So having had a really not great time on online dating...I've finally started to speak with someone I would like to impress. Ladies he sings, he bakes bread, he reads he's the main parent. I'm in heaven.
Id like to give him a book at our first date....he likes most genres...nothing like super seedy tho as he's quite wholesome...what can I give him that will melt his heart so I get to keep him forever?
Or at last so he looks back and thinks that was cool.
Help please x

Baking bread really isn't difficult! You could do it yourself.

True although I've never been fab at it

I'm sorry lovelies I feel sharing it is too outing! But I will maybe In a few months 😁 and I'll keep you updated.

The mind boggles with what people think is outing! 😂😂

Was it his unpublished autobiography? If not, then you can tell us. If it is, you have bigger problems than it being outing 😂

Outing? 🤣🤣 As if

Newnamesameoldlurker · 30/09/2024 16:14

Aw give her a break- if she's told a bunch of people IRL about the book then it could very well be outing! Delighted you came back and updated OP and that he is lovely and gave you a book! Let him keep trying to win you over- remember you're the prize!

Curious: did it last?

SirChenjins · 23/01/2026 08:25

Oh I remember this (slightly bonkers) thread! Also wondering if it lasted? Smile

iwfja · 23/01/2026 11:42

@Heybearu
How did it turn out in the end OP?

Leavesandthings · 23/01/2026 11:49

The Book Theif Marcus Zuzak
The Goldfinch (can't remember author!)
Perfume (to suss out if he's crazy)

Donna tartt wrote the goldfinch. Her earlier book, The Secret History, is also fantastic.

But you should pass him a book that you have read and loved! So you can talk about it. It's also a personal touch to pass on one of your books.

Don't worry too much about impressing him like a job interview though, like someone above said.

Hopefully you'll have a great date, have fun!

Leavesandthings · 23/01/2026 11:50

Oh haha old thread, whoops!

MapleOakPine · 23/01/2026 11:50

Heybearu · 23/01/2026 19:35

That's great OP! I was sceptical when you first started posting about this so I'm really pleased that it all turned out so well for you!

Ferro · 23/01/2026 20:04

And is the bread good??

Heybearu · 23/01/2026 20:43

The bread is immense! He makes amazing seeded loaves at the moment which I love, as well as incredible samosas! After finding a fair few very off-putting frogs I'm so glad he came along before I quit it all completely!

The Diary of Adrian Mole aged 13 3/4.

it sounds like you have the same attitude to dating.

Met an incredible man online, swoon. He makes bread & EVERYTHING!!!!! How do I melt his heart? I know I’ll pretend to be an intellectual & get him a very clever book.

I wonder if I should check wedding availability dates for next June?

I was going to say Adrian mole too!
it is the very best book. This fact sounds mental, and is potentially very outing but I have re-read this book every single year single year since I was 13 (I know I am eccentric) and genuinely, some paragraphs make me laugh out loud still. I am 40.

Is he bringing you something? Some home made bread at least. If not, it’s all a bit manic pixie dream girl which is a delightful way to live but believe me, the ick is about to hit when you realise he doesn’t actually see you as an actual 3 dimensional woman. Believe me, I spent my whole 20s living that way and now I am just too fat, angry and the pink hair doesn’t suit me anymore.

Not at all outing as I do the same.

I turned 13 the year after it was published and got it as a joke gift for my birthday. I have read it every year since and have read and re-read all of the sequels. Still kills me everytime!

I am confident that Adrian and Pandora are together. He wrote a cancer survival memoir with her help so finally got published, and she dialled back on the ambition and "boss bitch" thing with his help. I like to think that they still live at the Piggeries and create online content about their "Good Life" esque lifestyle to pay the bills, with Glen, William and Gracie visiting often.

ETA, just googled and actually I turned 13 six years afterwards, I always assumed it was brand new when I got it! So Adrian is now 57/58.

Heybearu · 24/01/2026 04:39

I think you're right, he's making online content in a very alan partridgey way. She's advertising collagen drinks and mineral make up, whilst actually using botox, fillers and chemical peels.
Loved Adrian, and also Bert!
