What's your really pointless super power?

I can tell, just from a photo of their face, if a person has a lisp.

I have yet to find a use for this undoubted super power.

What's your really useless super power?

I can do the phonetic alphabet. Had to learn it in the 80s when I had a summer job working for BT taking pager messages!

Hoppinggreen · 04/10/2024 17:59

Apart from supersmell powers I can recognise handwriting.

RisingSunn · 04/10/2024 17:59

I can identify all bottled water by tasting. (Without seeing the bottle).

nnjj · 04/10/2024 17:59

When filling up my weekly pill box with various medications, I can tip exactly 7 into my hand without thinking about it. This happens far too much for it to be a coincidence and not a really pointless super power!

brimfulofpacha · 04/10/2024 18:03

I can get eggshell out of cracked eggs instantly. My kids think it's amazing. I just wish I wasn't such a kitchen klutz that I get it in there in the first place!

FamilyPhoto · 04/10/2024 18:05

I can wiggle my ears.
I can fall asleep.at will - that one is actually handy if I need a nap before a night shift.

I can't swim particularly well but I can hold my breath under water for ages. Longer than anyone I know

Well you could go and freedive for pearls. So that is not pointless.

I am extremely good at retrieving bricks from the pool floor, and I can read upside down as quick as most people can read the right way up.

I haven't tried both at once.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 04/10/2024 18:08

I can always look at the clock at a time that is exactly the same in hours and minute eg 17:17. DH does not find it interesting when I tell him. My favourite time is 22:22 of course 😂.

GagaBinks · 04/10/2024 17:21

I can make one eye look forward and turn the other one into my nose.

I can do this too. I did it the other day to check I could still do it and gave myself eye strain.

paranoidmumdroid1 · 04/10/2024 18:09

I can tip unfinished wine from the glass back into the bottle without drips or spillage. However I suspect that the majority on Mumsnet would not need to practice such a skill often 😂

workplaceshenanigans · 04/10/2024 18:12

I can have a long conversation with you and spend a good while just chatting, despite the fact that you have greeted me by name and fully expect me to remember you and our previous conversations, I have no idea who you are.

viques · 04/10/2024 18:14

I can read upside down. I mean the book is upside down, not me.

I can also always find a parking space, but that is quite a useful superpower to have. I am thinking of calling myself Sparker as my superpower character name, haven’t thought of an outfit yet though.

So can I! I feel so validated 😂

Edenvale · 04/10/2024 18:22

They used to write backwards in war rooms and was a sought-after skill. The comms people would be on one side of a glass wall with all their signal machines, and the generals would be on the other with their maps and plans. The comms operators would write incoming info backwards on the glass wall so the generals could read it and work out their battle strategies.

Crazyeight · 04/10/2024 18:23

I can put something on to cook and know when its ready 10 seconds before the timer goes off

This thread is revelatiary.

I can see what you’re thinking. Pointless because I’d rather I couldn’t.

LetGoLetThem1234 · 04/10/2024 18:29

I have alopecia. I wear a wig. A cheap one - cost of living etc.

I don't care too much about it. I am too old to be bothered .

That is my completely pointless and useless super power. 🙈😂

But...if anyone needs help with coming to terms with alopecia PM. I am 30 plus years in and counting. 🙄

Twenty years ago I would have said snap on both counts.
I can still wiggle my ears but can no longer sleep at will. I miss that super talent

Rumforme · 04/10/2024 18:34

I can tell when things are going to kick off in eg a pub with 5 mins notice so there's enough time to leave safely before it starts.

I can close down businesses just by visiting them and liking them.

One day I discover them-next time they’ve gone. I don’t take it personally.

It rarely comes up now I don't hang out in dodgy pubs any more!
