Will they know I'm returning a different jumper?

Vanderpumpblues981 · 08/09/2024 15:22

I bought my brother a green jumper online from M&S, to be delivered to my local m&s food Hall. I had an email saying delivery would be delayed. This would mean it wouldn't be here in time for his birthday tomorrow so today I drove to the nearest M&S clothes store (an hour away!) And bought the same jumper in yellow (green not in stock).

I've just got home to an email saying the green jumper in now waiting to be collected! I much prefer the green jumper. If I give it to my brother and return the yellow one to the m&s food hall saying they sent the wrong colour will they know its actually one that I bought at the clothes store?

I can't return the yellow one to the food hall and I don't have time to drive all the way back the clothes store to return it (plus it seems like a massive waste of fuel!).

Many thanks if you got this far without falling asleep!

Surely any M&S would take back either jumper.

Indeed. No M & S any longer in Dorchester, Poole or Bournemouth Town centre - all three stores closed in the last few years.

Anisty · 08/09/2024 16:12

I thought with M &S you can return an unwanted item back to any branch anyway, so i don't expect they care what colour it is. Just say you have come to collect the green and can you return the yellow at the same time. Simple.

Oh OK, thankyou. I'll just try and return it there the . It says online that I can't return it to a foodhall.

You can only return to a food hall of there’s a clothing department attached and you then take it to a clothing till point. Just return it to store with the correct receipt / order number for a refund on the one you don’t require. If the receipt is lost and you are within the returns policy of 35 days you’ll be given a credit note if it’s beyond the 35 days return policy it’s down to the store if it’s gone into sale and no longer available then unfortunately there’s nothing they can do.

I am sure there is a way to return the unwanted jumper without lying. Can you phone or message the customer services and ask?

Exactly 👍🏼

Also OP, why would you post about proposing to lie to M&S? Why would you consider doing so?

NoSquirrels · 08/09/2024 16:15

You cared enough to drive for 2 hours to buy it, so presumably if you want a refund you’ll care enough to drive to return it sometime in the next 28 days? This time you can plan some other errands too.

Does yellow suit your dh, op?

Justsayit123 · 08/09/2024 16:16

You can’t take in store orders back to a food hall who do only online orders. Yabu.

They did a 2 hour trip to buy it though

Yeh it's a right faff, a 2 hour round trip for one jumper.

Could you return it to the store within the 28 day return period and take the opportunity to buy a few Christmas bits while you're there. Then it won't be such a wasted journey because you'll at least come away with a few gifts for friends and family at the same time.

I'd say your Christmas present to your brother is sorted.

I was going to say the same. Just bung in the cupboard for now, Christmas will come around quickly. Just don't forget to tick your brother off your Christmas list now😃

They're all unique bar codes so it won't work, but I don't understand why you can't just return it

M&S have sent me black velvet cord leggings when I ordered white jeans - it is possible to be sent entirely the wrong thing by M&S and have to return to store. Worst case scenario there @Vanderpumpblues981 is you'll collect the green one and at the same time, have the yellow one with the receipt (either printed or on your Sparks app) and you can ask can you return the yellow one there and then and if they say no, you're no worse off than you are right now. If you don't ask, you'll not know.

It’s an hour each way. A two hour round trip. I know it’s a faff, op, but surely you can face another visit sometime in the next 35 days?

A two hour round trip is an hour there and an hour back, in my book! Therefore = 2 hours in total.

BirthdayRainbow · 08/09/2024 16:26

Just take the one you don't want back to the nearest store...

Rhoumblestiilliness · 08/09/2024 16:28

Just ask for a return on the jumper you don’t want. You have every right to do just that.

Werweisswohin · 08/09/2024 16:30

Just tell the truth.
I ordered a green jumper. There was a delay in delivery so bought yellow instead. Green has now arrived and we much prefer the green one, so could we please return the yellow one?

Sparsely · 08/09/2024 16:30

Just give him the yellow one and save yourself 2 hours. He'll never know the green one was nicer..

Are you likely to be going near a store in 35 days
