Will they know I'm returning a different jumper?

I bought my brother a green jumper online from M&S, to be delivered to my local m&s food Hall. I had an email saying delivery would be delayed. This would mean it wouldn't be here in time for his birthday tomorrow so today I drove to the nearest M&S clothes store (an hour away!) And bought the same jumper in yellow (green not in stock).

I've just got home to an email saying the green jumper in now waiting to be collected! I much prefer the green jumper. If I give it to my brother and return the yellow one to the m&s food hall saying they sent the wrong colour will they know its actually one that I bought at the clothes store?

I can't return the yellow one to the food hall and I don't have time to drive all the way back the clothes store to return it (plus it seems like a massive waste of fuel!).

Yeh that was my plan, then to write on the delivery note that the wrong colour was sent (which has actually happened to me before).

I think I'll just do it. I can't imagine the person in the warehouse will be bothered to investigate it when it's the same jumper/prive being returned, just a different colour.

Why don’t you take it back to the food hall and if they won’t take it, ask how you can return it.

I bought a coat from next for DH as a gift, but he also bought it in the sale before his bday when I was going to give him it. I didn’t know which was which and took the sale one back with my original receipt, and they were able to tell it was the one he’d bought on his account at a reduced price. Not sure if there was a sticker barcode elsewhere, as we’d both bought online and I was returning to store, but the did know.

They're all unique bar codes so it won't work, but I don't understand why you can't just return it

Because I can't be bothered to drive 2 hours to return it to store. According to the website there's no other way to return it.

Why not give him both? It would save spending more on fuel and your time to return it and brother benefits. Win win.

Won’t you, or someone you know (well enough to do you a favour!) be going somewhere with a proper M&S within the next 35 days? No need to panic! As pp have said, all details will be found in the barcode, which they always scan to make sure the receipt and the item match!

Don't collect it. If you don't collect it they send it back to the warehouse and issue a refund.

Can you just return it to a m&s in the next 30 days?

I think the one she has to collect is the colour she wants. She doesn’t want the one she bought as a second best choice.

You have 28 days to return in. I’m trying to figure out what location in 2 hours from an m and s. The clothes store is everywhere!

Take both to your db, he may like yellow one better?

Then presumably the yellow one is an acceptable choice. Just don't collect the other one or return it

If you return the yellow one and pretend they sent the wrong colour there's a reasonable chance they won't accept the refund, and you'll be a jumper down plus the money

Your options are:
Give your brother the yellow jumper
Return the yellow jumper to an M&S store at some point within the next 28days
Give him the green and keep the yellow
