MN rules for life - shame edition

Over40Overdating · 14/09/2024 18:41

There have been so many bonkers threads lately where OPs have been shamed for what most people in real life would considered normal that I think some MNetters live in an alternate universe.

Shaming people for relatively normal things is off the charts right now.
I’ve got a list of things I now look out for on threads to play rules bingo - please add your MN bingo rules for life: shame edition!

  • if you drink alone or at home, you have a drinking problem
  • drinking whilst being a parent? JAIL
  • express an opinion or anger about violence against women and girls - you are a misandrist and a man hater cos NAMALT
  • Got a sex life that is not vanilla but harms no one? You should have more respect for yourself, you harlot
  • Like to eat food that isn’t green and in larger portions than matchbox size? You are ‘scoffing’ and ‘gorging’ on rubbish, piggy
  • Got a twatty partner who does things to drive you mad? Have you looked at yourself to see why you are causing this?
  • Need to go no contact with toxic family or parents? You only get one mother / father and should take any shit they throw at you because someone who has no experience of abuse or family dysfunction thinks you sound selfish and childish. And didn’t you know some people have dead parents and you are being SO disrespectful to them?
  • If you have an overbearing or interfering MIL you need to keep your mouth shut because you might be a MIL one day and how would you feel if your DIL talks about you this way?

What have I missed?

Also, how dare you even suggest that people can behave in a narcissistic manner; it's Sooooo overused.

Indeed @Proseccoh - also have you considered autism or dementia could be the cause, you ableist!

I'm going to give this one some thought...

  • as Darthvader or Henry Winkleman or Tony Blair or Doctor Who or Bagpuss said...
"I'll be back..." 🎃
CantConfessWontConfess · 14/09/2024 18:49

You use a toilet brush....just think of the germs!

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 14/09/2024 18:50

If your partner acts like a cunt and does nothing around the house, could he be depressed and not just an abusive arsehole.

If you have step kids you and all your family including your mum and dad who have no emotional connection/limited relationship with that child/ren must treat them EXACTLY like their biological family/grandkids. I'll be flamed for this one but I'll never get this.

Over40Overdating · 14/09/2024 18:50
  • You walked your dog on a lead past a child? Why are dog people ruining public spaces everywhere?
  • Dogs in pubs? JAIL FOREVER

Disagree with the OP on anything at all? You must be jealous.

OP: I have 10 children and am pregnant again.
Poster 1 : OMG are you nuts.
Poster 2: You are just jealous.

If you don't spend 3 weeks deep cleaning your holiday cottage before you check out (complete with photographic evidence) you deserve to lose your deposit and be named and shamed on their website

This also applies for an overnight stay.

Over40Overdating · 14/09/2024 18:52

@Lentilweaver yes and while you are at it #BEKIND OR ELSE

Some poor woman has just posted on another thread about her boyfriend disliking her having a couple of double G&Ts at home when he isn't there. The One Sherry at Christmas brigade are out in full force haha. Bet she wishes she'd asked her mates instead 😂

Newsenmum · 14/09/2024 18:53

You’re not allowed to go on a plane or have more than two children or you hate the environment.

If you’re a SAHM your husband will lose respect for you and leave you.

ladymalfoy45 · 14/09/2024 18:53

Anxiety or depression? CBT FOREVER or you're not trying to get better.

Sleepersausage · 14/09/2024 18:54

Have a nap while you're a parent? You must be on drugs

Over40Overdating · 14/09/2024 18:54

@RockyRogue1001 don’t forget that by staying in a holiday cottage you, personally, are responsible for the housing crisis in that area that has historically depended on tourism trade to support the local economy. And fuck off back to London while you’re at it, even if you’re not from there.

On the other hand, if you dare to work for a living, you are letting your child(ren) be brought up by strangers.

I know! As a fellow shift worker who likes a wine or two (ha) more then once a week 😱, by their reasoning I should be booking a fast pass to rehab pronto.

Over40Overdating · 14/09/2024 18:57

@Newsenmum you are MAD to be a SAHM, and must be out working a 9-5 as soon as the umbilical cord is cut.

At the very least think about taking in some ironing.

@queenofguineapigs well why even have children if you won’t raise them yourself? But still get out to work - that’s what evenings are for. Did you even do any planning before having these children?!

OP posts:
MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 14/09/2024 18:59

If you work (especially if you enjoy it)
Go on a holiday without your children
Let your children stay overnight with GPs before the age of 18

Then you should ask yourself why you even had children if you palm them off on others to raise

If you allow your child to walk to school, play our, go on sleepovers, have any kind of unsupervised independence

Then you are a safeguarding failure who should be reported to social services

Over40Overdating · 14/09/2024 18:59

@Hoglet70 @AccidentallyWesAnderson
this thread was definitely not inspired by that thread 👀

Having a DD who's into dressing up as a Disney princess, wearing a tiara and wearing makeup whilst playing, means you have FAILED miserably at parenting.

Having a DS who's into dressing up as a Disney princess, wearing a tiara and wearing makeup whilst playing, means you've NAILED it as a parent.

Bonus points if he wants to wear his princess dresses to school.

betterangels · 14/09/2024 19:01

Partners aren't ever just arseholes. They're autistic or depressed, and the woman must consider this at all times.

InfoSecInTheCity · 14/09/2024 19:02

Dare to be fat, well it's all your own bloody fault and you should starve yourself and exercise till you drop, once you're a suitable weight you'll be good enough to exist with the decent people, but don't forget your prior shame and let yourself get into such a state again.

Over40Overdating · 14/09/2024 19:03

@MinervaMcGonagallsCat the second you become a parent you must never leave them out of your sight until they are 18 years old, for any reason ever. Zero autonomy or self reliance skills should be given.

On the stroke of midnight on their 18th birthday you must then turf them out of your home to fend for themselves because someone else was sent down a mineshaft at 12 so why should your kids have it easy?
