Told at New Look they "don't do paper receipts"

Anyone else had this?
I was in New Look in the trafford centre today and was asked for my email address for the receipt (standard practice now I know)
I said no thank you I would prefer a paper receipt (standard acceptable reply) and the cashier said no they dont do paper receipts. I said I wasn't going to give her my email address and after a bit of this back and forth and a short stand off she eventually produced a receipt from under the counter.

Is this what New Look staff are asking of their staff now? To lie in order to harvest personal information?
It was really uncomfortable for both me and the poor NMW cashier and has made me less inclined to want to shop there again.

@Cuwins further to that, I had my phone stolen and the only reason I could still access my train ticket and get home was by logging into my app on someone else's device.

If I had my wallet stolen or lost the paper one, it's gone.

Most of all this arguing is because people don't like change; but they do like arguing the toss and making up imaginary problems as to why the older method is better.

Isn't the whole crux of it, not about not wanting change but having the option to choose? NL would prefer to have digital receipts via email - fine, but do not pressurise their staff or customers to accept it, some customers prefer a paper email - there should not be any hassle in providing one.
