What's your really pointless super power?

I can tell, just from a photo of their face, if a person has a lisp.

I have yet to find a use for this undoubted super power.

What's your really useless super power?

I’m brilliant at folding laundry. It was the only domestic skill that my ex MIL acknowledged I possessed.

smallchange · 04/10/2024 18:41

I'm excellent at picking things up with my toes. You'd be amazed how rarely it's useful.

Boobygravy · 04/10/2024 18:41

I can guess quantities eg fruit, veg etc just by looking or holding the bag they’re in.

I can also look at change in a tin and know within a few pence how much is there.

I can tell which seeds are bad seeds on mario super stars

I can read and write easily in "mirror writing", always have been able to (if I write left-handed then it automatically comes out backwards - but everyone can read it if it's held up to a mirror).

Still waiting for an occasion for this to come in useful.

Funnily enough, my daughter can do the same. When she was learning to write, she would do this automatically (one line of forwards writing followed by one line of backwards writing). I had to explain to her that, at the end of every line, you have to go back to the left-hand side and start again writing left-to-right again. Otherwise most people can't read it. She was a bit annoyed at having to do this.

I have found my people! 😁

I can put something on to cook and know when its ready 10 seconds before the timer goes off

Me too!!

HandDefence · 04/10/2024 19:12

I can raise my eyebrows independently of each other. I can make them jump up and down to a tune for example. Try it.

OtherS · 04/10/2024 19:15

I can lick my own nose. It doesn't often come in handy, but it's nice to know I can.

Well you could go and freedive for pearls. So that is not pointless.

Apart from I really can barely swim!

Onlyonekenobe · 04/10/2024 19:19

I can eyeball the most perfectly sized and shaped Tupperware box from the drawer, first time. Useless, because a larger one would do just as well.

My totally not useless superpower, however, is inventing a flawless system of storing boxes with matching lids 😇

CMOTDibbler · 04/10/2024 19:23

I'm another upside down reader. I read incredibly fast the right way up and still faster than the majority of people upside down. It is however super useful as I can read things at the same time as someone is holding it to read themselves.
DHs superpower is watching the start of Grand Designs and knowing how much it will cost and what will go wrong in the building as soon as they show the concept.

Cerialkiller · 04/10/2024 19:24

I can lift/ move very full (to the brim) glasses of liquid without spilling. Mum is the same so it's obviously genetic.

I can also tell within millimeters if things are flat/level/central. Useful for putting pictures up but not much else. Though saying that I work in design so perhaps it comes up. The skill very much predates the job though.

DrRiverSong · 04/10/2024 19:33

I can colour match accurately from memory with no sample. Its only once been useful when I found a random wedding item that perfectly matched my bridesmaids dresses.

BrokenLink · 04/10/2024 19:47

I can tell if a baby is a boy or girl just by their face.

candlewhickgreen · 04/10/2024 19:48

I can guess a well known song from the first few bars.

ladymalfoy45 · 04/10/2024 19:50

Knowing what my cat wants to eat. Like whether she's gone off the brand she's been eating for the last four years of her life.
Just kidding.

Callimanco · 04/10/2024 19:53

My daughter can say sentences backwards, so that if you record it and you play it forwards, it sounds like what she was saying. I find this totally amazing. Reached out to a researcher who got back to us and said being able to reverse sentences phonetically is incredibly rare.

Here she is responding to some random sentences, unrehearsed, last year

But it's completely useless.

Callimanco · 04/10/2024 19:57

Is reading upside down rare? I can read upside down just as well as right way up. It's useful to read comments people are writing about your responses in interviews :D

The3rdWatermelon · 04/10/2024 19:58

I can smell when the cat is about to be sick. Unfortunately I can’t do anything to stop him.

I've never thought of it as being odd, but people react oddly when they realise I'm doing it!

I can make one eye look forward and turn the other one into my nose.

I can, too! I can make one point Northeast and the other Southwest, as well.

Pebbles16 · 04/10/2024 20:15

MyTaupeHare · 04/10/2024 18:24

What the frick! TWO of you on here can read upside down?!

And people can casually write backwards?

This thread is revelatiary.

I can also do both.
Have found reading upside down useful in a job to check out people's notes, but they're not usually revelatory - although I did manage to notice I was being made redundant before the words came out of my boss's mouth which helped me to remain "relatively" composed (ie not blub uncontrollably)

Bollylops · 04/10/2024 20:16

Intuition. Also knowing that when bad things happen, good things eventually follow.

TheSproutOfWrath · 04/10/2024 20:16

I can read upside down too. Also annoyingly I can hear electricity.

ChopstickNovice · 04/10/2024 20:17

@HighPrecisionGhosts me too!!
