MN rules for life - shame edition

Over40Overdating · 14/09/2024 18:41

There have been so many bonkers threads lately where OPs have been shamed for what most people in real life would considered normal that I think some MNetters live in an alternate universe.

Shaming people for relatively normal things is off the charts right now.
I’ve got a list of things I now look out for on threads to play rules bingo - please add your MN bingo rules for life: shame edition!

  • if you drink alone or at home, you have a drinking problem
  • drinking whilst being a parent? JAIL
  • express an opinion or anger about violence against women and girls - you are a misandrist and a man hater cos NAMALT
  • Got a sex life that is not vanilla but harms no one? You should have more respect for yourself, you harlot
  • Like to eat food that isn’t green and in larger portions than matchbox size? You are ‘scoffing’ and ‘gorging’ on rubbish, piggy
  • Got a twatty partner who does things to drive you mad? Have you looked at yourself to see why you are causing this?
  • Need to go no contact with toxic family or parents? You only get one mother / father and should take any shit they throw at you because someone who has no experience of abuse or family dysfunction thinks you sound selfish and childish. And didn’t you know some people have dead parents and you are being SO disrespectful to them?
  • If you have an overbearing or interfering MIL you need to keep your mouth shut because you might be a MIL one day and how would you feel if your DIL talks about you this way?

What have I missed?

You must buy all clothes from Sezane or Vinted. (Or both)

RockyRogue1001 · 14/09/2024 20:42

Newsenmum · 14/09/2024 20:30

You’re also not allowed to post in the mumsnetters without children board without someone with kids ALWAYS butting into a thread explaining it from a mum’s pov, no matter how many times the op has said they wand to hear from childfree people.

Same for the black mumsnetter's board, I believe

Over40Overdating · 14/09/2024 20:43

@Bandstander Poor people should live as miserable an existence as possible - it will inspire them to try harder.

STOP CALLING ME OUT. I AM TOO THIN SKINNED TO HAVE MY OWN THREAD USED AGAINST ME

If you are on UC, and manage to get a drink in Costa, then you are being paid too much. Any money left over after bills etc should be paid back.
I wish this was made up, but someone on MN actually said this to me

This is so silly.

Mumsnet is not a collective, it is not a hive mind. Replies on any particular thread are just from people who happen to be around on that day and see it and feel like answering. Mumsnet attracts users from all sectors of society and all over the world.

I note that on all sorts of social media, people who post (the OPs) only cling onto the negative comments. There can be 49 positive comments and 1 negative and suddenly that negative is "the reaction".

Everyone just needs to get a fucking grip and grow up. Seriously. None of it is real. Who CARES what "Mumsnet thinks". Care what your family and friends think, forget about anonymous people on a website!

I might need some help working out if this response is serious or in the vein of the thread…

Is it still just a syllable if you add a tinkly laugh?

Interesting question

Are you a flying monkey? 🐒

Be a parent with a child and want to use parent & child parking? How are you so ENTITLED. When IIIII had small children I had to fit ELEVEN of us and a week’s shopping on a pushbike after working a 30 hour shift and I never moaned!!

Money after bills?! Do you need help budgeting so you can submit a more accurate claim?!

(I am very sorry @XenoBitch the attitude to benefits on here is inhumane to the point of evil at times. A thread a while back advocated for pets to be forcibly removed and euthanised from anyone on benefits. I don’t think I’ve ever read anything so cold or evil on this site. There but for the grace of god go any of us)

I am glad to see you never gave the children any groceries to carry for you, because that would have robbed them of their childhood.

Everyone on disability benefits has somehow got them really easily (probably by lying), and they all go on three holidays a year and have massive cars, and WHY DO I BOTHER TO WORK?

Thighdentitycrisis · 14/09/2024 20:41

Very true. Also if you buy from Boden, Joules, Shein or Temu you should be burned at the stake.

XenoBitch · 14/09/2024 20:52

If you are on £200k and feeling the pinch, then you can quit your job and go on benefits because it is so easy, and you will be able to still go on several holidays a year and get a new Range Rover when you current one gets a scratch, because all people on benefits do that too.

BarbaraHoward · 14/09/2024 20:53

What did you say @Aroastdinnerisnotahumanright ?! Was it footwear related to go so quickly?

XenoBitch · 14/09/2024 20:54

They always have a FREE car! That is massive so they can cart about all the luggage they need to get to the airport for their 10th foreign holiday of the year.
They have this car because they once saw their GP about feeling low... they have been signed off work forever and get more in benefits than someone on £200k.

Newsenmum · 14/09/2024 20:55

Absolutely any question in Style and Beauty:

It doesn’t matter!!! It doesn’t matter what you look like/what’s in style!

Heaven forbid you want to look nice don’t use the word frumpy

Aroastdinnerisnotahumanright · 14/09/2024 20:55

@BarbaraHoward It's so odd my comment was blocked, I just named a few clothing brands Mumsnetters always moan about

Over40Overdating · 14/09/2024 20:55

@Intheoldendays
Those fit to work assessments are a breeze to fake - those people who get turned down or claim humiliation are just angry they got caught.

So random.

Intheoldendays · 14/09/2024 20:56

Several free cars if they pretend they have disabled kids too. Probably made up adhd that anyone can say they have and get millions. My neighbours cousin knew someone in the town near their village that did that, so it's definitely true....

Over40Overdating · 14/09/2024 20:58

@Aroastdinnerisnotahumanright did you envoke the name of JohnnyB.

Anyway who cares about clothes or beauty. I wash my face with carbolic soap once a week, rub olive oil on my face on birthdays and holy days and have been wearing the same clothes since I was 14. I am still the same size and bought quality that lasted. Head tilt

OP posts:
DutchCowgirl · 14/09/2024 20:59

Any bad behaviour in kids is caused by too much screen time and social media… (and the people who say this spend many hours a day on the internet themselves)

If you were smart and lucky enough to get married to one of the good guys, you can never say this because all man hate woman and namalt is never a good argument.

Every transperson is a fetishist (and probably a criminal as well) that wants to rob biological women of their private spaces.

Over40Overdating · 14/09/2024 21:00

@Intheoldendays AdHD is a fad! Silly grown women hitting peri and having the wheels fall off their brains are getting diagnosed to fit in with the trend. No one ever heard of adults getting diagnosed til better research on how it presents in adults was available. Just get a grip!

OP posts:
Ghostyghost · 14/09/2024 21:05

My 17 year old ... MN he's still a child ,
My 17 year old ... also MN he's practically an adult.

Op makes a thread first couple of posters reply with a stupid response. All other posts must follow in a simlar way.

Poster is it OK for 2 children to share a room? MN that's fine no problem.

Another poster : can 2 children share a room? MN .No that would be awful why did you have another child without a suitable home.

If your DH has coffee with a female colleague it’s time to get your ducks on row and consult a solicitor. If you allow him to have female friends you are a cool wife.

If you earn £3k a month and only have £50 left after paying your mortgage, bills and childcare how dare you complain - you earn more than the average. You can move to a cheaper part of the country. It’s that simple. Just move to a city up North where you can buy a house for practically pennies and be a short drive from beautiful countryside.
