What's your really pointless super power?

I can tell, just from a photo of their face, if a person has a lisp.

I have yet to find a use for this undoubted super power.

What's your really useless super power?

I can lick my own nose. It doesn't often come in handy, but it's nice to know I can.

I have the shortest tongue ever - it has been medically noted. I envy your cat-like lick

millimurphy · 04/10/2024 20:17

I can tell when chickens are ill with just a quick look.

troppibambini6 · 04/10/2024 20:21

I'm brilliant at getting splinters out without hurting.

KnickerlessFlannel · 04/10/2024 20:21

I'm fabulous at putting up masking tape

DuckonaBike · 04/10/2024 20:22

I can read upside down too! Didn’t realise it was a super power; I assumed everyone could do it!

I can also drink milk that’s gone a bit off without noticing. This used to be useful, but a while ago I moved to plant milk (as it’s better for the planet etc) so it’s not really useful any more.

I can always look at the clock at a time that is exactly the same in hours and minute eg 17:17. DH does not find it interesting when I tell him. My favourite time is 22:22 of course 😂.

11:11! And 3:33 (thankfully not as frequently)

Also frequently manage to double text at 00:00

My DP doesn't find it interesting either (especially when I text him at 3:33)

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 04/10/2024 20:23

I can tell when it's going to start raining by the smell.

MagentaRavioli · 04/10/2024 20:23

I can look at a person’s face and see how they looked when they were young (5 or 6) and how they will look when they are old. I guess I’m like one of those websites where you send a pic and it returns you aged 70, except I can do it in my head. I realise this is quite odd.

StuntNun · 04/10/2024 20:25

I can perfectly fold an A4 sheet of paper into three to fit in a DL-sized envelope. It's a superpower that did actually have a point up until we stopped sending letters and started emailing instead.

mackers1 · 04/10/2024 20:27

I'm quite accurate with measurements just by looking. Could be in cm, inches, feet or metres. That's quite helpful.

OtherS · 04/10/2024 20:30

@Pebbles16 If it's any consolation I have a lisp - which the op could presumably tell if I shared a picture! I don't think the payoff is worth it really as I very rarely want a wet nose.

SomePig · 04/10/2024 20:31

Not me, but a child of my acquaintance: can tell you which person in her class of 30 a lost jumper belongs to, just by sniffing it 🥴

AutumnGarland · 04/10/2024 20:32

I can tell the time by the sun

HeidiBlum · 04/10/2024 20:33

I’m another who can read text upside down which came in useful in a classroom.
I can easily see if an item isn’t level and I can smell, long before others, humans’ urine - perhaps I should be a sniffer dog. 😂

TheCatCameBack112 · 04/10/2024 20:34

I am a super smeller too. I can detect all sorts of smells on what must be very small ppm. Sometimes I come into a room and just have to stop cause there's 'a smell'. I hate it if my husband has had a single beer or a squirt of garlic dressing on his lunch as the smell is just so pungent to me.

I think because my eye sight is really quite bad, and I'm also losing some hearing now (too many concerts down the front), my sense of smell is more pronounced. I am very good at checking out of date food

Sandandsea123 · 04/10/2024 20:34

I always know which direction the sea is wherever I am

FoxtrotOscarKindaDay · 04/10/2024 20:35

Also assumed everyone could read upside down.

Can smell rain and snow (and possibly shades of blue sky)

Is being ambidextrous a superpower? I don't sign my name with both hands, the signatures would be different, but otherwise whatever hand I pick up a pen is the one I use to write.

TickingAlongNicely · 04/10/2024 18:08

I am extremely good at retrieving bricks from the pool floor, and I can read upside down as quick as most people can read the right way up.

I haven't tried both at once.

I can read fluently upside down too.

PyreneanAubrie · 04/10/2024 20:37

MyTaupeHare · 04/10/2024 18:24

What the frick! TWO of you on here can read upside down?!

And people can casually write backwards?

This thread is revelatiary.

And another. I've been able to read fluently upside down since I was a little kid.

I can also do the guessing the time to within a couple of minutes...

Feckedupbundle · 04/10/2024 20:38

I can tell you where anywhere is by the postcode as long as it's in the East Midlands, and also identify the location of somewhere in the same area by the phone dialling code.
This was very useful in a job that I once had,but as I left that job over 25 years ago,it's pretty useless now. Unless you count annoying the DDs on car trips,by saying 'Do you know that the post code here is PE24 and the phone code 01754',as being useful.

Mistralli · 04/10/2024 20:38

I am invisible to most automatic doors. I walk up and they just don't open... but will do for other people!

ParrotPirouette · 04/10/2024 20:39

I can spot a copy cat thread 😃

I can lift/ move very full (to the brim) glasses of liquid without spilling. Mum is the same so it's obviously genetic.

I can also tell within millimeters if things are flat/level/central. Useful for putting pictures up but not much else. Though saying that I work in design so perhaps it comes up. The skill very much predates the job though.

Oh this is mine too. Never have to use a tape measure when hanging pictures, can get them perfectly centered or aligned, just doing it by eye.

I always know which direction the sea is wherever I am

That's any one of the 360° on the compass, anywhere on Earth!
