To hate seasonal decor

Just that really- I was watching stories on instagram and I can’t help but notice people decorate differently for different seasons- eg. Pumpkin cushions/ornaments, halloweeny props (in sebtember) Xmas yeah that I understand. Summer different colour cushion covers, even rug changes etc. Easter little ornamental decorations, daffodil door wreaths etc etc. But it’s not celebs it’s everyday people! Has this always been a thing??

speak for yourself. I'm Pagan, and have been decorating for Samhain for nearly 25 years. My decorations get re-used same as the xmas decs, they're out for a bit, then go away for a year.

Should i not celebrate the biggest sabbat in my religious calendar because people like you think the décor is tat?

Not everyone is christian, not everyone is decorating for 'Halloween' and its nice to be able to buy things to add to the collection, it used to be difficult and involved making most of it myself.

Do you feel the same about Divali decorations? No? Then wind your neck in.

Edited

Yeah you kinda made this about something it’s not.

id say plastic stick on bats for 99p- not reusable is classed as cheap tat. If your opinion differs, no problem. I’d never class that as rude 😉

Rude and goady. You know that though, because you cannot possibly be that ignorant. You have to resurect an old thread because you have too little to think about . I am done with you, because I cannot argue with your stupidity.

Calm down. Plastic bats are not worth this sort of angst.

justasking111 · 20/09/2024 21:01

My mother used to use pussy willow, reeds that were velvety, we had to carefully peel away leaves of a dried out plant to reveal a translucent core. It was then the eiderdowns came back, the fires were lit, the tea trolley came into it's own, we had long toasting forks to make the best toast.

Resurrect an old thread? I wrote this just this evening.
‘rude and goady, ignorant, stupid’

There’s only one person being rude here.
’i cannot argue with your stupidity’

no one is arguing here? It’s just differing opinions.
enjoy your evening

This just popped up on my FB and I think it’s quite apt.

I spend a lot of time in my house due to illness and I love my cushion covers and autumn flower bouquet. I’ve had them for 3 years now and intend to reuse for as long as they last.

Decorations like this are very common in Germany and Scandinavia. I’m German and have seasonal decorations which are 50 years old. The reason it’s becoming more common in the UK is that, due to German/Scandi cultural influences and ancestry, seasonal decoration is very common in the USA and this is then reaching the UK via the internet. Of course, capitalism means that everything has to be made out of plastic and shipped from China, but that’s consumerism rather than the tradition of decorating seasonally, so…

Exactly! Excellently worded.

Oldfatandfrumpy · 20/09/2024 21:07

Not my cup of tea at all but if people enjoy it so be it. However the recent thread by the overwhelmed mum that was stressed out by the expectations of all these random pointless things demonstrates that people don't necessarily enjoy it, they do it because social media makes them think it's compulsory they feel they have to

Jellybeanz456 · 20/09/2024 21:09

Nope not always been a thing! Just coping American things like always.

Oldfatandfrumpy · 20/09/2024 21:09

Sorry that should say some people

Outnumberedmummy2022 · 20/09/2024 20:49

What have women got to do with this?

it’s really not that kinda argument- sorry.

It's women who buy this stuff and decorate the house, let them enjoy it. I'm sure they don't give a crap what you think.

Prescottdanni123 · 20/09/2024 21:09

I make all of my seasonal decor. I enjoy crafts and if I make seasonal decorations, I actually use them. And it lasts for years.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 20/09/2024 21:10

I blame the empty white and grey decor- it’s all a bit boring so you need a few ornaments to perk it up a bit, the blank canvas decoration lends itself to being a backdrop to this sort of thing. If you always had pattern and colour and nicknacks on display, there’s no room for additional seasonal ones.

we decorate outside for Halloween, not in the house. If I’m hosting at Easter I have table decorations that come out each year.

Good. I hope they don’t give a crap. I’m not posting to change peoples ways 😂 I’m having a grumble.

With the exception of Christmas, I hate it too. It always looks so tacky. Plastic, faded flowers are never a good look

You are not, you are goading and insulting to get a reaction.
You have copied a post that was on here a few weeks ago

Yes, because that is how we choose to decorate our houses...

SprigatitoYouAndIKnow · 20/09/2024 21:21

We have pumpkin decor up year round. Love a good pumpkin!

StarSlinger · 20/09/2024 21:22

Is someone forcing you to buy seasonal decorations?

gardenmusic · 20/09/2024 21:23

Actually I do. I hate these ignorant 'superior' goads who come on here to denegrate other women (and perhaps men) who are made happy by decorating their houses. They can see no further than B and M and plastic tat and think the same of us. They show their ignorance and prejudice in every post.

RubyGemStone · 20/09/2024 21:24

I'm not into the Halloween stuff but surely there has always been an element of this. I remember both my nan and mum taking down heavy curtains, changing some of the table and bed linen and wrapping up rugs as the weather became warmer. Fewer candles and more vases etc Then all in reverse as autumn hit, always the bloody knitted draft excluders and matching tea cosy! This was in London council houses not some fancy manor.

Isn't this sort of what spring cleaning is too?

Also, see it from my Eastern and Northern European friends.

SunsetSkylane · 20/09/2024 21:28

Who has the time and money for it? I think it's another thing women get foisted on them, who can honestly be arsed.

justasking111 · 20/09/2024 21:29

I have giant fir cones that come out this weekend. Gleaned the from a field next to a church yard.

I really miss the larch tree from our old house. The mini cones are so pretty.

Our holly bushes are usually stripped of berries before Christmas though

Ifoughthefight · 20/09/2024 21:30

I don't hate it but I don't have time for it. I buy craft packs galore as it is without many being even opened. More decorations will mean to me more tat that I have to declutter when my kids are not watching

Omg I hate it too- autumnal decor- wtf!!! I blame the likes of b&m and schmutter influencers like Stacy Solomon who make women think they need to obsess over this crap and putting biscuits in a glass jar, and label every bloody container in their fridge.

Do you realise how insulting you are being? Or are you just goading? You are showing your ignorance, and that you cannot think beyond your own ideas and 'taste'. We had exactly the same thread a few weeks ago. You are not saying anything new.
We are not all mindless land fill purchasers. We keep our ornaments from year to year, we like our homes and like to decorate them. Most of my decorations are natural.
Do you live in some soulless hole? I am sorry for you if you do. Can you think beyond B and M, and Stacy Solomon or is that your horizon?

You and your ilk think you are superior, but you are not, you show your ignorance and prejudice in every post.

The most anger I've ever seen over glass jars. Calm doon!

You would hate the autumn lights I bought today in Poundland, OP.

I like those
