Crying my way through Don McLean's The Grave and wondered what songs make you absolutely sob?
No particular emotional connection to the song either other than it was on a CD when I was younger, but the other songs on the album don't make me cry - it's just a genuinely heartbreaking song

Mike and the mechanics living years

When I was a child my mum used to listen to Joan Baez. I used to sob when she put the song Mary Hamilton on. I still remember the lyrics 'she put him in a tiny boat and cast him out to sea, he might sink or he might sing but he'll never come back to me'. Trauma.

“Ne me quitte pas” by Jacques Brel.

(English version translated as “If you go away,” covered by numerous artists, but nothing touches the original.)

ObieJoyful · 18/09/2024 20:31

Puff the Magic Dragon. I can’t sing it either.

It's Too Late by Carole King came on the car radio at a point when I thought my world and my marriage were imploding (they didn't I'm glad to say) and I cried so hard I had to pull over. The words were so incredibly spot on for that period in my life. It was over a decade ago and I still get a lump in my throat when I hear it now.
