Crying my way through Don McLean's The Grave and wondered what songs make you absolutely sob?
No particular emotional connection to the song either other than it was on a CD when I was younger, but the other songs on the album don't make me cry - it's just a genuinely heartbreaking song

You don't bring me flowers

Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town.

fills me with deep sadness that a man who was living with his injuries from fighting in Vietnam had the nightmare of seeing his wife getting on with her life while he lay in his bed, abandoned and alone.

This woman's work.

I can't really listen to it. It made me cry before I had children, but since having become a mum it just makes me even more sad when I hear it.

Love Kate bush though, she is a musical wizard.

The one Gary Barlow wrote for his wee one that sadly passed, can't for the life of me remember but that one is the worst for me. So beautiful though.

Starry night by don mclean.

squashedalmondcroissant · 18/09/2024 19:43

Another vote for Tears in Heaven, can't even think about that song without welling up.

Wires I didn't get at first but after my son was born not breathing and had to spend some time in special care, I definitely did.

There's a song called Stay Away by a band called Muna that never fails to make me cry. It's quite upbeat but if you listen to the lyrics, it's so sad. It's about loving someone so desperately but at the same time knowing they are bad for you - the internal struggle to ignore the empty promises and leave them for good.

Drivers licence - Lewis Capaldi

Probably because of a break up (my decision, because he stopped making an effort) a week after he finally passed his driving test
