that are intentionally on the kitchen counter

Washing up liquid and brushes in a caddy, coffee machine and basket of pods, soda stream, kettle, tea and coffee canisters, utensil jar x 2, knife block, chopping board storage, air fryer, toaster, bread bin, microwave, fruit bowl.

That all implies my kitchen is large. It's not.

SemmaLina · 20/10/2024 20:20

Toaster and bread bin
liquid soap and fairy liquid by sink , and a pottery bowl that the dish brush , cloth and scourer are kept in
We have a quooker tap , so don’t need a kettle
I don’t like clutter so try and keep worktops clear

BusySittingDown · 20/10/2024 20:21

Blender, kettle, tea and coffee canisters, toaster and weighing scales.

mamaduckbone · 20/10/2024 20:21

Kettle, toaster and bread bin on one side, microwave and caddy of cooking utensils on the other side. Also, various bits and pieces like and oil and vinegar set, pot of cooking salt, butter dish. I would say most people have their toaster on the side unless they have loads of cupboard space.

Floralnomad · 20/10/2024 20:22

Toaster , banana hook , kettle , tea pot stand , egg basket , halogen oven , velvetiser , microwave . Plenty of work surface left it’s fairly large .

FannyCradocksDoughnut · 20/10/2024 20:22

Too much!

Composting caddy, wine rack, radio, scales, coffee maker, fruit bowl, breadmaker, bread bin full of glasses, storage jars for flour, oats, lentils, seeds, sultanas, bread slicer, microwave, toaster, cookery books, biscuit barrel, kettle, coffee tea sugar etc. Air fryer, container full of utensils, oil, salt.

It's a good job it's a big kitchen but I really should declutter!

JayeAshe · 20/10/2024 20:22

A microwave oven and a sink drainer . If I had my way there'd be no drainer. Everything else is away out of sight 😁

AgileGreenSeal · 20/10/2024 20:23

Microwave, bottle of olive oil, kettle, little tiny set of drawers, bread bin in which resides the toaster.
that’s it.

Whatnextaaaahhh · 20/10/2024 20:23

Kettle, toaster, post holder, vase. I would rather have the toaster in a cupboard but DH wants it out on top so we do. I can't remember the last time it was used so to me it makes more sense go keep it in a cupboard.
